A L E Dwe're all mad here •━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━• •━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━•
He was running.
Why was he always running? Because someone wanted him dead. Why did someone always want him dead? Because he was alive. For as long as his life continued, someone would try to end it. True, his life was unfair. But true as well, he clung to it for it was the last thing he had left in the forsaken world he occupied. The world that no one else wanted him to occupy.
The gray and black pup was being chased, but he wasn't sure by whom or what. It didn't really matter who they were. They wanted to hurt him. Though that wasn't a new development for his dreams. Chancing a glance behind him, he saw an orange figure racing right behind him. He should have seen that coming. Panic rose up in him and for a moment he reveled in the familiarity before claws slashed at his hind quarters and he sped up. He knew he wouldn't catch him. He never did, but something bad would happen. Something bad always happened and once again, he reveled in the familiar sensation.
It sickened him a little, to enjoy the feelings of panic and fear and horror, but they were familiar and didn't change and they were all he had to cling to. He could no longer imagine his life without these horrific dreams or even imagine having a happy dream. That would be too different and he would never feel safe, always sure something would go terribly wrong.
He felt himself growing tired and knew if he didn't find shelter soon he'd be torn to bits. Then, a black figure appeared before him and he felt hope rise in his chest and travel though his body, up into his throat and out his mouth in a joyous cry of:
"Momma!"
The word seemed to cause the figure to fade away into the dark plane he was still running on. He didn't look back, now focused on his destination. Filled with new energy, the little brute sped up even more until he reached the black fur that he knew to be the only being that had ever tried to take care of him and do what was best for him even if it was a misguided and wrong choice. He wasn't sure there would have been a right choice in dealing with him anyway. But something was wrong. His mother was cold and, like many dreams before, there was no sign of life. He felt something seep into his fur and he pulled away. His mother's body fell to the ground, bloody and ruined. Her blood now stained his fur as he gaped in horror at the all-too familiar sight. Scratches gashed open her flesh all over. Her mouth was ripped open in a horrific, silent scream. Her eyes bulged out and burned into his through their dead glaze. Her limbs were twisted in a shadow of the pain she had felt before she died. The fatal blow was a horrible gash splitting her throat just below her chin. Dark blood still oozed from the wound. He could feel some of this blood slithering across his skin and matting his fur from his forehead to his front paws, from neck to shoulders. He could hear the echo of his mother's screaming as the thick blood slid down his nose and crawled down his trembling legs. But it wasn't his mother's voice that was screaming. It was his. His throat lamented his sorrow and terror and horror of its own accord. His eyes had become painfully wide and he was forced to turn away and swipe off another drop of blood that threatened his eyes.
He heard laughing, but it came from no one. They continued to laugh as suddenly the ground disappeared from under him and he was sucked down into a black hole. Invisible claws raked at his coat and pulled him down. He felt like he was suffocating and gasped for air. Just as he thought he would pass out, it stopped.
He landed hard and looked around in confusion for a moment before realizing he was in a den.
"Not again," he moaned to himself. He looked around for Zai but did not see him. Something orange in the corner caught his eye, but when he looked over, he found it was only Cheryl.
Cheryl was whimpering and thrashing in her sleep, apparently having some sort of nightmare. He wasn't the only one. He knew better than to go over there, but he didn't like seeing Cheryl in distress and if the pup kept thrashing like that she ran the risk of hurting her fragile body.
Suddenly, the little she-pup's eyes flew open and she cried the phrase he'd had so many times before. "Momma? Momma! Where are you?"
He knew better than to go over there. He shouldn't go over there. It would only bring him pain if he went. But his body worked without him and his legs carried him across the den. He tried desperately to stop himself, ordering his paws to stop, but he knew they wouldn't and they didn't.
"It's ok, Cher. He'll be back. Zai only went out for a little while, he'll be right back," he said, terror setting into his heart and freezing him from the inside. He wasn't supposed to be near the she-pup and he definitely wasn't supposed to talk to her, but again he couldn't stop himself. It was as if someone else was controlling his body and forcing him to watch the damage they were doing.
Cheryl turned to the red-eyed pup and his eyes calmed instantly. "Brother, why do you call our father 'Zai' instead of 'papa' anymore?" she asked.
