{Miserable} At <Best> (Kiba/Owen)

Owen's gaze softened, but he still remained tense. "Kiba...we're so young. Nobody's noticed anything yet. We have so much time left to decide where our paws lead us..." He replied softly.

Kiba's face fell. "Oh. Y-yeah. You're right..." she stammered. "A whole life. We s-shouldn't make decisions now..."

Owen's eyes narrowed slightly. "And NOW what's bothering you?" he woofed, not unkindly. His heart was heavy in his chest, threatening to drag him down into oblivion. He wasn't sure he oculd take it if Kiba rejected him...
again.

Kiba stammered for words. "I... You make it sound like you don't want to be my friend." She regretted the words as soon as they came out. She hadn't really been thinking that... she had thought worse.

Owen's eyes widened slightly, and he gave her a worried look. "I don't think that's what's worrying you, Kiba. You aren't the greatest liar, you know!" He smiled slightly.

Kiba sighed and suddenly blushed a bright red under her patchy fur. "N-nothing. It's stupid." she stammered.

"Kiba....nothing you say has ever been stupid," he woofed, eyes flickering with amusement. "Well, except that time you sat on the pinecone!"

Kiba smiled. "Maybe I don't want to tell you. You'd laugh. Alot."

"Oh, you can predict the future now, can you?" He rolled his eyes. "I promise you I won't laugh!"

Kiba pulled up a half-smile. "Swear?" Her back was turned to him so he couldn't see her twitchy eyes. She was very nervous.

"Yes, Kiba...now what is it that's stuck on your mind?" He woofed, voice full of concern now. Was something wrong? Was she alright?

[mudfang]

Kiba grunted. "Must I tell you?"

She glanced around at him. "Fine, fine." She looked at him now and sighed. "I... I don't want to be your friend, Owen..." She couldn't say the last bit of what she was planning.

Owen's heart plummeted, eyes narrowed and hardened. "Then what the hell do you think you're doing here?! If you didn't want to be my friend, Kiba, then stop all of your pretending! That's all you do...lie, hurt, kill. Well I hope to Lupus I'm forgiven for falling for the devil herself!" He snapped, turning and fading into the brush.

Kiba felt tears welling up in her eyes. "YOU DIDN'T LET ME FINISH!" she shouted after him. "OWEN!" She sat down, staring at her paws. "I think I'm in love with you." she whispered.

But the young brute didn't hear her words;; just kept on running. He shook himself roughly, head low to the ground. He'd been an idiot;; he'd let her catch him at a vulnerable spot when he'd been missing Seren....
"Oh, Seren...are you watching this, sister? Do you see how pathetic I've become...how I've dragged our name through the dirt? What would say if you were here...."
I'd say get your furry ass back there and tell her how you feel, regardless of anything else.
He groaned inwardly. Seren had apparently picked this time of the many occasions he'd tried to contact her to finally respond. He stood obediently and stalked back to the meeting place. He peered through the fronds, wondering if she was still there.
