Step. Stumble. Crawl. Limp. Step. Stumble. Crawl. Limp. Step. Stumble. Crawl… Gritting his fangs, the black wolf stopped himself before dragging himself into a stand. He glanced up, seeing the packs ahead of him… he was falling behind again. Alright… limp. He pulled himself shakily onto his feet, heart in his throat, blood in his mouth, and thoughts in a whirlwind raging around him. He felt ill with heartache… but wouldn’t allow his thoughts to stray to the battling wolves again. He forced himself to think of every action he was taking… a meager distraction for his distraught mind. Step. Stumble. Crawl. Limp. Inhale. Exhale. Stumble. Crawl. Inhale. Limp. Step. Exhale. Step. Step. Inhale. Exhale. Stumble. Inhale. Crawl. Exhale. Limp. Step. Stumble. Crawl…

I love everything about you that hurts, So let me see your moves, let me see your moves....
trade baby blues for wide-eyed browns, I sleep in your old shirts and walk through this house, In your shoes, I know it's strange, It's a strange way of saying, that I know, I'm supposed to love you....
Siveria sighed heavily. She'd let Mist and Silenthowl take the lead. She needed some time alone...couldn't handle things at the moment. She sniffed the air, predicting that Blood Mist was a good twenty miles back. Turning, a figure caught her eye. Her lovely blue-grey gaze rested on Arroyo, and uncertainty clouded her. She felt suddenly choked, unable to speak, but relieved at the same time. Arroyo was still breathing. That's all that mattered anymore...

An involuntary shudder rippled through his body. Arroyo froze in his tracks, throat tightening. He staggered, blood dripping from his maw. His legs gave out and he collapsed in the snowbank, closing his eyes in an exhausted gesture. The images burned fiercely in his mind... he was positive it was Siveria. A whimper of despair escaped his muzzle. Not of pain from his many wounds and illness, but from the sheer pain of coming to terms with the fact that Siveria -- the wolf he lived for -- was going to die. It was destroying him... At that moment, he was wrestling with fact and denial... and his mind was giving up.

"Arroyo?" Siveria was at his side in a moment, despite the fact that she knew he wouldn't want her near him. She bent to lick the blood away from his mouth, then hesitated. "I....I should leave....I'm sorry..." She backed off, tail between her legs, which was a first for the alphess.

"...Siveria...?" Breath rushed back into his lungs and his eyes snapped open, pupils drifting in Siveria's direction. Flashes of blood. So many flashes.... of Siveria dying... "Oh, damn it all! DAMN IT ALL!" he cried out furiously, shaking frame and tears in his eyes.

"I'm sorry! I w-won't bother you again..." She whimpered, tears flowing like rivers. "I won't be a nusiance to you any longer..." She took a few steps back, eyes so full of hurt.

Arroyo swiveled about, eyes wide. They were glazed over, horrifying images flashing through his head. And then... they were gone. He blinked, and his eyes were clear. He noticed for the first time that Siveria was weeping, standing a little ways from him. Swallowing sharply, he closed his eyes again. "You're not a nuisance," he woofed gently. He paused to catch his breath and soothe his ragged breathing, looking as if he had just awoke from a nightmare.

"W-What?" She inquired, extremely confused. Was he just trying to let her down easy? Or was this a way to throw it all in her face even more?

Arroyo shivered again, then coughed up a bloody thread of saliva. He gazed at Siveria tiredly, and then winced. Though he hadn't meant to, he looked away. He didn't want the pictures to manifest themselves again... and whenever he saw Siveria he imagined her death. "Dear Lupus, I'm going insane..."

Siveria stood there...still very unsure. She was ready to dart away if he planned to inflict pain. She wouldn't let this be a repeat of Moonlight..

He suddenly furrowed his brow. "Wait... why would you think I thought you were a nuisance?" He looked at her out of the corner of his eye, but still didn't turn to face her... he was frightened.

"BECAUSE YOU DON'T!" She snapped, cracking.
But I digress....
"YOU'RE JUST LIKE ALL THE REST!" She burst into tears, turning away and running.
Nine days.

Arroyo perked his ears, turning to stare after her. He felt his mind crawling, the images threatening to make their way back into his head. But he felt so much hurt-- heartache and sorrow-- to care about that mental abuse. "Get up, dammit," he cursed himself. Struggling to stand, the black wolf staggered to his paws and limped after Siveria as fast as he could... His thoughts were now a vicious gale, tossing his emotions about like a rubber raft in a raging whirlpool. But all he could think to do was keep Siveria from leaving... Step. He had lost a mother. Stumble. He had lost a father. Crawl. He had lost a sister. Limp. He wouldn't lose Siveria. He broke into a sprint, his lame leg like a useless, mangled branch dragging behind him. Every step sent a tingle of needles up his leg and into his spine. But he could see he was getting closer to her... he would only push harder. Blood sliding from the corner of his mouth, he howled, "Siveria! Wait!" By now, he was breathing irregularly-- after collapsing from exhaustion and sickness, he was in no shape to continue running.