The pup stiffened, glancing around to make sure Zai wasn't back yet. "He's not my father, Cher, and I'm not your brother," he said slowly.
"But you called him 'papa' once."
"Well that was wrong of me to do and I'm never going to make that mistake again."
"That's right," a scratchy voice growled from behind the two puppies.
He didn't want to turn around, but he didn't have to. A heavy paw slammed into his side and sent him crashing to the ground. He barely had enough wits about him to pull himself back up.
"Get away from my daughter, you monster!" Zai screamed.
He nodded and tried desperately to run away, far away, but now he couldn't move his paws. Looking down he realized the den floor around him had become mud and was sucking him down into it. His paws were completely captured and he did not have the strength to pull them out.
"I said MOVE!" The orange tom shouted, striking his head and making him dizzy.
"I can't!" he nearly sobbed as he felt the mud slowly creeping up his legs and lapping hungrily at his soft underbelly, eagerly tasting its meal. He didn't know whether to cry in terror or try to lash out back at Zai, but the mud swallowing his body had also swallowed up his courage and he trembled, breathing heavily.
"Fine then. You want to stay there? I'll make you stay there forever!" Zai laughed and used his paw to smash the brute's face into the mud.
He flew into panic, struggling to free his head before the mud could seep into his nostrils and open mouth and into his lungs. In a frenzy, he freed his head with black mud still clinging to his face. He heard Zai laugh and barely managed to get a breath in before he forced him down again. This time he kept his paw on his head so he could not have a chance at freeing himself. The mud climbed his shoulders and sides, captured his tail, and yanked at his back. He felt the bottoms of his ears come into contact with the ooze and felt as if his whiskers were being pulled out. Zai's paw moved but he couldn't pull himself free anymore. He wanted to scream but he couldn't move his mouth. The mud brightened and darkened and brightened again, becoming a sickening dark red color. The color over took his vision, as the blood seeped out of his left eye once again. Then it all faded to black.
Aled jolted awake, panting and sweating. He couldn't see, which meant that he was back in reality. He could feel bits of moss and leaves clinging to his mix of grays fur, a sure sign that he had torn apart his bedding again. The grayish brute clenched his yellowing teeth, "Tch. A wolf my age, having nightmares as if he's just come from the womb!" Yawning, he stood up, pieces of what was left of his nest dropping to the floor of the grassy meadow. He stretched, not bothering to groom his fur or pick out the remaining debris. I'll clean up later. He decided. The lone wolf sniffed around the are he'd slept in, searching for honey. He always kept his own stash of honey and non-medical berries with him wherever he went.
He felt a sticky liquid poke his black nose, and smiled. Aled lifted his head and licked the honey from his nose, then dipped his paw in it. Lifting the paw to his mouth, he licked the sweet nectar, feeling it's warmth run down his throat. He used it's stickiness to pick up a couple blueberries, he'd found them not long before arriving on the territory, only a few days ago. As they had to medicinal value, he decided that they shouldn't go to waste, and took them for himself. Honey and berries, that was breakfast.
He took a glance at the sky, it was getting lighter outside. While he couldn't see the clouds or the color of the sky, he could see shadows and light. Though in his mind this was enough to be able to around. It didn't look like anyone had come to the clearing yet, and the silence surrounding the meadow proved that. What shall I do today? He smiled at the many ways he could wake unsuspecting strangers, many of which included honey or other sticky substances being rubbed into the poor victim's fur. "Ah, but it's so quiet. I think I'll just lay here for a while longer, to take in this rare moment of silence." Aled was talking to himself again, as he usually did so on mornings like this. He licked the remaining mixture of berry juices and honey from his paw and laid down.
"Smells like a nice day."

N-NO! The scream came from every where at once, seeming to bounce off of the trees, and mountain sides of the area. Birds took off from their perches in the trees, their cawing causing quite a stir in the atmosphere indeed. So, why did the owner of the scream scream in the first place? Well, let's take a visit, shall we? The white femmora was staring down at the water, and for a moment she just stared at herself. A slow white fog was slowly encircling her form; starting from her paws, and slowly making it's way up her slender white columns. Her pale blue eyes were filled with rage as she stared down at her reflection. One single tear slid down her cheek before it disappeared in the crystalline surface. As the mist slowly took over her being, it transformed her. Her petite figure was slowly turned into something that could be compared to a monstrosity. Her body once so void of any imperfections were now riddled with scars; many seeming to be so fresh still. Her perfect white fur had grayed slightly. Her head lowered slightly as the mist slowly receded into nearly nothing; just a white blanket that clung to her paws. Slowly she opened her eyes to see the monster she knew would be staring right back at her.
