Mist shifted overhead, trees stood tall and close together for miles but for a single clearing, and in the middle of this clearing, resting on a tall rock of gray stone jutting from the ground, was Death.
He stood tall, silhouette falling behind him accordingly as he watched the faint hint of sunlight through the canopy, eyes foggy and paled. He twitched now and then, but otherwise remained statuesque, looking up above him at the edges of existence. Edges....edges, how far can they be pushed, where do they bend, where do they break? He looked below him now, Twilight Sight of the living realm below turning the grass in front of him into a wide display of the valley below. His eyes gazed intently at the image, focusing in towards the Twilight Clearing. Is the line between the dead and the living so thin as a transparent barrier?
He let the images fade and focused on the underbrush now, creasing his brow. He, along with his sister, Flame, were the holders of Hellfire. Before that, he had been the icon and definition of megalomaniac and insane psychopathic murderer. He'd been on the verge of taking over the heart of wolven essence. And Flame, before, had been a brave, daring, bold neophyte, soon to be a lupus proeliator. They were different now.....death had changed them. Or maybe dying changed us. We were....we were one in the last moments of our lives as we fell into the Mirror Lake.... He stepped down from the rock and paced, shaking his head and murmuring anicient curses. We're the holders of Hell.... He closed his eyes, pictures of the fighting Hellfirians and packwolves burned into his lids. ....what if we dropped it?
Do it, Death. Follow your senses. Do it. He leaned back, a ghostly howl ringing into the sky -- a summoning call. A call to his sister, Flame.... ...I hope nobody else hears this....

Even in the paranormal haze of the Twilight Realm, the femmora’s pelt burned a vivid scarlet, and her twin golden orbs lost none of their luster. Her pace was brisk, and there were long gaps between where she had stood and where she had stepped. But there was a typical smile on her maw—not an eerie or suspicious grin, and not incredibly happy either. But it was the smile of a content wolf, and it was only when a familiar ethereal howl reached her ears did her lips spread to reveal an expression of genuine delight. With all this joy and geniality, you would never guess that she was one of the gatekeepers to a lupine Hell. Recognizing the call as a summoning, Flame bounded toward the direction of the sound, lifting her muzzle to release a returning song. Her voice was fluent and melodious, but had a certain pitch that distinguished her voice from many others. Death would hear her, she knew. I’m coming. Finally slowing to a halt, Flame casually strolled up to the figure in front of her. “What’s up, bro? Something wrong?”

Death's pacing finally came to a cease, and, ears pricked to receive Flame's return call, he stopped and turned to wait for her in the direction of the sound. Her arrival was brisk, and as she emerged through the trees, he smiled in spite of the situation, in spite of the momentous action he was about to propose to her. She wore a wie grin herself. It had been a while since he'd talked with his sister -- and he suddenly felt the lonliness of it. I didn't talk to her as much as I should have about the whole Slash thing and Frozzen heart and ugh-- Lady problems later. Apocalypse, please!
He tilted his head at her question. Then, smile fading, he nodded to the ground, and again, the pictures of the battle below appeared. "I haven't tried to go into Hellfire since the release....but I've been talking to other wolves since, trying to figure out if this is some sort of old the-world-is-doomed sort of deal....I've gotten nothing out of anyone. But....I don't think it's a good idea to go into Hellfire. If they came out.....you and I are not meant to see the world as living beings. It wouldn't surprise me if we just disintegrated instead of getting spat out. I mean... I'm not saying the Hellfirians were supposed to live again....but we don't fit so well into Hellfire," he woofed, musing as he spoke. "I.....I want to try something that is potentially dangerous, though maybe not so much as going into Hellfire.....if any of the Hellfirians find out.....we can't let them. If they saw you or I again.....there's no way we would get back here....ever. I don't want to do this alone....and I don't think we would get formal permission from the other deceased....sis.....I need you with me on this." He looked at her long and hard, gaze both sparking with anticipation and slightly wary of whay laid ahead. Golden Wolf, somebody, anybody -- heck, Verlust -- if there is divinity in this universe, let this work.... "I think we should return, temporarily, to the living realm in the form of specters."

