Coldfire felt Luin beside him and it was comforting, perhaps the most comforting thing he'd felt since the day of his family's death. Coldfire rested his head against the ground and closed his eyes. A soft, contented sigh escaped the large brute. A slight shudder passed through his bulk and within moments he was still, eyes closed. The sound of his heartbeat faded and the brute grew still and silent, growing cold and stiff.

Luin now was in tears, hearing the fading of Coldfire's heartbeat. The fae burried her head in his fur, salty drops soaking into the spilled blood. This was the end of it. After all the waiting she had endured, fate had brought her here to be with her love at his death once again. Luin's now heart felt sore. A piece of it had been torn away from her. We'll stay forever this way you are safe in my heart and my heart will go on and on

Lithium was watching and stalked from the undergrowth, cold laughter shattering the mournful silence of the night. "He wasn't much of an opponent" Lithium drawled. "He was more fun to toy with when he was insane. Now he was just a softened fool who died knowing he didn't have a chance. Hellfire will enjoy having him among them. Someday when I die of old age I'll get to toy with him again, oh that will be fun." Her voice was cold and alight with cruel delight as she looked upon Coldfire's dead body, Luin crying beside it.

That was when Luin raised her head and stood. She turned herself toward Lithium and growled. How dare that fae mock Coldfire, after all that she had done to Coldfire and his life! The tears were nearly dry upon Luin's face, and she bore the blood of her lover on her fur. Lithium was still wounded from battle, but Luin was in perfect condition to fight. She also had every right to battle Lithium in vengence of Coldfire and his pack.
Luin launched herself at the dark fae, and ripped at her neck with a hated passion. Oh Lithium would go to Hellfire alright, but not of old age.

Fangs ripped at Lithium's throat but the black fae managed to kick Luin away before too much damage ahd been added to her already imperfect health. Standing up once more Lithium's lips curled in a sneer. "Well well did that little rabid dog manage to trick you into falling for him? How unfortunate. That fool probably didn't even know what he had done. Oh well. I'll be sure to pass along the message in Hellfire." Lithium leapt forward, sinking her fangs into Luin's throat.

Luin snarled and barred her fangs at Lithium's words. When the fae bit into her throat, she scratched her claws deeply into her opponent's sensitive and wounded underbelly, tearing even more flesh from it. With that Luin managed to free herself from Lithium's grip, and said, "Coldfire did not trick me. Love is for the true-hearted!" And sank her fangs into the dark fae's side, her claws pushing in further and further.

Lithium tore herself free of Luin's grip and laughed. It was a cold, cruel sound. "Ha! You think that brute was able to love? That's hilarious. Go find his victims when you die or find their families. They'll tell you a different story. He was nothing more then a good for nothing rabid wolf, driven mad by his own rage." Lithium turned and fled. This time she didn't turn back. She would savor her victory over Coldfire while she was still alive. No fae would kill her.
On the side of the lake, Coldfire's body lay quiet and cooling fast. Standing beside it, invisible to all appeared Coldfire's soul, moonlight filtering through his body. His topaz eyes remained flaming and bright, body healthy and strong. He was visible to only Luin, standing like a silent guardian next to the body that had held him to the earth.

Luin sighed as Lithium ran off. "Coward," she muttered. "Can't fight to the death." That was when she turned around and saw a shining form beside Coldfire's body, his spirit. The fae's eyes became a little wider, but then she grinned slightly. Coldfire looked peaceful, and his wounds and scars were gone. He was as handsome as the day she had met him.

Coldfire turned his head to look at the moon, its cold light flithering through his spirit form. His head turned back and he let out an eerie, unearthly howl. His final song. His heartsong. The tone was unearthly, ringing through the night though only for Luin to hear. Turning, Coldfire padded toward the lake beside which he had died. His paws danced across the surface of the water as though it were no different then land. When he reached the center, his form disappeared like mist chased away by a rising sun.

Luin felt Coldfire's howl run over her and everything like water. As his soul went over the lake it seemed to be brighter and more brilliant. He wouldn't burn in Hellfire, but roam freely in the Realm of Lupus. The fae then turned her head to the stars and the moon and howled in return to him, the only wolf besides her family who had ever treated her more than a packmate. The howl raced through all the Loner Territories, even if it were just a light note in the wind, sending out the heart of a loner who was in mourning. Then she looked back at the body, but found that it had disappeared. All that remained was the small pool of blood on the snow, part of which remained on her fur. Luin walked into Twilight Lake, going to where she could not feel the muddy bottom anymore, and let the blood run off of her. It didn't take long, seeing how the liquid was still fresh. Soon she emerged once more, and shook the water from her fur. The sun rose about the nearby mountains, warming her. That was when Luin realized that a baptism had occured to her while in the water. Coldfire's physical form was gone, but his spirit would be near to her always. This was her sunset, and sunrise. Luin wouldn't have to wait for him any longer. Coldfire was there, in her heart.