A growl was heard deep in her chest, vibrating out her throat, and resounding through the area. It wasn't but a few moments before the femme turned on her heel, and barreled away from the water. Maybe she thought that if she couldn't see herself, the hideous creature she had become would go away. Her pink tongue lolled out the side of her mouth as her columns reached for more land, and ripped it underneath her bodice as she moved at a gut wrenching speed. Branches smacked her in the face, and left small slivers of lines were black liquid oozed. She definitely was different, that's for sure. The pain didn't phase her. She continued her mad dash into the great abyss, not caring where she ended up. Not caring if she ended up going right over the edge of a cliff. All she knew was that she was getting away. Getting away from that thing. Running from herself. Maybe if she could just run faster...
The female tore through the forest at an alarming rate. The poor dear didn't even see the log that she tripped over. It sent her whole world into a rapid spin. Head over heels she fell, her bodice simply rolling around and around before she came to a stop. Struggling, she managed to lift herself to her columns, and shake the dust from her canvas. She was panting now, extremely hard as her lungs worked breathe into her body. She lifted her snout toward the green tainted light that filtered through the canopy above her. Her jaws parted slightly, and she inhaled deeply through her nose. Blood. Life blood. There was a living creature some where near, and she would find it. Oh, she promised herself she would find it. Her paws took her in a different direction. Her murky blue eyes didn't seem to need to watch where she was going, she just...knew. Her paws carried her over the sod easily. Crouching low in the brush she peered out into the small glade.
A doe that wasn't very many moons old grazed on the sweet grass that grew there. Joker felt her throat clench for a moment, and she had to lick the saliva from her chomps. She settled down for a few moments, just watching the pattern of the doe. A flick of it's white tail, and a few turns of its audits was about it. Joker felt her muscles clench, and for a moment, it seemed like this would be an easy kill. Well, except for the fact that the wind decided to shift right at that critical moment. The does head shot up, and her beady eyes fell on Joker. It was now or never. The femme flung herself forward, her columns eating up the ground with amazing speed and agility. The doe turned quickly, and leaped over a large fallen tree. Joker was right behind her. The doe darted easily through the brush, and trees; using her long legs to dance around vegetation rather then through it. Joker just went right through it. Her blood was pumping in her veins, and roaring in her ears. This was it, she was going to get to sink her muzzle two inches deep in warm blood. The thought excited her. She jumped forward once more, but every time she began to gain on the doe, the doe got away. It was pissing her off, really.
Joker increased her speed just slightly, before feeling winded. She didn't know how much longer she would be able to run like she was. Just a little bit longer... She willed the doe to fall. To her surprise, she stumbled over a root. Bingo. She didn't waste anytime flinging herself at the doe. Her ivories dug deep into the neck of the doe, while her talons dug grooves into it's sides. It struggled to get up, but Joker had her in a choke hold. She was slowly suffocating. The she-wolf increased the pressure, and was delighted when the doe quit squirming. With a quick flash of teeth she made quick work of the delicate skin that had protected the doe from the elements. She tore a hole in the doe's neck, and plunged her maw as deep as she could; to the eyes. Slowly she closed her eyes, audits flattening against her skull. Slowly, she felt her heart beat slowing, and she found her self drifting off for a doze....
When she awoke, she no longer was a monster. Though, she was smothered in blood. It shocked her, it truly did. She took off blindly, rushing through the bushes before tripping over a root, and rolling down a slight incline. She came to a rough stop, and groaned as she glanced up. She had landed in a glade with a male here. One she didn't recognize. Slowly she rolled to her belly, but remained motionless. She was smothered in blood, and new exactly what this would look like to him. ~hope that's okay. My muse sorta ran out at the end...

"N-No!"
