Shiver stared at Slash. She didn't want to believe what she had just heard.

Lupus looked away from the wolves.

Death appeared behind them. "I figured you three would need some help." He growled to his packmates.

Darkdeath turned his head at Death. waite what? what just happened.

"I'm not coming with you. No matter what you say to me. How could you do that to Lupus? To Thorn? To Rhain?" she looked down. "I don't know you anymore..."

"If you want to know why I did what I did, I'll tell you. Lupus was tricked by a nasty she-wolf named Rhain. She made him believe that they should join Lupus' Realm with Golden Mist. I couldn't let that happen."

Shiver looked at her paws. She was always taught that Lupus was the right way... that Lupus should always be followed. Respected. Worshipped. And now her own leader tried to vanquish him?

Lupus, who looked like an ordinary wolf, observed the reactions.

"Let me ask you what you were doing with that stone? WHY DID YOU PUT THORN IN HELLFIRE??" Slash screamed.

"Easy. She tried to kill me!" Death laughed. "I take Lupus' place now, and that is that."

Lupus jumped foward, knocking Death off his paws. He shoved his muzzle close to his face. "No matter what you do, son. No matter where you send me, no matter where you go.... I am with you. Always. You can't escape me." His voice became a deeper, unwolf-like... almost demon-sounded voice. "Replacement? There is no such thing." His figure shimmered, and he disappeared behind his veil of transparancy. He sidestepped quickly to stand beside the others, glaring.

Feverfew came up, "What's going on over here?" She asked.

"You will never take Lupus's place. You've lost me. Forget about taking me with you. Lupus would kill you. No, I would kill you. And, it would be fun." Slash said with a smirk.

"That's what you think. But tomorrow you will see who the real ruler of this forest is. And you may want to keep a short leash on the pretty pet of yours, Lupus." He flicked his tail towards Rhain. "She might have an accident.

Rhain glared at Death, Lightning struck behind them and the sky rumbled.