Flame settled herself beside her brother, perking her ears to emphasize the fact that she was listening to every word. She wanted to confess that she had missed him since they last met, and that she wanted to catch up and have a good laugh like they used to… but this was no time, and no place. From the moment Death began to speak, she recognized that the tone was serious, and that it was no time for casual conversation. As her brother continued on, Flame’s smile faded, but her curiosity amplified. Then, at last, Death had reached his suggestion. Flame gawked at him for a second—a fairly normal response to the suggestion that a dead wolf return to the realm of the living—but soon found the ability to close her jaws. There was a silence for a moment, her mind slipping into a train of thought. Then, without any hint of hesitation, Flame began nodding firmly. “Alright. Want to go now, or soon? I mean, assuming we have at least a small idea of what we're going to do when we get down there.” It was sudden, but Flame saw that Death was going to try and fix things. The last thing she wanted was for him to have to do everything on his own. We’re siblings, for GoldenWolf’s sake!

Grinning, Death's eyes gleamed with the feeling of adventure that now washed over him. At last, we're doing something, instead of watching up here like a pack of useless wombats! We're helping, we're doing......we're doing what the GoldenWolf should've done. Everyone complains about him....but the idiots (Lupus included) aren't any better. Sit on their bets, way up high, doing nothing, nothing, nothing. We're....we're something new. "Maybe we can find out more what the Hellfirians are -- I mean, they're in the realm of the living....but maybe that doesn't mean they're alive? I don't know....I don't know anything, really. I think this is the first time something like this has been done...." his smile still didn't fade. "Hell, we've given this world a ton of firsts, what's one more, right? I'm ready when you are. It's best if we go quick, though....I don't know if anybody else heard that call....and I've been kinda distant with Rhain and Lupus lately....I don't know if they'll come looking, but if they heard me.....it wouldn't surprise me." Aw gawd. Rhain would probably flood us to death, Lupus would put us in straightjackets....then they'd get help, wolves to stalk and separate us 24/7.....
About a mile away, a she-wolf stirred from her warm den, the rock cave coated with serene, curling vines. She padded out into the open, watching the tall grasses sway, peering curiously at the tall forest that rimmed the outside of the wide grassy plain. Tilting her head, her ears caught a familiar howl on the wind, though she couldn't quite name the wolf who'd sounded. She turned, looking around for her dark-pelted mate in the greenery. "Lupus? Did you hear that?" Rhain called.

“So, in other words, we’re winging it?” she replied with a laugh. Flexing her forepaws to lengthen the gap between her toes, Flame shook herself with vigorous enthusiasm, already contemplating the journey ahead. “Hey, I’m always ready. And now that you mention it, I think we’d better go now, before security comes along. And not just Dad and Rhain—if anyone learns what we’re up to, the operation is dead. Life’s too good and dull up here… if anything remotely interesting got leaked out, the entire realm would be on fire!” She rolled her eyes at her last statement. Although Lupus and Rhain would mean even more trouble than most...
Tranquility. Rest. The cerulean haze that shrouded his view. It was a beautiful dream—really, it was not actually a dream at all. No painful memories, no nightmares. Only the peace and quiet of a nice, long— Grumbling a little, Lupus snapped his eyes into awareness, having been roused by the delicate chiming of his mate’s voice. Rolling onto his stomach in a semi-stretch, the ebony brute dragged himself to a stand. Rhain sounded rather concerned, which mildly disturbed Lupus, and he quickly reached her side. “What?” He tilted his ears to the wind, and the last dribbles of sound fondled his ear drums. He closed his eyes in realization, yawning as he did so. “Can’t really tell, but it sounds familiar,” he murmured after ceasing his yawn. “…sounds like it’s calling someone…” A drowsy haze still clouded his senses, leaving Lupus unable to accurately recognize the voice. “Sounds like a male… maybe he needs help?”