The gray and black canine perked his ears, but didn't move his head from where it rested on his paws. Should he investigate? Or should he remain where he was? He decided to stay in the spot he was at, the sun was in just the right place. Maybe he'd take a little snooze.....A loud growl interrupted his precious silence once more. Aled rolled over on his back, whisking his tail back and forth agitatedly. "Shut up will ya...."
His muttering seemed to work, as the growling ceased and the quiet morning returned to him. He closed his eyes, feeling the warmth on his stomach spread throughout his body. The peace didn't last for long, as a great weight landed on top of his resting body. He let out a 'hwoof' of surprise, and he was sure that the stranger had broken an organ or two. Aled could tell it was a she-wolf, though he didn't know who. She was covered in blood, but with his blindness had come an acute sense of smell, so he was able to smell the difference from wolf blood and prey blood.
"My dear, I would most appreciate it if you were to remove your rump from my stomach."

A surprised look flickered over her features for a moment. She had landed on him? Joker took this into consideration, and quickly backed away, being careful not to harm the male anymore than she already had. Oh my...I'm terribly sorry. I had quite a...a scare. She murmured softly, shaking her crown. She allowed her pink tongue to loll out, and run along the sides of her mouth to lick any remaining blood from her face. Her pale blue eyes scanned over the male for a moment. She got up, and slowly moved forward to see if he was alright. She lowered her muzzle to sniff at him a bit, before giving him his space. Are you alright? I hadn't hurt you too badly, have I? She was already a monster, she couldn't handle knowing she had hurt some one else in the process of running away from herself. Biting her lower lip slightly, she backed off to give the male his room to breathe. [[No, it's alright. Mine wasn't very good either. xD I was just matching my reply up to your first one. "Oh my...I'm terribly sorry. I had quite a...a scare."
Aled rolled over on his side without a word, his back to the she-wolf. He lapped at some of the blood that had wiped off onto him. The gray brute made a bit of a 'stink face' at the taste. Why does deer blood have to be so bitt- "Er?" The last syllable escaped his lips as he felt something wet press against his sort-haired back. He still felt the cold touch after it's origin left. He still remained where he was.
"Are you alright? I hadn't hurt you too badly, have I?" Now, there were two ways Aled could answer this oh-so-innocent question; He could 1) Tell the truth and say he was fine and everyone would go their separate ways, or 2) Have some fun and put on a show. Now Aled, being the complete ass he was, decided to go with the latter, as the former was far to obvious and boring.
He started off with a loud and melodramatic groan, then moved on to twisting his right fore-paw as far as he could, as if it were broken. He writhed and groaned and twisted his paw, finally ending with a 'spasm' that started at his head and ended at his tail. He twitched the bushy hind object and let his tongue loll out onto the ground, drool trickling from the corner of his mouth.
Aled closed his eyes and prepared for the grand finale. •━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━• •━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━•

As the odd spasms started she took a few startled steps back. She was about to ask what it was she could do when she picked up the signs that he was faking it. She was some what of a Joker herself you see, and knew when people were faking it or not. With a smirk that seemed almost demon she decided to play along. Frantically she jumped forward, ears pinned against her crown in concern. Her eyes darted about wildly. Oh my!-- Oh, oh...What in heavens do I do? She murmured softly. She glanced around quickly, and remembered a creek just a few inches back. With out any warning what so ever, she darted for the water, and dipped her bushy tail into it. With lightning speed she raced back, and flung the wet substance all over him. Wouldn't want you dying on me. She mused. Clearly, she had caught on by now. She rolled back to sit on her haunches, an amused yet proud gleam in her eyes. Yes, she had done it. Did she regret it? Not in the slightest. she waved her still wet tail around behind her, and a smirk not of this world crossed her bloody muzzle once again. Yet, she hadn't said a word. [[Haa. Joker catches on easily. She's exactly like him most of the time. This could be an interesting thread.]]

The brute allowed himself to chuckle when he heard the she-wolf's pawsteps race away from his 'unconscious' body. He settled down as he heard her coming back, bracing himself to jump out at her as he 'came back to life.' Aled yelped as he jumped. Not as part of a plot to scare the she-wolf, but out of shock as the drops of cold met his black and gray fur. He shook his whole body to rid himself of the icy touch of the water droplets. His fur puffed out in all directions, he hadn't expected her to use water.
Wouldn't want you dying on me.
