The world was quiet here.
The soft rustles on the underbrush were far away, mere blurs of green under the jagged teeth of the rockface. A young wolf climbed up the side, pulling herself onto the flat stones with practiced ease. A smile was on her maw, and a cheery light danced in her eyes. Tonight, the world was aglow.
Her warm pads moved soundlessly over the cool rock beneath them. She stood, a majesty against the inky cloak of night, and took in the scene before her.
The skies were alive with dancing, shimmering light. It was as if someone had taken the whole of the Twilight lake, and shot it up into the sky. The backdrop was the blackest of black, like the color of the deepest sleeps. The eternally shimmering, silver flames shone down upon the forest.
A small gasp emitted from her chest, eyes wide with awe and wonder. Now it was clear why Crow had asked her to come here tonight. He knew she loved the skies. He'd told her he'd meet her after training. He wouldn't be long...
The meteors streaks through the sky, raining down and smearing the aurora with their toxic fires. The forest was silent, as was the beauty above. It was then that every living creature paused to hold their breath, paused to hail the royalty they were witnessing.
For no words could quite capture this perfect calm that had appeared in the midst of the raging storms.
Footsteps echoed behind her, and her smile widened greatly.
"Crow!" She yipped with delight, suddenly ecstatic. "I cannot believe I was so lucky to fall in love with a wolf like you!" She giggled softly.
Silence.
More footsteps.
"Crow? I think you've suprised me enough for one night...."
Her harid suddenly stood on end, and panic shot through her. The footsteps came to a pause just behind her, and a split second too late, she realized that this was not the wolf she loved. Not Crow.
But an enemy, bound to hurt or kill her.
"Suprise suprise, Princess!" came the gutteral snarl, shredding the painted angels above. Saskia turned slowly to face her captor, eyes wide with shock and panic.
"No....no....not YOU!" She suddenly screamed, tears pooling in her eyes. "Please....don't kill me! Let me go...please, I'm begging you..."
"Beggars? They never did suit the pack well...your parents were never up to standards, either. I take no shame in slaying you here, whelp!"
A dark wolf came up behind Saskia's foe, snarling and spitting profously. "You get your filthy paws off of her!"
"CROW NO! GO TO LIGHT! TELL HIM THAT---"
Black claws slit her throat, the words forever ripped from her.
The white blur turned and fled, a mad cackling erupting from the cruel femmora. "Such a beautiful night, eh? Don't worry, Crow, I've no quarrel with you. It was about time the traitor had died. But watch yourself ;; no matter where you move, the packs will never escape me!" She vanished into the night.
The meteors seemed less like dancing flames, and more like burning tears in the night. Crow dragged himself over to her lifeless form, howling in agony. "NOO!!! YOU TOLD ME IT WOULD BE SAFE WITH THE YOZORANS DAMMNIT! AND NOW SHE'S DEAD! AND GONE! AND I SWEAR I'LL NEVER REST UNTIL YOU'RE DEAD, YOU FUCKING BITCH!" He screamed, tears pouring from him.
"I'll never, stop, love," he whispered in her ear. "I'll burn her."
He rested with Saskia the entire night, eyes never closing, but staring at her horrified, tormented face. He hadn't the slightest clue what that fae wanted, or who she was, but Saskia had known. She'd thought the attacked had died already. Bile rose in his throat as he realized his options.
Letting the last tears flow out, he buried his nos ein her sweet fur once more, and whispered, "I love you, Saskia." He ripped himself away from her and tore into the woods, water still gushing from his swollen eyes. It took everything in him not to look back at her body, now illuminated with the rising sun.
And the world was quiet once more.
