Avalanche leaped onto a small boulder. The massive brute sniffed the air, hoping to catch a scent of his son. Instead, nothing came. He could smell plenty of prey, a few loners, and that was it. He sighed and jumped down from the boulder and laid next to it. Avalanche was tired. He couldn't sleep without finding his son. He didn't want to give up neither. It's useless. Your son is dead. Give it up already.

Dagfinn sniffed the air for a scent, hoping to find some of prey.
Indeed, he could smell plenty!
His heart and body already looking forward to the chase, he proceeded to run towards the scents. Running past a boulder, he suddenly stopped. "Avalanche!" He greeted warmly. "Trying to find some prey, too?"
He guessed the wolf was still trying to find his dead son, but of course he didn't mention this. Instead he waited for the wolf's response.

"No, I'm looking for someone else. But I guess this is also a good chance to explore the territory and go on a hunting patrol." Avalanche yawned and stood up, shaking snow from his pelt. He caught the scent of a rabbit and decided to go after it. My son was always the best a hunting rabbits... He shook his head and continued on.

"Good idea!" Dagfinn exclaimed happily, glad he wouldn't have to go into that sad topic.
Following his lead, Dagfinn asked, "Can I come? I don't really have anything else to do, anyway."

"Sure. It would be nice to have some company." Avalanche found the rabbit digging a hole out of its nest. He studied the rabbit and his surroundings carefully. What can I use around here to help me? There was a rock near the hole he could use to block the hole into the rabbit's nest. He would have to act fast, though.

"Alot of wolves do seem to prefer company." Dagfinn agreed.
Looking curiously at the rabbit, he commented, "I feel sorry for the rabbit. Pretty soon, It's going to be caught by either you or me, and eaten soon after. It's not a very good way to live, don't you think?"
Looking back at Avalanche, he expected him to look back strangely at him, maybe even turn away from him. Comment on it in a negative way, perhaps. Everyone else in the pack did, anyway. No one really appreciated Dagfinn's strange perspective on things. Why should Avalanche be any different?
'Although, there may be a chance he might actually accept me for a change..." he pondered thoughtfully. Dagfinn had never NOT thought optimistically, EVER. It came in handy alot, too.

Avalanche shrugged. "It's the circle of life I guess. You can't live forever." He ran over to the rock and pushed it to block the hole just before the rabbit jumped in. He chased after it through the forest trying to trip it as it ran. "What?" Avalanche stopped as the rabbit disappeared down another hole. "Looks like that one will get to see another day."

"True." Wow. Dagfinn decided he liked Avalanche.
He watched silently as he chased the rabbit through the forest, then losing it at the rabbit hole.
"Maybe two."
Suddenly, the rabbit jumped out of the hole again. Looking at it in astonishment, Dagfinn decided maybe it was his turn to chase the fluffy creature, and he did so.
Fortunately, he caught it, and swiftly killed it soon after. Walking over to Avalanche, he said, "Well, since it isn't a hunting patrol, do you want to eat it now?"

"You can have it. I'm not that hungry anyway. Just wanted to get my mind off some things." Avalanche pricked his ears and listened to any tiny sounds with great curiosity. A hawk flew over head, the distant howl of another wolf's howl could be heard, and that seemed to be it. No sign that his son was coming home. All I have to do is wait.

Dagfinn shrugged. "Alright, then. Suit yourself."
Sitting down to the rabbit, he suddenly felt as if he couldn't eat it, as if he really belived the stuff about animals dying a short life, he couldn't help it, even though he knew someone else would eat it if he didn't.
"You know what." NOW he felt sick. "Forget about eating the rabbit, I'm not really hungry anyway." Pulling himself up and heading in the direction towards camp, he tossed over his shoulder, "I'm heading back. Someone else will probably want to eat the rabbit more than me. Do you want to continue getting your mind off things, or are you ready to come back?"
He actually hoped Avalanche would come. Dagfinn REALLY didn't want to be alone right now, for some STRANGE REASON....

Avalanche picked up the rabbit. "I'll come too. Everyone is probably wondering where we are." He ran ahead of Dagfinn and smiled for the first time since his son went missing. "Maybe we should tell everyone about this hunting spot. It seems pretty nice to me to catch lots of food." He thought for a moment. "Do you want to race to camp?"

Dagfinn seemed brighten up at the prospect of having company on the way back, despite the effort to remain calm. Anyone could see the new look on his face now.
Ah well. I was always bad at controlling emotions. Dagfinn thought with indifference.
He didn't miss the smile. Staring at him, he almost missed the next thing he said.
"Ya, alright." Dagfinn shrugged, just catching himself in time.
"Do you want to race back to camp?"
"Definitely!" He was wondering whether he'd get a chance to stretch his muscles.
Already running ahead, he could feel the relaxing wind on his face, even this early in the race.

Avalanche chased after him. He liked the feel of the wind blowing through his fur. It made him feel free from all worries and stress. But no he was in a pack. He had to catch food for the elders. He had to patrol the borders continuously. A warrior hardly got any rest. He looked back at the mountains hardly seen in the distance. Is that why Axle ran away?

((Who's Axle? *curious*))
Dagfinn, still racing, noticed that Avalanche was looking at the mountains.
Hmm...wonder why. He thought. Maybe it's because his family there, or maybe he's thinking of going there someday, OR... His head buzzed worridly with the thought. Maybe going to abandon the clan! Dagfinn knew it was stupid to think such a thing, but hey. There WAS always a possibility. He DID have enough sense not to say it outloud, however.

((His son))
Avalanche turned back around and ran ahead of Dagfinn. "Come on, slow poke. You don't want to lose to me. I'm acting a little slow right now, so it'd be weird if I was to win." He had a friendly smile on his face.
