Fleeing the Past (Sunblaze/Thite)

The steady beat of the diamonds of rainwater outside the den lulled Sunblaze further into sleep until she could be mistaken for a dead wolf. For the first time since the fight with Ronin, Sun's sleep was dreamless. No spirits or other beasts of the nightmares dared to infiltrate her subconcious this night. She felt safe with Thite, like a newborn beside its mother. It was nice.

Sunblaze woke before sunrise. A light rain was still falling. Slipping away from Thite, Sunblaze padded out of the den to hunt, heading toward the meadow where Thite had found her the night before. She needed to hunt but the rain would soon wash away her scent.

[Destiny]

Thite slept soundly.Not a dreamless sleep though.For he dreamed of Sunblaze through the night.Of the life they could have together one day.If they stood a chance against the world. The odds were not as good as they could be.Yet the brute was sure.If they really tried.That they could make it.Before sunrise came Thite felt Sunblaze slip away from him.The femme was probably going hunting.Sunblaze had looked rather skinny and starved last night.Unlike himself.The rythemic beating of the rain drummed him back to sleep.

When Thite's eyes opened again it was minutes to sunrise.The brute let out a long yawn then stretched his muscles.Carefully he padded from the den.The rain had stopped now.But a mist still hung in the air.Sprinkling his form with crystals of water.Thite could no longer scent her but the brute assumed she was gone towards the meadow where they had been the night before.Deciding to let her hunt by herself he padded off in a different direction.

Thite paused when he reached a small clearing.A stream ran through it.This place.It was so familier.Then he remembered.This was where he had met Sunblaze.Not wanting to taint the air with blood the brute headed back.A small baby rabbit tumbled into his paws.Thite noticed it's mother a little ways off.the brute sighed.He did not have the heart to kill them.Carefully he pushed the little bunny towards its mother.After the small group hopped off he continued back towards the den.A partridge stumbled into his path and he killed it quite easily.

Finally the brute returned to the den.When he had finished eating the bird he disposed of the bones.Carefully spreading the feathers across the den he returned to the outside and sat.watching the sky.Any second now.

Sunblaze chased down a young doe and quickly killed it and feasted, savoring the flavor the meat and the energy buzz it gave her. For once her belly was full and Sun sat licking her jaws after the meal. Her heart leapt when she looked around and breathed in. It was here somewhere. Rising to her paws, Sunblaze started walking, sniffing here and there. At last she found it. The den where she, Serra and Faith had been for their first moons of life. Sunblaze sat near the entrance and looked around. That snowy night, she and Serra had played in the snow under Faith's careful watch. Sunblaze has disgarded Ronin as her father and gone off on her first hunt. She had literally run into Thite that night.

So much had changed since then. So many battles and killings had been seen in Sunblaze's eyes. It made her sad to think that they had never had a chance at peaceful life. They could have. If Kojo had lived. He would have kept Ronin far from them and kept them safe, together and happy. But no, Ronin had replaced Kojo becuase Faith had been too weak to do things alone. She had been too dependant on Ronin.

[Destiny]

Thite gazed at the sky.The sun would rise any second.The brute wanted to share that magical moment with Sunblaze.Swiftly he padded off in the direction he assumed she had gone.More out of instinct than scent he found the clearing from the night before.His mind told him where she was.Silently he padded in the direction where he assumed her form could be found.

The den was still there.The small area.Thite glanced around before catching sight of Sunblaze's golden pelt.Carefully he padded over to her. A slight growl rose in his throat.Ronin's scent still lingered here.Stale and old.But still here.This was not a very familer place to him.Yet somehow it was.Suddenly the sky turned a beautiful redish, orangish, yellowish gold as the sunrise began.Thite's snowy fur brushed Sunblazes own golden pelt as he now stood beside her form.

Sunblaze wasn't startled by Thite's growl. It was natrual. This was where Ronin had roamed for many moons while caring for her family. As the sun rose, Sunblaze's pelt seemed to ripple and blend with it, the golden color tinted with a rose-like red from her father's side. The colors of the rising sun seemed to have been caught in her pelt moons ago when she'd been born on that cold winter night between a living mother and a dying father. As impossible as it seemed, it looked true. Sunblaze leaned lightly against Thite, her head resting against his shoulder.

[Destiny]

Thite smiled and glanced down at her.Licking her gingerly a top the head.The sunrise was gone as fast as it came.There was a brilliant flash of rose pink.Then the sky turned a slightly blueish violet color as the sun rose from the horizon."That."He said."Was the most beautiful sunrise that I could have ever witnessed."He murmurerd.Then he smiled."Then again.I have always been able to see you.And your pelt is far more beautiful than the sunrise could ever be."He murmurered more quietly.The morning was still.No wind.The rising sun heated his pelt.the mist evaportated and it was clear.

