Zero, still a pup barely at the age of one year, listened with his brothers to his mother's story about the wolf packs. His brothers coward in fear at the story, trying to hide behind one another. They were yelping in fear, thinking that the 'brutes that had a howl as bad as a thousand wolves screaming at once, and mercilessly killed one another' were going to catch them and gobble them up.
"Oh, be quite, you sniveling pups!" Zero snapped at them.
"Mommy! He's being mean to us again!" they both cried.
"Zero, why can't you be more like your brothers? Never mind. C'mon you three, off to bed. Your father's going to take you hunting in the morning, you'll need all your strength!" Their mother nudged them into a small cave they had been hiding in.
"Wolfs in the packs only need to use a fraction of their strength to hunt. Father's weak, and the most cowardly of you all. I'm sleeping outside." Zero padded out of the cave. He cast a sorrowful glance to the gaping hole in the boulder. He turned and ran without another word to his family.
Zero woke with a start, panting heavily. He gave a great sigh and laid his head down on his paws, his eyes fixed on the dull nothingness of the space in front of him.
He had that dream again. It was the last time he ever saw his family. They were weak, that much was true, but they were still his family and he sometimes found himself wondering if they were still alive and well. He was lucky he had one of the better dreams. Sometimes he dreamed about their deaths or starving and close to dieing. He gave another great sigh and closed his eyes, not falling back into the dreamland he often found himself in, but instead just thinking.

Chicken Muffin sniffed daintily at a blood-covered leaf. Moving quickly but with experienced silence, she honed in on her prey. Being alone, catching deer was dangerous, so she'd gone after a hare instead. It was harder to catch the hair, but no stray hoof or horn could end her life from this skittish creature. Chicken Muffin could easily track the hare now that her teeth had drawn blood from it. Though she had to catch quickly, unless she wanted the snooping fox to run off with her prey. Chicken Muffin stopped, her fur bristling as the fox's scent crossed over the hare's path. "Stupid sniveling scavenger" She growled, her ferocious wolf voice spreading eerily out between the trees. The red and black wolf broke into a sprint, but felt in her gut that it was too late. She stopped where a pool of blood was sitting in the ground. Too late, the hare has been caught. Exasperated by all the wasted energy she'd spent, Chicken Muffin turned on her heel and stalked back into the main camp, making a beeline towards the night dens. "I hate foxes, that hare was mine" She mumbled to herself, glaring ahead at the swirling smoke. It was hard enough to hunt when smell brought in The-Burnt, and vision was poor and ever-deceiving. She entered the den, still grumbling under her breath and not paying attention to where she walked. Well of course she didn't see the wolf on the floor, and yelped very indignantly as she tripped over one of his body parts and fell head-first into the floor; a pile of withering limbs.

Zero jumped up, alerted, as a red and black wolf tripped over him and fell. He let out a breath he had been holding as he saw it was Chicken Muffin. "You okay?" He sat back down, looking at the other wolf with intent curiosity to see if she was okay. "Guess I shouldn't have been laying there..."

Ouch. She thought, as she rose, chuckling merrily to herself. Tripping over a packmate wasn't exactly the most popular form of cheering her up, but at least it had worked. Chicken Muffin turned her head towards Zero, fluffing up the fur around her neck. "Oops" She giggled, smiling warmly at the wolf she'd tripped over. He looked unhurt; all the more reason to laugh. "I'm fine, I just had a fox steal my catch" She growled the word 'fox', still not over the scavenger. "Maybe we should make all of you white, then people could see you better." Chicken Muffin joked, looking him up and down as if she was seriously considering how best to turn a wolf white. Saying 'Boo' could work... Maybe... No, even really old wolves only went a little bit grey, it would take more than a scare to turn a wolf white.

"Heh, then I wouldn't be able to sneak up on people so easily!" Zero joked, It wasn't common for him to make jokes, but it helped to keep his mind off the dream he had. It had been a while since he joked around with anyone,

Muffin pretended to shake her head in exasperation, failing miserably as she kept laughing whilst trying to act. "Dear me, you'll be lying about all over the place next!" Her tone shifted to something suitibly dramatic "And He Shall Stalk The Nights And Trip Innocents Into A Muddy Doom!" She bowed to an imaginary audience, gracefully accepting their cheers. Muffin hopped up to her feet, the earlier tiredness leaving as adrenaline seeped into her limbs.

Zero chuckled. "So, you've uncovered my evil plot, huh?" he joked again. It must've been a new record for him. Zero, normally the quite and close to expressionless, making two jokes in one day.

Sticking her head up high in what she assumed what a bold and defiant posture, Muffin bravely nodded. "And I will do all I can to stop you vile fiend!" She crouched down, stuck her ruff in the air and barked a challenge at Zero. Practically wiggling with the urge to jump, Muffin impatiently waited. It would be disasterous for her to go straight into a play fight just to find Zero took it the wrong way. Like that Orange wolf who had been exiled, though from all she'd seen from Orange, that wolf was probably trying to kill the neophyte it attacked. "En Guarde!" She added, in a growling voice, just for good measure.

The fur around Zero's neck bristled playfully. He barked back at her. He pranced forward enough to snap at the empty air next to her shoulder and jump back. He playfully growled back at her.

"You'll pay for that!" Muffin boomed, her voice tapering at the end as she ran out of breath. With a final wiggle (Which quite frankly didn't match the booming at all) she pushed herself forward, front paws going forward to swat at Zero's head, lips pulling back to show her teeth which was a customary gesture. And to top her pounce off nicely, she even growled a little.

Zero sidestepped out of the way and tapped her on the head playfully. He jumped back out of her range and pranced around her in a teasing way. He tried to growl, but it was easy to tell it was fake.

Muffin hit the ground with a grunt of surprise, then a self-depreciating 'Hmph'. She slowly rose up to her full height. Puffing her fur up. Through narrowed eyes, she watched Zero prance and planned her come back. Well, not so much planned. She just tensed and waited until she deemed the time right to exact her revenge. Preceded by a volley of coughing barks, Muffin pushed forward. It wasn't a jump, not really, more like a sudden sprint. Her aim was targetted on hitting Zero's side in a headbutt. Not the most elegant of attacks... Not the most elegant wolf.

Zero, surprised by the unusual attack, tried to jump to the side. He didn't get out of the way in time, and was hit on the shoulder. He lost his footing and toppled over. He quickly pulled himself up and tried to plan it out, but this was merely a play fight and couldn't take it seriously enough and was too excited. He faced her and mimicked her move, aiming for he shoulder where it wouldn't do much, if any, damage.

Muffin yipped happily when she hit, bouncing up and down like a puppy. Stupid to take so much with a meagre hit, maybe it was karma that made her get hit with the same attack she'd carried out. The yip turned into a slap-happy snarl as she crumpled backwards. Muffin sat down heavily to stop herself from going all the way and lying down on her back. Not wanting to get caught sitting, Muffin leapt back up, her tail standing up high. Making her best 'Ah My God! I can't believe that just happened' face, Muffin took a bite out of the air near Zero, and shimmied back, snarling some more. Tensing, Muffin dropped her front, and stuck her rump up in the air. For a real battle, all of her would be down.

Zero leaped back and let out a mock yelp as the she-wolf snapped at the air near his shoulder. He was about to retort, but his stomach growled and reminded him that he should go hunting. "I'm gonna go hunting, bye." Without waiting for a response, he trudged out of the Siverian camp.
