"Spawn of Lupus!" Diablo howled. He swiveled around to Lucinda. "Get Redfang here, and tell her to nurse the pup NOW, and not to ask questions. Don't tell her what this is... I'll return shortly." The red medicine wolf turned and squeezed through the hole.

Lucinda fetched Redfang who snarled as the pup began to suckle. The pup, suprisingly, snarled twice as sinister in return.

"Lucinda," Diablo growled urgently. "Help Redfang to the nursery... and afterwards, meet back here. I need to speak with you." He looked at the pup, picked it up by the scruff, not gentle in any sense as he usually would be with other pups. He put it in his nest, and looked at Redfang. "I will bring the child to you when I am done with it."

Redfang nodded. Lucinda helped her get settled into the nursery. She made a comfy moss nest for the queen. She then ran back to the medicine den and looked worriedly at Diablo. "There's something wrong with that pup, isn't there?"

"Don't tell any other wolves, especially Redfang or Bloodsbane." He paused, looked around, and whispered. "My thinking was valid. This is quite literally a spawn of Lupus."

Lucinda could hardly stop herself from gasping. "He...Redfang? He told me.....they're mates now???

"Not exactly, no," Diablo woofed. "Redfang probably thinks it was Bloodsbane. You see, the last time she visited Lupus, Lupus secretly implanted a shadow in her, and she gave birth to it thinking that it was Bloodsbane's son."

Lucinda nodded and glanced at Death. He stared back at her with bood-red eyes, and it seemed as if he could see right through her. "Does he actually carry the blood of Lupus?! He could be great....he could probably even overthrow Bloodsbane when he's older!"

"He has the shadow of Lupus, you mean," Diablo growled. "Lupus has not spilt his own blood for centuries!" He looked at the pup. "We should keep him away from others that may discover who he is..."

Lucinda nuzzled the pup lightly. He tilted his head at her and woofed softly. "I think we should keep him here rather than in the nursery. Redfang has already rejected him...and she's bound to notice something's wrong,"

Diablo paused, looking at Death. "Something is wrong... okay, tell Redfang that Death is no longer her responsibility." He was staring at the pup. "I'm going to try something..."

She nodded and exited the den. After a few moments she returned. Death had fixed his crimson gaze on Diablo. He looked so evil and sinister, that is a suprise when he squeaked,"Daddy?"

Diablo fixed Death with a hard stare. "No. But you will meet your father soon," he replied. "But I will be responsible for you." He put the pup in his den of wolf furs. "You will sleep here, alright?" Diablo paused. "Can you open your mouth for me, Death?"

Death opened his mouth wide, always keeping his unblinking eyes on Diablo. His fangs were long and red. Lucinda mumbled, "What's so bad about pups?" under her breath.

Diablo uttered a small gasp. "I think he would be happier with chewed meat, along with small helpings of the make-shift milk," he murmured. "This pup was given an early start on life. His fangs are sharp and good for chewing softer portions."
