The slim, slender physique of a young wolven female wove its way through the brush. She held her head high and walked with dignity. Her ears were pricked, always on a constant watch. Though the forest seemed still, she whirled around, spitting crossly at an old pine. "I know you're there, Ralph! Show yourself!" She demanded.
Ralph emerged from behind the pine, eyes narrowed with anxiety and confusion. "Liv...you can't leave the pack. You're pregnant, for Sky's sake! And it's Winter..."
"You've forgotten who I am, dearest Ralph," she sighed, calming a bit.
"I know, Liv, but these are difficult times! You aren't even familiar with these parts yet!" He protested, knowing full well she wouldn't change her mind.
"I've been well into unknown spaces before, Ralph. You know that. I'll be fine. And when the pups are born, I will raise them untill they are six moons. Then it will be for them to choose which life they will lead. Returning to my great-grandmother's pack was a good experiance....but it is not the life for me," She growled lowly, daring him to speak again.
"What about us?" Ralph added, voice hoarse.
"The affection we held was bliss, but you and I both know that it never was and never will be more than that. You do not love me, and I don't love you. There will be another for you. There will be something deeper." Without waiting to see what else her former companion had to say, Liviana turned and strode out of sight. Though she felt bad for leaving Ralph to himself, she knew that they were not meant to be. To live in a pack was not her fate. To live as a loner was not his. And though she still felt affection for him in her own way, and vice versa, it was not enough. Liviana relaxed as she increased the distance between her and the packlands. She was a loner through and through. Nothing would or could ever change that.
