The night was alive and sinsiter in darkness, the jagged gravel slopes of the Xavrien Heights illuminated like mouths of rugged-cut fangs in the pale moonlight. And in the shadows, a femme waited, eyes glinting with the anticipation of the kill, her ragged brown features were concealed with the spilled ink canvas that was the shadows in the undergrowth. And she waited, auds perked, tucked down, silent, awaiting her victims.
The first to stumble up this unfortunate road was a male, faintly white and streaked with muck and grime, saliva leaking from his bleeding mouth. He stood alone, seemingly high on himself as he threw back his head, grunting gruffly and letting rip a deep, gutteral howl of ecstasy. "IS THIS WHAT YOU WANTED?! IS THIS WHAT I GET FOR BREAKING YOUR STUPID CODE?! WELL LOOK AT ME NOW, TWILIGHT! LOOK AT ME NOW! HERE I STAND BEFORE YOU, FEARLESS, FOR YOU HAVE ALREADY CUT INTO ME THE THING I FEAR MOST! AND NOW, NOT EVEN DEATH ITSELF PHASES ME!" He grinned, devil's eyes triumphant and psychotic as they landed in the brush. "And who might you be? My slayer coming to take me? Come then, take me now, sip my blood and let it flow through the grounds that are lit by Twilight's ethereal gleam. Let them send me to Hellfire, let them lock me with the tyrants and burn the my remnants, for I've already been scorched so much that all that you see here is ashes."
Sekhmet's eyes narrowed as she made a forward movement, like a flash of lightning, she was on him, teeth buried in his skull, and like claps of thunder his skull was crackling, his wails of agony joining his defiance to the night sky. "What the--- SWEET MOTHER OF--"
"SILENCE, PUPPET!" She snarled, voice cold, heartless. "Now, let me rip the life from your limbs, as you do not realize how much it is worth, how much it means, what a privelage it is to live, to be free, to be wolf! and now it is taken from you, as you are not grateful for your divinely given gifts!"
"NO! DON'T! I HAVE PUPS---"
Her crimson talons flitted scross his float, and cutains of blood flowed from the slitted veins. His eyes were wide, staring straight ahead and forever frozen in a state of shock and regret.
And Owen was dead.
The sound of rapid pawsteps made the huntress' head snap up from her prey. She laughed darkly, softly to herself, then, in one fluid movement, was once again out of sight. She left the corpse there, letting her bait lure in her next project.
"No....please...no...." The white alphess was worse than her son, her former mysterious beauty was now thick, matted, blackened. "OWEN! OWEN!" She screamed, rushing to her son's side, cradling him delicately. She pressed her nose to his forehead, tears slipping out as she rocked back and forth. humming a soft lullaby in his eternally deaf ears. "Owen....no.....my son, my dearest son....." she whispered, voice wispy, soft, barely audible as she spoke her last tender words to her first son.
Forest.....I give up. There a pieces of you left in my grandchildren, Truffle, Twig, Terralisa....but I don't feel you here. I don't feel you anywhere, and you have forever been intertwined in me.
You were my hero, Forest, my light from my solitude.
And I feel like a newborn child,
Everytime I get a chance to see you smile,
It's not complicated,
Always so jaded,
I feel like a hero,
And you are my heroine....
Do you know that your love is the sweetest sin?
The sweetest sin....
Her breath was cut off, she was gasping, eyes wide as they were forced into the eyes of Twilight, the stars spiraling like a staircase downward, winding, twisting, twirling, falling towards her. The winde was wild, screaming with her as she howled a melody of inexplicable beauty. She closed her misty-blue eyes, tilting her muzzle to the stars and singing her story to the forest, to all who inhabited it, as living witnesses to bear rememberence to the story of a wolven Mist.
Her vision was flickering between that of the spirits dancing in the rainbow aurora on that velvet sky and the images from her pawsteps, the places she had been...the tales she'd woven.....
Too late baby, there's no turnin' around,
I got my hands in my pockets and my head in the clouds,
This is how I do, when I think about you...
She was a flicker in the sunlight, the breath of the water spraying on your face in the middle of the hottest summer day. She moved like water, almost dancing as she hunted, as she fought with her blood, her sweat, her tears, all for the ones she loved, all for those whose hearts beat so close to her own.
In a constant rythm, everlasting.
I never thought that you could break me apart,
I keep a sinsiter smile and I'm holdin' my heart,
You wanna get inside, then you can get in line,
But not this time,
'Cause you caught me off gaurd...
Now I'm runnin' and screaming...
She was there when Sparkling Ember, her best friend, joined Silenthowl, Burn, and Light to throw off the course that had been engraved in blood, waiting to doom them all.
She's been there when Rain had died, turning forever to Lluvia in the cold, reckless hatred that was winter.
She'd been there to fall into a Forest that left her breathless, forever enchanted. Some places so flawless, radiant, alluring that it was a wonder that the two could ever create such a perfect portrait of love;; Only two would ever know the glory of the Forest in the Mist.
I feel like a hero, and you are my heroine....
And the Blood that pulsed through the Mist had made her strong, vibrant, determined and ultimately cause an evolution into the alphess that she'd reigned as. She'd charged onward, leading her brethen.
The sweetest sin....
And in the Valley of Endless Winter, she gave her pack refuge, and raised her dearest children in the ways of the wild, breathing into them what Forest had given in her, marking the with Mist.
And I don't know why, you'd even try,
But I won't lie,
You caught me off gaurd...
Know I'm runnin' and screaming....
The Light had filtered through the Mist, slowling breaking it down and leaving the Forest empty and hollow. And as the Mist was banished away, the light driving her off, she lost her way. And never, never did she find it again.
And it was a love that she had been ripped from. One she had never forgotten. One she was so blessed to have had. And children she was so thankful to have raised. A pack she was so proud to have been part of, to have lead.
It's not complicated....
No. Love is not complicated. It's only realizing it, finding it, keeping it, that's complicated. And though he's lost, it will never leave. He is forever intertwined in me.
"Oh...." She gasped, shuddered, falling away from her memories as the stars spiraled back, her spirit looking up into the eyes of the wolf she loved.
I've missed you, Love.
And he took her paw in his.
Dad?
Son.
And with his other paw, he took a hold of his son.
Together, they rose as souls in the night.
Her head slouched against Owen's, mother and son, together in eternity.
Do you know that your love is the sweetest sin?