Death dipped his head reluctantly, heart rate starting to quicken, though he couldn't place the reason. "I don't think any wolf will follow us....because Lupus is about the only one who would probably think of the means of doing it......like I said....er...not completely sure..." his eyes were slightly panicked now, red veins spiderwebbing through them. "I figured we would have to do a ceremony similar to Blood Mist fashion if we were going to acheive something close to their state. if we just go down there.....Lupus or someone is going to pull us back up, and I don't know how long we can stay in a visiting format.....so.....we need earth, fire, water, air, and lupine.....we're the lupines, the fire will be no problem.....earth....we can dig into the ground....water.....air....." He looked around wildly, tail twitching in agitation. He mumbled words beneath his breath, eyes ripping through the scenery in pursuit-- "There -- there's a tall rocky outcrop maybe a mile from here, a stream trickles down from it. I don't know how we'd figure earth up there but---" He froze, eyes wide. "I think we're being tracked."
Rhain nodded absently. "It's someone we know....but someone who hasn't called like that for a long time.....we should we meet them?" she turned to Lupus. Inwardly, she had already decided to track the call, but Lupus may not be as eager. I'll be fine on my own, too. I mean, it's the Twilight Realm. Can't be anything serious, can it...?

“Tall and rocky outcrop, eh? Sounds like we’ve got our water, and, if GoldenWolf is willing, maybe we’ll get a breeze for our ‘air’. In any case though, I’m getting a bad feeling myself,” she flattened her ears closer to her skull, “and we should probably get moving… fast. And if we are being tracked, then, well, there’s all the more reason to get going.” Glancing over her shoulder, Flame started in the direction of the outcrop, her pace slow while she waited for her brother to join her. I can only hope that Dad and Rhain are asleep somewhere…
Rotating his shoulders to decrease his stiffness, Lupus managed a curt nod. “Erm, sure… yeah, I’ll come with you.” Might as well. I already woke up, didn’t I? “Hopefully it’s nothing too serious, though.” Serious? As if anything remotely dangerous ever happens up here… actually, I take that back. Rhain and I always seem to debunk that statement.

Behind a tree, a young pup with eyes wide listened intently, clinging to each and every word that passed between the siblings. He gasped audibly, then threw a paw across his mouth. They'll hear me! But Rhain or Lupus or somebody has to find out.....I'll run! Narrowing his forever young eyes, he lunged forth into the forest and pelted fast across its expanse. I have to stop them!
Death's momentary panic attack was broken as a blur smeared across the forest, a wolven figure. He swallowed hard and nodded gravely to Flame. "Okay....let's go..." was all he could think to say. He started off after Flame, running alongside her. Even in a moment of panic, it was something both odd and pleasing that he wasn't alone. It was strange, to think he'd been so social to be part of a pack, even if that pack was Blood Mist. He'd grown so solitary... He gave himself a rough shake and plowed on, paws working at a speed that might've burned holes in his paws if he weren't already in tune with fire.
A young, troubled wolf darted across the open grass as Rhain took her first steps closer to the forest. He stopped her short, gasping for air, and alarm entered her gaze. "Silentfire? What is it?" she asked the pup. After his murder as a young Siverian, and his mother's killing in the same night, she'd helped Rippedstripe watch over the young pup. She'd kept in touch with him and Rippedstripe, but was surprised to see him in such a state. "Rhain....Lupus....I heard....I heard Death," he inhaled deeply, trying to breath normal again, "I was in the forest and I heard wolves coming so I went behind a tree just until I knew who it was...and it was Death, and he called Flame. They said something about a ceremony or ritual....they said they wouldn't be able to get permission, so they were doing it themselves, right now, as quickly as possible. They mentioned elements....then decided to do it at that rocky outcrop over there," he flicked his tail to the direction mentioned, and Rhain looked slowly towards Lupus, a bit taken aback. Silentfire persisted, upset at her lack of realization. "They said something about spectacles! They want to go back to earth as spectacles!" He stressed. Rhain's brow raised, her mouth hung agape. "Specters?" she mouthed, voice a bit faint. "They want to go back to earth as specters? They've switched sides on us?!" Outrage joined the shock now, Rhain's tail twitching with intense agitation. "Thank you, Silentfire....you should go home now...don't tell anyone else about what you saw until we've got it under control, okay? We don't need any panic..." Death and Flame.....they're against us?

