Raffa strode into Fireflight's den, his 15 moon old neophyte body swaying behind him. The wolf had a very bad reputation, pranking and not listening to any mentor assigned to him. Basically he was doomed to stay a neophyte until he buckled down and actually listened. Raffa had just done a terrible thing. He snuck a pup out of camp and almost got her killed by badgers. It was a freak thing, her discovering a nasty smelling hole and then a badger and a mate coming along with another badger. He had fought hard, killed the leader and the other two badgers had fled far. Now he was covered with blood and acompannyed by Shila, the pup he had taken out.
He was about to lie to Fireflight. Recently he had been confined to camp for slipping a maggot filled rabbit into this very den, and if he was caught sneaking out with a pup and endangering her, he could be in extremely bad trouble. Now Raffa thought he could lie well. Truth be told, he was horrible at it. He could lie without flinching, but he wasn't a good liar.
"Fireflight?"

The copper-eyed flame of a wolf was limping unsteadily from the herb healer den, her legs still thickly swathed with cobwebs. Fortunately, she was improving more and more each day. Soon enough, she would be able to shed the bandages altogether. Freakish oak tree incident forgotten, Fireflight is brand new and rearin' to go. As she crossed the camp, the shocking scent washed over her: blood. Fresh blood. Wolf blood, and something else that smelled suspiciously like badger. Two young wolves stood at the entrance to her den. With narrowed eyes, Fireflight stalked silently towards them, dismay and unhappiness climbing as she identified the twosome: Raffa, the mini-mafia of the Destinian pack compacted into singular neophyte form, and Shila, a young pup who should, by no means, be standing with Raffa. She came up behind them. "Raffa, I'd watch yourself. You're of age, I can kick you out of this pack in a snap if I wanted to," she hissed, furious. Her eyes were ablaze, like her namesake pelt. She eyed him through slits. "Exactly what happened?"

Shila wanted to stand strong without flinching but, standing before a leader was by all means practically impossible if you were a pup. Instinctively Shila cowered before her leader, submissively. She wasn't exactly sure why but she assumed it was because of Fireflights alpha status.
Shila was waiting for Raffa to say something and then she got out of her submission and stood before her leader though she had to look up since she was shorter than Fireflight.
"I am so sorry Fireflight. I was very very bored so when I saw this very pretty leaf, with red, yellow, orange, green and a splash of brown on it. I thought it looked so beautiful. The wind blew it out of camp and well.....I knew it was wrong to leave camp but this leaf was so beautiful I just wanted to play with it. I hesitantly left camp to go get the leaf but I didn't realize till when I found it I wandered to close to a badger sett and then three scary and hungry looking badgers came out of the whole and attacked me. Raffa followed me without me knowing, I guess he was going to stop me, I don't know. Anyway he saved me from the badger and then was injured and more badgers were coming at him. I felt as if it were all my fault and I didn't want to let him get killed because I have already lost my mother and I know I didn't kill her but I just feel somewhat responsible for it...."
By now Shilas eyes glinted with tears. She started speaking in a tighter, whining voice. This was actually the truth in some ways.
"I created a diversion for Raffa to let him get away back to camp....I ran from the badgers but attacked one only to be badly wounded by its claws. Raffa didn't leave and so he saved from the badgers that were distracted from him and he successfully killed them. And...and...he is my hero. And in some ways I am his too."
Shila looked to Raffa, then Fireflight. Her gaze then traveled to her paws and Shila slowly exhaled a small whimper. She wasn't whimpering from guilt but from fear. Shila remembered the badgers almost about kill Raffa. She also remembered her mother too, whom she missed dearly. Shila almost forgot she was in the presence of her leader.

Raffa started to curl his lip at Fireflight, but quickly stopped. Kicking him out of the clan would be a bad...and good idea. He licked his lips and sat, curling his paw around Shila to move him closer to him protectively. He wanted to whisper in her ear but stopped and instead talked to Fireflight.
"Would you really like to kick me out?"
The question was innocent, but there was a hint of I'll-go-if-you-want-me-to in it. Taking of lick of blood he snuffled and waited. Fireflight asked them what happened. Just as Raffa was about to open his mouth and lie, Shila started to. Ugh...I hope she doesn't mess up. He listened to the whole thing, looking earnestly at Fireflight the whole time. Suddenly Shila whimpered and her fear was evident. The scent was choking him and he wanted to run, but stood, paws glued to the ground. He looked to her and caringly spoke, trying to cover up.
"I know it was scary, but your okay...the badgers are gone."
After that, he turned to face Fireflight.
"So ya-see, it wasn't either of our faults. Shila was chasing a pretty leaf...she wasn't aware of her surroundings. I went out to save her."
He smiled cheekily and winked, then waited, holding his fear scent in and wanting to just admit he did something wrong instead and taking the punishment or blaming it on the little pup next to him.