Sunblaze smiled at Thite when he spoke about her pelt looking like a sunrise. "I could never compare to a natural sunrise" Sunblaze barked, smiling at Thite. "I'm just an imitation." Sunblaze looked up at the sky painted with pale pastel colors as the sun rose higher, darkening the blue of the sky but keeping the pink and gold fringe around the trees. Sun turned her head and brushed her muzzle against Thite's thick fur. A thought came to mind. Mosca. Thite had spoken the same way to her or similarly. Sun was sure of it. How long would he be attached to her before he went back to Mosca when she reappeared? Would he stay?

[Destiny]

Thite smiled."On the contrary.It is an imitation of you."Thite returned the gesture with much affection.There was worry hidden behind Sunblaze's eyes.What about?"What worrys you."He murmurered in his gentle and calm tones.Eyes gazed understandingly down upon her.Some instinct told him it had to do with Mosca.WIth how he loved Mosca.Could he explain the difference to her is she asked?Could he explain that it was she he loved truly and not Mosca?The brute was not so sure.But if that was what was bothering her than he would have to try.For both their sakes.

"It's nothing" Sunblaze murmured. "Just thinking about the old days." Sun turned to look at the den. "This was what Ronin gave us. Serra was always right. Kojo and Faith gave us life but Ronin let us keep it." Sunblaze sighed. "Pups born in the dead of winter, one on the dying breath of the father, the other to the blood of an imposter. That's our sad story." Sunblaze sighed and padded to the den. She was going to bury it. If she never saw Ronin again, at least she knew she wouldn't ever be able to come back here. She would find Ronin someday and expose him but for now, she had to bury the past.

[Destiny]

Thite only gave a grave nod of his head.It was true.He had heard the story many a time before."If you were born the night I think you were born."He did not continue.The words he had said were not meant to have been spoken aloud.The brute was thinking of the all to painful memory of that night.It had been bitter and icy cold.Snowing and windy enough to knock a tree down.That had been the night....

Sunblaze looked up and turned her head to look at Thite. Sun could see sadness behind his eyes and her mouth turned downward in a worried frown. "Thite...what's wrong?" Sunblaze asked, padding a bit closer. Her paws were muddy from pushing dirt into the den. Sunblaze padded over to him and touched her muzzle against his chest, breathing in his scent and hoping he would trust her and tell her. Her worries were nothing to bother with now but apparently something had happened to Thite on the night she'd been born.

[Destiny]

Thite's eyes looked distant and filled with a past sadness."That was the night.My parents.They through me out.Into the cold.Snapping and snarling they ran me out of their territory.I was only about two and a half, three moons.It was snowing heavily and the wind was enough to blow a full grown wolf of his paws.I struggled through the deep snow until.Until I came upon a wolf.Ronin.I was glad to see a wolf.I did not know what he was like.He grabbed me in his jaws and flung me about twenty feet in the air.I landed a ways away.Then I was lying in the snow.Blood coating my fur.The sounds of Ronin snarling and growling were loud and they rang in my ears.The next thing I new I was lieing in a den.Cobwebs wrapped around my neck wound.A large white fae stood next to me.She said something but I can't remember what.It was like I could'nt hear her when she spoke.Then.She was gone.Vanished. I fell back asleep and when I woke the wound on my neck seemed to be fully healed. Except for a scar."He tilted his head.WIth one paw he shoved some fur out of the way.The wound had not been shown to Sunblaze before.It was well hidden by his pelt.

Sunblaze touched the scar lightly. It was almost identical to the one that was hidden under her golden-red fur. It too came from Ronin. "I guess GoldenMist wanted you to live" Sun murmured. "I'm glad they did." Sunblaze looked up at the sky. Sunblaze turned her head, her fur moving with her and exposing the livid scar hiding just under her fur.

Thite touched it gently.It was almost identical to his own.He remembered the night all too well.No doubt Ronin had caused this scar too. In the future.The wolf would die.Not at his paws.Or Sunblazes.But at both their paws.That was how he would die.Ronin was to horrible for Hellfire.No.He needed an even worse hell.Thite just hoped Golden Mist could find a worse hell for the bloody murderer."I am glad that they wanted you to live as well."He murmurered."Would you beleive that the den i stayed in that night was the one we stayed in last night.We were so close.Even at your birth."he murmured.

"And yet we are so different" Sunblaze murmured. She looked toward the distant mountains. "Thite...I'm going after Ronin. Mate or no mate its time I visit uncle Ronin, maybe meet my cousins and aunt? I'm not going to let him get away with all he's done. His mate at the least has a right to know what he's done." Sunblaze knew Thite would disagree. He thought that just because Ronin had a mate, he should be left alone. Hellfire no. He still had too many sins to a atone for and Sunblaze would make sure he paid in blood. She looked over at Thite. "I would love to walk with you but....I don't know if I can let it go just yet. I sound like Mosca but its true. I don't want revenge for myself. I want to make sure Ronin never forgets what he's done."