((roflmao—“spectacles!” XDXD That made my day! ))
There was a more frantic nature to their run, but Flame remained comforted by the fact that her brother was at her side. While they had been rivals in their original length of existence, they were now caring siblings—and, if all went well, they would return to the earth as companions and allies. Almost overcomes the fear of being followed… almost. A weight tumbled in her stomach, and she willed her legs to move faster. She could see their destination up ahead.
Gradually easing into a more alert state, Lupus followed just behind Rhain at a comfortable pace. But they were soon interrupted in their search when a young pup burst onto the scene. While he initially opened hi jaws to dismiss the pup (there were more urgent matters at hand), the words that Silentfire began to voice only brought the brute further to astonishment. “They what!?” He would have said more, but Rhain had already formed the words that instantly clouded his mind. Specters? Traitors? How could they!? “We need to find them,” he muttered quickly, glancing towards Rhain, “and separate them if possible. Come on—no time to lose!” Now fully roused from his drowsy state, Lupus took off in the direction of the outcrop that Silentfire had described.

(( xD I couldn't resist ))
"Good, we're here...." Lightning excentuated his words. "Crap, they know..." his voice was weak, panicked, his eyes darting wildly around. They were at the banks of the stream now, the cool water rough and splashing from the wind-- Wind! We have wind.....but Rhain knows. That means Lupus knows. "Okay....we need earth. Is there a tree, or grass or plant or something right by the river?" He scanned the banks, sending a thousand and one pleas for someone to help them. We're in heaven, who else is going to fricken help us? This has to work, this has to work.... "Help me look -- if we find something....we can set it on fire and the wind will stir up the water so it sprays it. I don't know if we have to say anything....like an incantation? Aw, Golden Wolf what have I done..."
Rhain streaked across the grasses, catching up with her mate, running as fast as her paws would take her. She could hear her heart thumping thunderously in her ears. Thunder... Her agitation cued the rumble over head, and a sharp breeze blew over the realm, reminiscent of winter days. At a time like this, it wasn't something she could really hold in. "Lupus....what would drive them to this?" She asked, her mind racking for an answer. It didn't make sense. One minute Death and Flame had been fine...sure, Death had his Hitler stage, but they'd gotten past that. And Flame had never been anything but honest... "Why now? Do they want to live again so bad that they're willing to do something tyrannical?" She was asking herself as much as she was asking Lupus.

When the wind first began to pick up, Flame was praising all the divine forces she could name for presenting them with the element of air. But just as quickly, the sky was dotted with clouds and a storm stirred on the horizon. Now, Flame was cursing all the higher powers she could think of, and realized that Rhain and Lupus were on their trail, and they were not pleased. “Erm, I don’t know—I’ve never done this before. Um… make up an incantation or something. I’ll find us a plant… hopefully before mister and missus interference arrive.” Racing up the stone faces, Flame peered over a few edges, searching for vegetation somewhere near the stream. Tilting her ears, she knew all too well that they were running out of time, and there were no second chances.
Hearing the rage of Rhain’s emotions snarling overhead, Lupus swiveled his ears in response to her inquiry. “I was wondering the same thing… I don’t know. The only thing I’m relatively sure of is that it can’t be anything good. I mean, why else keep it a secret? Wait, are they over there?” He squinted at the stone figures in the distance. There was still a large gap to be filled between them and the outcrop, but they were coming closer with every second that ticked by.
“Hey, I found something!” Flame found a plot of flora sprouting a ways up the river banks. Mostly weeds, but a few roses sprouted here and there. How ironic she thought, wrenching a rose from the earth with her fangs. Ignoring the stinging of thorns, she raced back to her brother to drop her finding at his paws. “Will this work? There's more down that way.”

