Moonless Meeting (10/14/07)

Rain frowned. She did not want to speak first. She looked to the wolves. She stepped up and was ready to speak.

"White Mist have been good. The leave of Summer is lowering prey levels but all is well.

"We have four new lupus proeliaters, Santo, Maple, Seidai, and Mona." (I'm about to cry.. maple and santo are howl's charries) she said and acknowledge them.

Maple and Santo sat up proudly, wanting to look fierce and impressive in front of the other packs. (I think Howl gave them to me,,,not sure.) Sivvy burst into tears.

Accalia had looked at Silver questioningly, but the meeting had started. She already knew there must've been a fire for the faint smell of burn fur was still in the air.

Grug looked at Silver, then Zuni. He had calmed down since Silver came to sit by them. "The magic trick I guess." He turned back around to listen to the meeting.

Zuni smiled the best he could, but still couldn't hide his anger. He sat up straight and closed his eyes. "Yes. We all hate smoke too," he growled.

Silver laid next to Zuni, eyes closed almost like a sleeping pup. She hadn't gotten around to properly washing the soot from her fur, too busy trying to find ways to treat her raw throat and sore lungs. She felt sorched from the inside out and it showed when she winced with each breath though she tried to hide it. "Where's Sedaka?" she murmured quietly in a hoarse voice. A healer would be able to help her, or at least Silver hoped he would.

Zuni looked down, his eyes soft. He licked Silver's forehead. "Not sure. I haven't seen him for awhile. I wonder if he even made it out of the fire..." If the healer was dead, that would be bad for the wolves with bad burns. And only if he was there when Storm had her pups. She would still be alive.

Silver got to her paws, eyes dull. "I'm going somewhere quieter" she murmured to Zuni before turning and trudging away, biting back the coughs that wanted to escape her throat. She didn't want to inturrupt the meeting just because she couldn't handle a little smoke. She padded down the bank of the lake and into the undergrowth toward where Grey Mist had once been, now burnt and devastated. Silver laid down under a bush, eyes half closed and breathing ragged. Walking seemed to be harder now...

Zuni felt a whine escape his throat. He looked at the leaders who were making their announcements, then where Silver left to. He decided to run after her. "Don't move too much. You'll hurt yourself... And don't talk at all. Your throat needs to rest. Just sleep. I'm going to stay here and make sure you're all right." He sat down and waited.

Accalia stared after Zuni and laughed. "He seems so angry now," she said sarcasticlly. "And you haven't found a wolf for you yet?"

Grug shook his head, but then looked at Destiny. "Erm... No. I'm um... too busy at the moment. I have to do some... stuff..."

[Ärï]

Silver looked at Zuni without a flicker of her usual fire. "I'm fine" she rasped. "Just a little burned." Silver stopped talking as rough coughs tore themselves from her throat. Flecks of scarlet escaped Silver's maw as she went limp again, tongue lulling from her parted jaws as she panted, trying to catch her breath.

Zuni noticed the blood. "You think you're fine, but you're not. As soon as the meeting is over, I'll ask Destiny if she has seen Sedaka. Now rest or you'll kill yourself." He turned around and laid down.His eyes were closed, but his ears were sensitive to any sounds.

Silver couldn't sleep. She didn't dare. She stayed awake, eyes open but glassy. Her breathing was ragged and had a rough edge to it that could be clearly heard. It hurt like hellfire to draw breath. It hurt worse then the night before. Could burns get worse even without the heat of a flame? It felt like it.

Zuni turned his head at Silver, his eyes were watery now. He nudged her softly and sighed. "Maybe we should go back and see if Sedaka is around. The rain should be getting rid of the last of the fire. You're in a very bad condition." He licked in visible burns and got up. "Or you want to try to drink some water? That could help the inside burns."

"I'm alright" Silver whispered. "I want to sleep but I'm scared to." A shiver ran down Silver's spine. "I want to know I can wake up." The sterling fae coughed again, sending shudders down her slender frame. "If I sleep, I don't think I'll be able to come back."

"Don't think that, Silver!" Zuni growled. "Close your eyes and sleep. Remember, I'm here for you. If something happens, I'll wake you up and call someone for help. I can sense things like this. First, let's go get some water." He stood up and looked around for some small puddles.

Silver's eyes slid half closed. She knew Zuni was wrong. If she slept now she'd die. The fae could feel darkness tugging at her, trying to tempt her away. A tear slid from Silver's eyes. "Don't be mad Zuni" Silver murmured quietly. "You can't feel this. Its too deep. If I sleep, no one will be able to wake me. Find a healer. I don't care what pack."

Zuni looked back at her and felt a tear go down. "I'm not mad. But, I will go find a healer. Don't move." He ran out, looking around the clearing. He didn't know any healers other than Sedaka, and he wasn't there. How would Zuni ask, the leaders were busy speaking.
