And he stepped upon the forest floor, stained crimson from the lost ones. His head hung low, and the world held it's breath, as if this was the moment of truth. His golden mane, crafted of the suns, was dulling and torn. He could not bear the sight of his world. The war she had wrought upon them...it had destroyed it all.
He himself was crafted of golden sunlight. He himself was crafted of the stars. He had feared what creating them could do...he had feared it for a century. And now, as his amber pools shed divine tears, he looked up into the eyes of the forest. In one last, shuttering breath, he accepted his fate.
You righteous son of a cat!
He stepped away from the sunlight, crused into the shadows. His people, the souls of his own making, had forgotten him. And if that is what was best....if that was what they wanted, he would disappear.
She couldn't do them any harm dead...no....so neither could he.
And the very breath of life itself ceased to exist.
Her form was tattered and burnt, clumps of bloodied fur missing and falling from her rapidly. Colorless eyes, doused in pain and sorrow. She fell to the ground, breathing labored and slowing. She clung to her precious bundle, letting out a muffled, helpless wail. I promised him! He's not dying! "MEHHHLPP!!!"

Light picked his way through the undergrowth. His mind had became a tangled mess of confusion over the past few days. The smell of Night in his den made him almost nausious, and his eyes frequently stung with tears. He breathed in the fresh air, grateful to be away. His smile faded quickley.
The burn of burning fur, ash, and blood washed over him, carried on the wind. He ran foreward, toward it, ignoring his instincts screaming for him to turn away. But something drew him there. To that small patch of shadow. That's when he saw them. The brute and fae, looking quite maliciously twisted by ashen fur and dried blood. The expressions on the fae's face were twisted with pain. Again, his stupid instincts told him to go home. But he stayed.
His voice was barely above a whisper. "Who are you?"

She stared at him blankly, a slow, uncertain smile creeping onto her maw. "Hello, Light. I see you're still as noble as ever..." she rasped, setting her dearest pup at his paws. She hesitated, tears in her eyes and she whispered, "He called me Lucky. Said that whenever I was there...." she paused, drawing in air deeply. "...that everything was okay. His name....His name is Crow....take him to Holly, Light." she breathed. Her eyes clouded over, like grey storm clouds. And she was gone.

Light's eyes grew wide. "Wh-" and she was gone. He blinked several times until he was sure of his conciousness. A fluttering leaf at his paws startled him, and he jumped as if something was shooting at his paws. He picked up the pup gently and walked - more like power walked - through the forest, back to camp.

(can we just continue here and say we're back at camp? XD )
The youngster yawned, eyes opening to behold a new scenery. "Momma?" He whimpered, grey eyes wide with panic. "Momma!" The young pup closed his eyes, hoping it was just another nightmare. He hated them...they always felt so real! After Clover and his father died...and after the accident...the journey.... he hated be away from her. Even while sleeping. Except...he wasn't asleep. "Where is she?!"
Sharpie emerged from the warrior's den, rounding up a patrol. He spotted Light entering the camp and padded over. His heart stopped. That scent...[\i] And that pup....that pup's eyes.... It's fur was raven-colored...and it's eyes the colorless grey of storm clouds. But it couldn't be her...

Holly followed quickly out of the nursery. Her pups stumbled behind, but seeing the pup, she turned to them. "Go back to Tessita and her pups." Okashii and Kinomi obeyed. "Who is that?"
Tisana trotted out of her den. Light smiled. "Of course." he teased while she sniffed over the pup. Light trotted to Sharpie. "Sharpie, do you know who's pup that is?"

Sharpie backed away slowly. He was speechless. The pup had yet to turn and look at Holly,...but when it did... "I..." he began, unable to continue. "I don't believe this....I...I can't..." He closed his eyes, inhaling deeply. There it was. Her scent was there, thick and heavy. But SHE wasn't there anymore... "It's Clove's."

Light turned at just the right angle when the pups eyes were angled toward Holly. She made a choking noise and burrowed her nose into Sharpie's shoulder. She looked up again, her eyes taking a certain edge. They narrowed.
She took a strong step toward Light. "Give me the pup."
Light was shocked by her authority. She took the pup from him and walked back over to Sharpie. "Our little fae is gone, but I know she would want the best." She looked at Light. "I will take the pup to Tessita. She'll have enough room. He will not know of his mother. He will think of himself as Tessita's son. But of course, only if Sharpie approves."
She glanced at her mate. "It's for the best. Clove's not coming back, and we can't deny that. We'll save him sorrow and years of wondering. Please choose wisely."

"No, no, no!" The pup squealed, squirming. "My momma's Clove, stupid!" He growled, eyes glaring at Holly. "And you're not changing that!"
Sharpie glanced at Holly with dismay. "He's around four moons, I'd say. I think it's....it's too late for that." He brushed his fur against Holly's in comfort. "What...What's your name, son?" He rasped.
"Crow! My name is Crow! I have a sister, too...her name's Clover but..." the young pup hesitated, sadness entering his eyes. "She's not here anymore.

Holly snorted. "My mistake." She dropped the pup, not as gently as she should. Her eyes watered again.

"Oof! You know what, Missy? I think you have an attitude problem! You're like my Mom...Dad said she used to be real moody, but she lightened up after a while. Maybe you just need to find the light like Momma did...don't you love anybody, Missy?" Crow woofed, innocent as ever.
Sharpie looked on, eyes lost in far away memories.

Holly gulped. "I... I..." she couldn't say anything. The lump in her throat had grown tighter and bigger. A stupid tear escaped her eye."

Crow waited patiently for her to answer, cleaning off his paws as he did so. After a while, Sharpie rasped. "Can...can we bury her?"

Holly's voice became squeeky. "WHAT!?" she screeched.

"I want to say goodbye, Holly. We're not just going to leave her out there!" Sharpie sighed.
