Mist led the way through the new territory with steady but uncertain pawsteps. Their first task was to mark out the new borders. So far, she'd led her pack to their new camp by knowledge she'd procurred from the old legends. She thought hard now, trying to remember everything she'd learned of these new lands. She smiled with satisfaction as the ancient border came into view. She marked the spot, then continued along the line. She glanced back at the warriors she'd selected for this patrol, Flower, Riku, Aimi, and Akane, and nodded for them to follow the border and mark it as well.
Riku stepped forward to do as Mist had done. So far, so good. They hadn't encountered any real troubles since they had arrived in the valley. The old legends and myths had proved to be reliable sources of information. So it's true, then. Fate truly led us to live here...

Flower basicly watched the leader and the other warrior and just see what they did so the she-wolf would do the same so that was what she did. The warrior just hopes that this place would really due for the winter but Flower is already use to moving around and finding a place. She looked around to see what her mind would be set on every sunrise.

Riku sniffed the air, scenting a group of snowshoes not far off. He looked at Mist, who nodded her permission, and stalked off into the snowy scene. Rikue prowled forward, treading silently accross the hard, icy-ridden snow. His paws barely made and imprint into the white ground since all of his wait was on his haunches. He prepared himself, then at the right moment, sprang. He dealt a quick deathbite to the rabbit as well as one of its parteners. This should please Polena. He wasn't expecially fond of the grumpy elder wolf, but Polena was part of the pack and had been through much; she deserved respect.

Aimi sniffed the air. She wanted to show off her hunting skills, too. Not that her brother was any help. She took a few steps, sniffed the air for prey, then continued on. Maybe I can just focus on help set the new borders. I'm not the best hunter around.
I wonder what the other packs are doing. Maybe they're also setting up territories. Akane paused and pricked his ears. He has thought that he had heard something. Stupid wind. He continued his search for food.

Riku buried his rabbits so he could pick them up later. He followed Mist into the woods to help her with marking the border. Though Winter was being considerably kind to the pack wolves, prey was still a bit scarce. Siveria probably hasn't gotten a hold on the whole 'goddess' thing yet. He smiled at this, imagining the silvery leader grunting and graoning in attempt to create snow. Out of respect for Siveria, he kept his images private.
Mist followed the border up, marking a large portion of their new territory. They still had much work to do, but they were making great progress. "Good work, Riku." She nodded to the warrior. "There's an injured buck not far north of here. Anyone want to have a go at it?" She called back to her warriors. She nodded for Aimi and Akane to find and hunt the creature.

"I do!" Akane ran ahead of the group. He carefully followed the scent of the injured buck. How should I take this one down? He looked back at his sister, hoping she was following. "Come over here. I need an idea."
Aimi crept next to her brother. "Since it's already injured, it may be kind of easy to take it down." She thought for a quick moment before getting an idea. "One of will go distract it. The other will bite down on its legs and bring it down. I'll distract it."

Mist noted the neophytes plan and watched with interest. Okay, good plan, now let's see how you two put it into action... She had always taken an interest in the training of young wolves, so this wasn't anything new for Mist.
Riku continued along, marking the border where Mist had showed him. The young wolf had heard Aimi and Akane planning, too. He smiled fondly at the eager neophytes. "Who are their mentors?" He asked Mist.
(Hey, Acca...who are their mentors? =] )

((They don't have any. They joined the pack at the beginning of the journey.))
Aimi ran over and stood in front of the buck 30 feet away. She barked and growled at it, trying to get its attention. She flicked the end of her tail as a signal for Akane to go.
Akane crept slowly behind the buck. His heart was racing fast. What if it kicked? What if it knew he was right behind it. Shaking his head to clear the thoughts, he rushed over and bit down hard on the buck's left hind leg. Maybe if I break the bone, it'll be even easier to kill.

Mist flicked her tail to Riku and said, "They joined the pack at the beginning of the journey. They don't have official mentors yet. That will be taken care of in a few days. Nova and Desel are also ready for mentors, so we'll wait untill their ceremony to announce Aimi and Akane's mentors," she explained. "Smart move. The buck would've kicked had ha not taken hold of that leg. It still might kick, but at least it will have on less leg avalible for kicking." Mist smiled as she watched the two. "You have a soft spot for youngsters?" Riku smiled, teasing good-naturedly. "Yes. They are the foundations of the pack. They are not valued as much as they should be," Mist responded, tone light and carefree.

Akane let go of the buck's leg and leaped back quickly. The buck's leg just flew past his ear. Close one. Now what, it's attention is at me now. He looked at his sister, then at the buck's other leg. He nodded towards it, hoping his sister had got the message.
Aimi leaped for the buck's right hind leg. and also bit down as hard as she could. Your dead meat! Too bad for you being all alone.

Mist nodded to herself, mentally going over the tactics the neophytes were making use of. "Yes...that's exactly how it should be done..." she murmered to herself. "Alright...I suppose we should finish up the border, then. Those two will catch up with us..." she told the rest of the patrol. Mist followed up the lines they had layed down so far and continued to mark it.
Riku veered off the border, scenting a hawk. "I'll be there in a moment..." The hawk was devouring the last bits of a snake. Its back was to Riku, giving the wolf a perfect place to strike. Riku prowled forward, careful to remain silent. One...two...three.... He leaped, taking the hawk down as it tried to fly away. He killed the bird with a swift bite to the throat. He carried his kill proudly back to the others and buried it with the rabbits.
Mist nodded, pleased with the efforts of her packmates. "Those along with the buck should keep the pack satisfied for at least tonight."

"Now!" With the buck's attention back on Aimi, Akane leaped for its neck. Now what are you going to do? Only two legs still fit to use and already injured before we attacked you. He sunk his claws into the buck's shoulder and chest.
Aimi let go of its leg and ran over to jump onto its neck. She could feel the buck going slowly down. Our first kill! How better can this get! Looking at her brother, she saw a sparkle of satisfaction in his eyes.

Mist glanced over her shoulder to see Aimi and Akane finishing off the buck. "Great job, you two! We've marked enough of the border for today; we can start heading back. I'll help you carry that," she barked. She slung part of the buck over her back, waiting for Aimi and Akane to do the same with their ends.
Riku dug up his prey. He threw the rabbits over his back and bent down to pick up the hawk with his mouth. "I feel like a cornacopia!" He laughed. Mist smiled good-naturedly.

Akane Helped Aimi put part of the buck on her back, and she helped him. "I still can't believe we did it! Our first large kill!" He started walking with his head held high. "Aimi, you were really good, too. I bet you thought you wouldn't be able to catch anything."
"True." Aimi sighed, but a smile was on her face. "That thing was actually tougher than it looked. Won't everyone be surprised who killed the buck!" She also walked with her head held high.

"It was fine work," Mist agreed. "You two get first pick out of the prey pile when we get back. Then you should get some rest. It's been a long month," Mist advised. "There's still much to be done, but I think every wolf needs to eat and rest first. We need to have all of our energy for the challenges to come." Mist nodded to Riku, signaling the wolf could carry on ahead of them if he wished.
Riku dipped his head to Mist, Aimi, and Akane, then headed off ahead. He was anxious to get back to camp, though he didn't know why. He wasn't especially close to any wolf in the pack, so it's not like he had anything really to look forward to. And what about Mona? He doubted Mona cared much for him anymore. They hadn't spoken for maybe a moon now. It was time to accept that she no longer cared and move on. He would find someone else....