During the pups long speech, too decorated for a pup to come up with all in one moment, Fireflight's gaze never swerved from its glare at Raffa. "Shila, please go and see the healers, they'll give you something to calm you. And, forgive me young one, but I meant to ask Raffa what happened," She smiled warmly at the pup, finally blinking away from the neophyte to assure Shila. The smile did not touch her eyes, which were calm pools of neutrality towards Shila. She could whip out the anger again when she turned back to Raffa... "Run along, dear." She whirled back to Raffa. "I asked you what happened. You didn't answer my question, therefore I see it as my right to discard yours."

Shila nodded without hesitation and give a quick but sly glance to Raffa. Shila wondered if her story was good enough, if Raffa told the story Fireflight would surely give him an ear full. Shila padded out of the den and didn't do exactly as Fireflght had ordered she wanted to hear what they had to say and she was old enough to understand what they said. She laid down and began to groom her wounds and keep an ear open to the conversation.

Raffa flashed his fangs absent-mindly, feeling uncomfortable and wary of the alpha's glare. He felt it burning his pelt and he squinted and ducked. It wasn't fun lying he finally realized, no matter what the consequenses would be. When Fireflight showed so much...niceness to Shila, Raffa wanted to scream "What the heck?! What about me?! If I told you that you'd cuff me and do something horrible!" but he didn't. She shooed Shila away and the fear scent went with her thankfully.
That still didn't solve Raffa's problem.
When Fireflight asked him to tell the story, his paws scuffed the ground nervously. He was choking inside, trying to figure out what Shila had said. Blanking out would cause him his dignity and something else and he bit his lip. Holding her gaze, he stammered out, very clear that he was unsure of himself.
"W-why don't you b-believe Shila? Nevermind...I'll tell you. I was sitting in...uh...camp yeah! So anyway I see her running around with a leaf so I go over to play with it...wait....yeah yeah...so anyway I chase it out of the camp and she follows me...and then these badgers attack and um...she saves me...wait! I mean I save her...and then they go away...and we came back...yeah thats right!"
Looking up at Fireflight, Raffa wanted to throw up. He slowly began to back away to the entrance, but stopped and pretended he was just stretching his legs.

Something else crept into the alpha's gaze as she watched Raffa struggle to order his words and phrases. She sighed heavily, looking at him with sadness now, any maybe even regret? "Raffa, what did you do?" she asked, ignoring his attempt at explanation. "You're covered in blood," she reminded him. "There's something that you're hiding, and you know I'll figure it out sooner or later. So I'd rather you come clean to me so I can sentence you something light and maybe you'll learn something from it than have to do something more severe for your keeping secrets from your family," her words were light, reassuring. She eyed him with sincerity. She knew Raffa was a trouble-maker, but Fireflight could never bring herself to believe that someone was completely, skin and bones and everything in between, evil and malicious. Even Verlust -- she'd had feeling once, when she'd led Blood Mist, hadn't she? It couldn't be too late for Raffa. He was a far cry from as mad as Verlust or others had been and had became.

Shila worried intensly when she heard Raffa used panic in his scattered words. She was about to go back into the den herself and come clean, but she held her ground patiently hoping Raffa would turn this situation around and convince Fireflight. That hope was gone when Fireflight already said she didn't believe him. Shila tensed her muscles she wanted to go back and help out Raffa. If Raffa was going to get in trouble she might as well too since she was old enough to know better.
All fear aside Shila got up and went back in to face Fireflight. She sat before her leader and didn't cower. Shila shot an apology glance to Raffa and then looked back to Fireflight with a calm expression.
"I am sorry for disobeying you, Fireflight, but I don't exactly think Raffa is going to tell the truth exactly right I could hear his panicky voice all the way out side this den. I know I am just a pup, but I am almost the age to be a neophyte. I think I am old enough to say the truth and make my own descisions, and if anyone really has to get in trouble it really should be me. So the truth...."
Shila again glanced back at Raffa and then turned back to Fireflight. She wasn't going to lie again. That was hard the first time around.
"Raffa came in the Nursery ranting about his punishment. I was bored and had no one to talk to so I talked to Raffa. I asked Raffa what was wrong and he said he didn't like being a neophyte, and I said it looks way much more fun then.....well maybe I should get to the point...Well Raffa asked me if I wanted to learn some stuff about being a neophyte and to do that we could go out of camp. I knew I wasn't suppose to, and I honestly wanted to say no, but I was so bored and didn't have anyone to play with and I wanted some adventure so I said yes. We went out of camp and I had so much fun chasing a squirrel then I smelt the badgers and thats how we got these wounds......I know Raffa was suppose to say this, but it honestly isn't his fault, Fireflight.......its mine. If I said no this whole thing would have never happened so anyone who should be punished it should be.....me."
Shila put on a fake guilty look, because she wasn't going to admit that it wasn't fun. She truly did have quite an adventure out there with Raffa and she wanted to fight and explore more. Though she wondered what Fireflight was thinking about this now. Shila hoped she wasn't going to be mad, but she braced herself for it anyway. The badgers were terrifying but because of them they helped her discover her feirce side, or to be phrased better, her courage.

