A Matter of Fire and Ice {Rhain/Lupus}

"I get that. She's walking in the shadows, Thorn. Bad prophecy marks that one..." She sighed mournfully. "I think it may be too late for her."

Thorn sighed. "Like we actually get to see her grow up in her crooked little way." It was obvious why Thorn was so grumpy. Winter was working it's way to the top and it exausted Thorn to try and get ALL the leaves from ALL the trees JUST to make Verlust happy. But NOOO!! It NEVER was ENOUGH!

"It's a waste. She didn't have to turn out this way. Shomebody could've noticed the crooked tree." She stood up and padded off. She was sick of pakcs not noticing wolves. She'd seen it in White Mist, too. Grey Mist, yes. And Even in Silver Mist...
"This needs to stop. Now."

Thorn sighed. "What are we supposed to do about it? I can;t do anything about those friggin leaves. WHAT IS SO BAD ABOUT TWO LITTLE LEAVES ON A DANG TREE?"

"I don't friggen care about your stupid leaves! Is that all they are to you? Leaves? Is Clove just a rotting, dead, decaying leaf to you? And what about Maple and Santo? They were lucky. They had someone to go to...." Rhain shook her head. "Blue Moon's lucky. He had someone to go to." She growled. "Nobody cares. There's nobody to go to."

"CAN'T YOU SEE RHAIN?!" Thorn barked madly. "NO ONE CARES ABOUT ANYTHING ANYMORE! NO ONE CARES THAT WE WON'T BE HERE ANYMORE IN A FEW WEEKS! JUST LEAVE THOSE FOOLS ALONE! THEY DON'T CARE!" By now, tears were streaming down her face. "I hate them... they don't deserve it... they don't..."

She rocked herself back and forth. "They don't c-care... they don't deserve it... dead... 21... silver.... n-nightshade... no... no... dear Lupus... NOOOO...."

Rhain shook her head. "You're right. Nobody gives a damn anymore. Nobody cares if everyone else rots. If nobody cared then who the hell cares if Sivieria dies? Who cares that she gets her leg ripped off? Who fucking cares, Thorn!?" She snarled.

Thorn looked at her paws. "I'm barely hanging on. Here we are, once again, torn into peicies. Can't deny, can't pretend I thought really cared. Broken up, deep inside, and they won't get to see the tears we cry, behind these eyes..."

"Stop it. Stop it now!" Rhain snarled. "You're so...you're an ass. You're gonna let the daughter of your friend, Holly, leave. You're gonna let her life be hell? It's still Autumn, Thorn. And you're going to do nothing about it? Not even send Bob or somebody to go with her?"

"No." Thorn replied dryly. "No. What would that do? Change things? Change anything? No. She would still go. She would still lead herself to her death. She would still be the crooked tree. And what kind of life would that be? Not one. If anything, you should be proud of Clove. She's the only wolf with some d*** sense around here. And what would I still be? The daughter of a cat who tried to help but failed. Again."

"At least you would give her SOMEONE. Maybe then she would straighten. Maybe she wouldn't be a crooked tree anymore!" Rhain retorted.

"And we are left with NOTHING." Thorn barked, her voice calm, but with an edge. "We still die. Verlust still wins. Because winter will always be the most powerful. And somewhere... there would always be the crooked tree... somewhere."

Siveria Nightshade laughed at this. "Verlust wins? You're all sadly mistaken. Wait untill the twenty-first. We'll see if Verlust is the winner then!"

"Well, until then, we live through this." Thorn said. "Simply. It's just a matter of time."

"I hate you." Rhain spat, furious. "You don't even care. You're heartless."