He saw the silhouette of the she-wolf sit down on meadow floor. Aled stared at her for a few minutes, keeping his left eye socket closed, and laughed. "Bahahahah! Not bad for a young'un!" Now, a normal wolf may have gotten mad. A normal wolf may have gotten revenge. But Aled was not a normal wolf by any means. But because he wasn't a normal wolf, he knew when he had lost. He had no sense of pride, nor did he have anything to protect. To him, a loss was a loss, that's all there was to it.
As to why he had referred to the she-wolf as 'young'un', Aled was not an old wolf. In fact, he couldn't have been much older, if not younger, than the stranger before him. However, Aled thought of himself as an old man, as he had gone through enough pain to last a thousand lifetimes. He never let it show though, or maybe it was that he had forgotten the difference between pain and happiness. But explanations aside, here was Aled, an odd wolf, standing in front of an equally odd stranger. "It would seem that I've met my match." •━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━• •━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━ ━━━━━━━━•

She was pleased to see that he was not angry with her playful taunting when he yelped with surprise from the cold droplets of water. When he started to laugh she couldn't help but allow a few chuckles to escape her slender maw as well. With a bow of her head, a smile replaced the smirk that had taken residence on her maw just a few moments earlier. I must admit that you nearly had me fooled for a minute there. Her light blue eyes were shining brightly with a hint of joy, and laughter. She like meeting strangers most of the time, and now that her 'bad mood' had passed, she was in the mood to meet others. Her wet tail flung tiny water crystals in the air, and a slight shudder rippled through her bodice as the chill echoed through out her frame. It's nice to meet you. I'm sorry for my appearance, however. I must look like something out of a horror story. She allowed another smile, but there was something forced behind this one. Perhaps it was the episode that had just carried on that worried her. She had seen it in her reflection when she went to fetch water. She still had a slight crazed expression about her, but she seemed normal besides that. Well, that and the fact that she was smeared with blood. I don't normally look like this, I promise, She started, and a warm, genuine smile crossed her muzzle once more. Names Joker. She said simply, audits perked forward as she listened to any noises that surrounded the duo. [[Mhmm. At least the posts are easy to keep up with, you know? I must admit that you nearly had me fooled for a minute there.
Aled smiled, still keeping his left eye closed. "Ah, nice to know I've still got it." He sat down, the grass tickling his tail as it shifted to his moving form. Again, he kept his left eye closed, only looking in the she-wolf's direction with his some-what blind right eye. It's nice to meet you. I'm sorry for my appearance, however. I must look like something out of a horror story. This shocked him a little, did this stranger really look that bad? Aled smiled and opened his left eye to let her see the empty socket that remained. "I suppose that makes two of us." He quickly closed it again However, which of us looks worse, I couldn't tell you. The gray and black wolf rose his head to show her the misty red eye. Name's Joker.

She bowed her crown politely as he introduced himself. Aled...such a strange name! No matter, I have no right to speak for Joker is a strange name in its self. She watched him for a few moments before parting her maw once more to speak. So, Aled, what brings you to these lands? Wanderings, or do you have family here? She tilted her petite crown to the side, so both icy blue eyes were trained on him in a manner that expressed curiosity. For you see, with all her problems that she has she has managed to retain the personality of a child. Isn't it grand? occ:Oh poo! This reply sucks...

The gray and white brute plopped onto the ground, sticking his paw in his honey stash again. He licked his large forepaw, allowing the sticky substance to warm his throat once more that morning. Giving up on savoring it, he stuck the side of his paw in his maw, suckling on the nectar like a newborn pup. So much better than deer blood. So, Aled, what brings you to these lands? Wanderings, or do you have family here? Aled perked his ears at the sudden question, gazing at the she-wolf's silhouette. For a quick moment, the ever-present smile left his face to be replaced with a serious frown."That's quite a personal question young lady." As quickly as the smile left, it returned. He let the sticky paw drop out of his maw so he could talk a little more clearly. "But I suppose there's no harm in answering. If my only choices are the two you have presented to me, then you could say I'm here out due to my aimless wandering. Though that's merely the default." Aled stuck his paw in the honey and began sucking, speaking between licks. "And what of you, deary? What would a beautiful, young lass such as yourself be doing in such a dangerous place as the Outlands, hm?"
