Sumer smiled and nodded. He scented the air, with all the exotic odors of this new home in the forest. Because of his lack of speech, he had had time to hone his other senses. He knew his friends by scent rather than name. You need to call out names, but you don't need to call out scents. He easily found the trail, and followed it with his tail in the air. Then the neophtye arrived at the tree, sniffing. He jumped on the bark of the tree, sniffing... With a flick of his ears and a twitch of his whiskers, he produced the rabbit from its place, and brought it triumphantly back to Danny's feet.

Danny nodded proudly. The pup had nothing wrong with his sense of smell. The rabbit was quite amusing, a missing leg, bites out of it and bits of bark stuck in its fur. "Good" Danny began, looking around. He scented the air, everything coming back clearly. Perfect, there was a mouse a while to the right. "Now for something harder, try finding the nearest mouse"

Sumer dropped down, lowering himself. He crept foward, scenting the air. He could detect the mouse. In the leaves he thought. He prowled foward, sniffing the ground. But he wasn't quiet enough-- the mouse heard his approach. In a flash, the rodent scrambled into a sprint, and shot across the leaves, only to disappear-- once again-- into the foliage. Irritated at losing his prey, Sumer furrowed his brow.

Danny stealthily crept up beside Sumer. "A prey animals have sharp senses" Awww, he couldn't ask the pup what he did wrong. Ooh crud. "Feel the ground beneath your paws, does it shift and came a noise?" Just for the fun of it, Danny dug his claws into the sound, making a faint noise. "Prey can hear that noise"

(lol, Danny has to figure it out XD)
Sumer tilted his head to one side. He wasn't even sure what he had done wrong himself-- then again, he hadn't even known what to do. Curse my handicap... He did as he was told, walking forward a few steps, and then stopping, and walking forward a few more steps, and then stopping again. Each time, he tried to get his pawsteps even closer to complete silence.

((Ooc: O.o)) Danny watched the pup. "Always look out for things that make a noise, like dry leaves" He cautioned, enjoying himself a little. The pup could turn out to become a really good warrior. "Remember where things are so your back legs don't catch on stuff and make a noise"

Sumer smiled and nodded, gradually becoming more quiet with each step. Soon, it was if he were flying across the ground. He grew wary of the leaves that blew across the forest floor, and that seemed to help with his approach. Soon, he felt ready to try to track again.

Sensing that the pup wouldn't get better just practising on his own anymore, Danny praised the pup. Fast learner, it made up for the lack of words. "Now, if you think you're ready to go for prey again?" He left it open, thinking Sumer would know what he was asking. Perhaps he'd go for the mouse again, or try his luck with slightly larger prey.

Sumer straightened himself and nodded. Raising his muzzle to the air, he caught the scent of hare on the breeze. Slowly, Sumer crept forward, this time completely silent. It was nearby. He could picture the prey... And then he stopped, frozen to the earth. The rabbit was just beyond the dead log in front of him. In one fluid motion, Sumer launched himself over the log in one bound, landing on top of the hare with fangs flashing. He dug his teeth into the hare's back, and soon had his very first kill in his jaws. It felt great.

If Danny was human he would have clapped. But the tail-wag worked just as well. He panted happily, once more walking up to the adolescent pup. "Thats great, you'll be a warrior yet" Danny grinned, looking aprovingly at the hare. He always thought of hares as faster and leaner, so the pup had done good catching that prey.

The young wolf beamed, apparently very pleased. He wanted to yell "thank you for showing me!", but he was unable to do so. So, instead, he smiled and kindly licked the side of Danny's face. He then turned back to his hare, wagging his tail. I'll bring it back to my brother... he'll be proud!

Danny laughed when the pup licked him. It was positively adorable, he couldn't resist laughing. Who hadn't taught Sumer? He'd learnt so quickly that no one could have tried to teach the pup. He was about to ask what the pup was going to do with it before stopping. Of course he couldn't answer.

Sumer was too pleased with his catch to realize that Danny was only just stopping himself from reminding Sumer of his disability. He pawed at the hare, and looked up at Danny. Well, Euphrates won't mind if it's only half... He nudged the hare in front of Danny's paws, and then stepped back, smiling. He wanted Danny to have it.

Danny felt uncomfortable with the hare in front of him. It was Sumer's first kill, he supposed he had helped... But still. He decided to take a leg and give it back because of the rabbit leg he'd passed to Sumer earlier. It was fair, and kept him and probably the pup happy. Danny tore off a leg, the joint dangling from his powerful jaws. He pushed it back towards the pup.

The sandy neophyte nodded in satisfaction in that Danny accepted at least some of the offering. The rest is for my brother he thought. The day had been good to him... he had accomplished something. I can hunt he thought happily.