Death nodded, freezing his motion and squeezing his eyes shut tight. Okay, Mr. Creation, if you ever, even fleetingly danced over the thought of making me poetical....give me something now, please. Anything...
A darkness is coming, sinister and wild, The earth held in the paws of one small child, Death, he will be named; the wolf who cannot be tamed, He and his enemy are the same, Flame, she will be named; a wolf who's been drenched in pain, Rip, Tear, Slash, Kill, these wolves will fulfill Death's will, Burn, Ember, Silenthowl, Light, these wolves will fight for the right, The sky will burn; a crimson night, Where the wolves will stand for their last fight---
"No, we're not doing that again....just a simple enchantment...nothing dramatic like that...."
Earth, bind us, Wind, power us, Water, drive us, Fire, make us.
"Not the best....but it will have to do...so much for being a poet,...but, er, thanks anyway, poetical deity!" He turned to see Flame rushing towards him, a rose grasped in her jaws. "I hope so," he answered her. It's part of the earth, it should work.... "Okay...it's by the water, the wind's tossing it onto the earth....and now we make fire." He smiled wide now, eyes glittering. "I'll let you have the honors. Send up the flames, and I'll say the incantation...and we'll blow this dump."
Rhain nodded to Lupus' words, then caught sight of the two figures in the distance. "I think that's them," she agreed gravely. "All right...intervention time, I suppose....for the love of all that's holy, please don't let this be an actual fight...." Her stomach turned over uncomfortable. The heavens, at war with themselves...

((Death’s poeticism pwns all XD & shame on him for trying to recycle—I got a good laugh out of it, though )) Nodding, the scarlet she-wolf gently rested the rose on the ground (positioning it so that it’s petals would face the sky) and took a small step back. At her brother’s command, a delighted spark twinkled in the corner of her eye. “My pleasure.” This will be the easy part! she decided, closing her eyes a moment to concentrate. Almost as quickly as she had cut off her vision to the world, a small flame flickered forth. Withdrawing her lids to reveal her hazel orbs once again, she watched the controlled flame dance at her will, swirling in the breeze. Behaving more like an animal than an element, the embers crept experimentally around the rose before devouring it in a ravenous blaze. “Hope this works,” Flame muttered, glancing worriedly toward her brother, but feigning a bit of confidence as she continued. “Alright then—give it your best shot, Death!” Mostly, she was worried about Lupus and Rhain interrupting. They were so close to returning to the living realm, but the pair was obviously on their trail, and it would be hell to pay if they were caught like this… no pun intended. Lupus cast an anxious glance toward Rhain, murmuring words of agreement. “That’ll be our last resort, but we’ll have to use a little force to get them to listen. Especially if they’re—” He paused, eyes widening as they came ever closer to the line of stones. A trail of smoke inked out into the sky just up ahead; it was the signature of a fire. “It looks like whatever they’re up to is happening now!” Lupus growled, short of breath due to the quick pace. They were minutes away now, he judged, and giving no indication of stopping. Flame glanced toward the sky, and then back the way they had came. She barely managed to contain a yelp of discomfort when she noticed two silhouettes speeding toward them. She didn’t need to distinguish their distinct features; she knew in her gut that Lupus and Rhain were the shapes riding steadily to their location. “Umm… you may want to hurry, too, ‘cause it looks like we have company!”

Rhain's eyes bugged out, her heart rate thundering like it was on ecstasy. The wind picked up with her newfound raging speed, giving the water more air, the flame more oxygen. Death took a small peek over his shoulder -- a nearly lethal mistake -- than whipped back around to their elemental array. The words spewed from him like he was leaking. "EarthbindusWindpowerusWaterdriveusFireMAKEUS!"
Rhain raced forth, taking a flying leap to pin Death, but was repelled by a sudden ring of light that expanded outward from Death and Flame. She snarled venemously at the two. "Whatever you're doing, I'd advise you to stop NOW."
"Stop?! Hell, woman, we don't know what we're doing! Sorry if I'm sinkin' your ship, here, but we can't stop! This is for you're own good -- now, if you would be so kind as to shut up, it would be much appreciated. Thank us when we get back!" Death countered, his wit retained and safely back in its place with the rush of relief that poured over him. "Okay....I think you need to say something, too, Sis. I'll take over the Flame while you do it -- maybe that'll make it more binding or something." We're so close.... He blinked up in awe at the discs of color that orbited around them, then down at his paws, to see them a few inches off of the swaying grass. Inhaling deeply, he closed his eyes, and greeting the fire like a human would their dog.