As Fireflight spoke, a wash of something Raffa didn't experience much ran over him. Guilt. It tingled down his spine and he squinted, trying to wonder how else he could keep from blowing his secret. Finally he stepped forward, head lowered and looked down at his paws. He opened his mouth to confess when Shila came in again.
As she spoke she mentioned Raffa asking her to go out of camp and he winced, wondering what kind of punishment he was going to get because he was making a pup confess for himself and how he had disobeyed Fireflight directly. He shook his head and a pained look crossed his face as he looked up at her.
"I was about to say that ya know...Whats my punishment? Lemme guess though...hmmm...stay in camp for a moon. No more gatherings...nothing. I'll be grounded FOREVER."
He groaned and lay down, head on his paws.

Fireflight sighed softly, disappointment flickering in her gaze before she flicked her tail. "In that case, Shila, I think it's time you've gone back to the nursery. You know the rules as well as I do -- your neophyte ceremony will be put off another moon because of your little respect for them. Raffa..." she hesitated, debating. I could do absolutely nothing. But he's not the type that would torture; it would only make him even more wreckless... I could ask him to leave. But he's not a lost cause. Not yet, at least. "Raffa, because you showed little judegement and did not act as a seasoned neophyte as yourself should, I am stripping you of your neophyte title for the next moon. For the next moon, you are closer in status to a pup than a neophyte. You will sleep in the seniors' den and aid Kiki and Silas with whatever they need done. Furthermore, you're not to leave camp, and if Kiki and Silas can't find a job for you, then I will."

Fireflight's words stung Raffa and he looked up, eyes great round orbs of disbelief. He stuttered and stuttered, trying to get a curse out but could not. His fangs flashed and he bit down hard on his lip, causing blood to trickle down his mouth. Turning to Shila, he woofed.
"Shila...you can go now...I have some things to say."
He waited for a while to be sure that nobody else was in the den and then turned to Fireflight, breathing heavily and pawing the ground.
"No way...you think I'm worthless...yeah thats it! You know that I listen to nobody and I'm supposed to be warrior material! YOU KNOW THAT! Just because I-...nevermind. But still! WHY!?!"
He was almost at the point of attacking, his eyes were slits of anger and the blood on his lip glistened in his snarl. He let a string of curses out and bared his fangs out of habit.
"YOU'LL NEVER UNDERSTAND!"
He was screaming now and was at the point of wishing Fireflight was dead, watching the blood streaming out of her neck as she lay there. He hated the pack, he wanted to leave. He would plan his escape soon. He stood levelly, eyes looking into Fireflight's and fangs still bared as he growled with anger.

Fireflight's sadness only deepened as she looked at him steadily as his outburst heightened. She sighed softly, shaking her head as the accusations poured forth. "Raffa, look at me. Tell me, do you honestly, deeply believe I think you're worthless? If I did, I would have exiled you. You might not want to hear or believe it, but the facts are cold, hard, and true. Sooner or later, I'm hoping you find out that we're not all out to get you. You are skilled in fighting techniques and hunting and other warrior duties....but emotionally, you need to find a state of peace. You need to understand exactly why we are a pack, we are your family. And family's don't let each other go, even at their worst moments. Hear me?" Her words grew strong and sharp now, not irritated, but desperate to somehow reach the headstrong youngling. Oh, dear....where did it start? He didn't get this way all by himself...

((I'm almost positive that Raffa is going to be the Destinian traitor gaurd to the dictator...*cough*...are the gaurds going to stay in the pack or leave? I can RP this accordingly if I know the answer.))
Raffa's black pelt rippled as his ears swivveled forward and back. He listened to Fireflight with little care...the words meant nothing to him. He had been born in a family...had been the baby of the family...then it was all stripped away and he ran...he ran away to the pack. The pack was a place he lived in only for protection, food, and shelter.
They were no family. Almost every Warrior hated him because he wouldn't listen and he wasn't going to start to listen now. He was going to leave camp and if he got exiled, who cared? Raffa always wanted to leave...his time was coming soon.
"No...the pack isn't my family. It has never been. I have no friends, no family, and nothing. I know my destiny...it just hasn't been revealed."

Fireflight shook her head again. "Raffa, did you ever take a second of your time to think maybe your lack of friendships here is because you're nasty to everyone who tries? Kind of like you're being to me right now?" She threw back at him. She wasn't irritated exactly, or even weary or wary. Nor was she bickering -- Fireflight was above arguing with a neophyte-gone-bad. She was making a sharp-pointed corner. One that she hoped would make Raffa turn and see himself with slightly deeper clarity than he did in the present tense.
(( Well, because the wolves are trying to kidnap wolves from the packs, so Raffa will have to hang in here for at least a little while. Maybe once the plot gets more developed, Raffa will take up a permanent residence with the Blood Misties, but for now, the guards will be needed in the packs. Ohhh and I have a sub-plot idea that might interest you -- PM me =D ))
