The day was hot and the air so thick, the young healer neophyte was sure she could slice it with her own, untrained claws. The silver-blue she-wolf picked her way towards the Twilight Lake, seeking a place to clear her thoughts and rest for a bit. She still hadn't talked to Magic about being made a full healer, but she was going to upon her return. Annelise was a bit nervous about asking her mentor, but she was also confident she was ready for the status. She sat on the banks of the lake, in the cool, damp shade of an old willow. It's arms hung down carelessly, tickling her as they twitched in the slightest of breezes. She bent forward, lapping up the water with greatful relief, savoring the cold running down her dry, parched throat. When she was finally satisfied, she rose from the water, but lingered on her reflection. She seemed older than she last recalled...not worn and tattered, but slightly larger, maybe a bit taller, but still slim as ever. Her eyes still held a playful glint, but she seemed less youthful and child-like... Wow. I really need to get out of the medicine den more often! I barely even recognize myself! Her senses perked up as another wolf seemed to be approaching. Familiar... Could it be who I think it is...? She privately hoped it was.

Damn! Leaping, Shade fell into pursuit of the scrawny hare as it raced from his grasp, alerted by the snapping of a twig. Come on, come on-- "--gotcha!" Shade tumbled to a halt, blood spraying from his jaws as he barely snagged his prey. He dragged it toward him- the rabbit squirming helplessly in his grasped- as he delivered the fatal bite to its neck. Satisfied when he grew limp, Shade released a slow sigh. Such a messy kill... He sniffed his catch, both disappointed at its size and relieved to find any food at all during their recent famine. Suddenly aware that his maw was covered in blood, he sighed and brought himself to a stand. Best wash this off... Quickly burying his prey in the ground, he straightened himself and headed for the lakeshore... before recognizing the undeniable scent of Siverian. He froze. Could a wolf be trespassing...? He secretly hoped it would be the neophyte from the gathering- how nice she was... and how lovely she looked. Not a neophyte at all- she's a grown fae his inner mind seemed to whisper. No- quiet. Focus. He crept up to the shore, peering through the brush at the wood's edge- and saw with a surge of relief that it was in fact the very femme he had been hoping it would be. Feeling more confident, Shade padded out with a regular step, the dark-furred wolf heading for Annelise with a nod of greeting. "Isn't this a surprise? Nice to see you again, Annelise." He looked out across the waters, reminding himself that he was here to wash the blood from his muzzle, not to chat... but all the same, he couldn't help but look back at her. "...you look well."

De ja vu wasn't exactly the way to describe her exact feelings. No...it was more like a 'speak of the devil' moment. The dark-pelted warrior stood before her, and her eyes widened in suprise. She blinked slowly, then a small smile spread across her silvery maw. "I am well," she murmured, tail twitching slightly from sudden nerves. "You look fine yourself...looks like a hard hunt, though," she woofed, referring to the red splattered across his muzzle. She hoped he didn't take this the wrong way; the latest rumor was that the Yozorans and Sheerans were having a hard hunting season.

Shade’s eyes flashed, anger seeping through his veins- but her delicate smile made him realize that she was trying to be polite, not judgmental. Relaxing and trying to pretend as if nothing had bothered him, he grinned back and nodded. “Yep- hard hunt, but good enough.” He sent a silent ‘thank you’ to GoldenWolf that he had not brought his scrawny catch to the lakeshore with him- it would have reflected the pack’s weakness. But she wouldn’t have minded anyway… she’s a friend, after all. Stop thinking of her as a friend- we’re at war! Who cares about war!? He blinked, suddenly aware that he had been staring at her as his internal voices raged on. Feeling warmth pulsing in his ears, he broke eye contact and coughed nervously. “…so, are you going to become a full Healer soon?”

At the flash and flicker of Shade's gaze, Annelise shuffled her paws, nervously, looking down at her paws with slight shame. She hadn't meant to offend him, but when she conjured up the courage to return her eyes to his, all seemed to be forgiven. She maintained the gaze for a few moments, then let a smile break out on her face as he remembered her hopes to be a full healer. She dipped her head, eyes glowing. "Yes. I'm going to ask Magic about it as soon as I get back to camp. With luck, the ceremony will be tonight!" I can't wait until you see it-- Wait...you won't see it... Because you aren't a Siverian...or a Destinian for that matter... Damn. She shook herself, trying to rid her mind of thoughts like the ones she'd just had. It's not fair. Freya and I are friends, and Kar and I are close...but he's been rather distant lately....and Freya's busy as a diplomat between the Destinians and the Siverians. I finally find a decent wolf who seems to understand me and we're about to go to war with one another. And to make things worse, he's actually kind of handsome-- Stop right there! You barely know each other, he's your enemy, and this cannot be happening right now! During her mental argument, she realize that her eyes were locked on his. She blushed, feeling warm under her pelt of silver-blue and black. She looked back down at her paws, feeling the hot embarressment creep over her. "Er...sorry about that...."
