Gaara stopped short. A deer was close by. Had it scented them? No. It was upwind of them. "Hey," he whispered. "Do you smell that. Follow me." He stalked up a hill and looked around. He saw a small deer. Not that big, but it was still food. The tip of his tail twitched as he thought of eating down on the deer.

What a yummy looking deer. Chicken Muffin thought, her ears facing the usually gentle creature. That was unless it was rutting or birthing season. But they weren't in that time. She crouched down, "How are we going to get it?" There were only two of them, and so leading the deer into another wolf wasn't going to work. A single wolf would have trouble keeping a deer on course.

Gaara looked around. "One of us distracts it and makes it chase them. Then one of us, while its running, will be standing right bhind it and trip it as it starts moving. I think that should work. When its on the ground, we jump it."

Chicken Muffin looked dubious "But why would a deer chase a wolf?" It would run rather than chase. She couldn't think of a way to get the deer to chase one of them.

Gaara growled. "I don't know," he said as soft as he could. "Just annoy it. Pretend that you're playing with it or something and daring it to chase you." He sighed and continued to closely examine the deer.

Chicken Muffin shrugged. "I'll try my best" She conceded, crouching low. "Just don't be mad if I mess it up" Chicken Muffin slunk forwards, towards the grazing deer. The deer looked up, ears twitching, nostrils flaring. Chicken Muffin stopped, her whole body tensed as she waited for the deer to return to its grazing.

Gaara nodded and went around the deer. He hid in the shadows and waited for it to make its move. When the deer had looked up, he stalked slowly towards it. As soon as it starts running, just trip it with your paw. Then we can both jump on it and kill it... Yea, that'll do.

After a few moments, the few nervously chewed on a few blades of grass, scraping away the snow. Chicken Muffin moved in again, a light smile on her face. It had been too long since she'd last hunted a large animal. When the deer looked up for a second time, Chicken Muffin nipped its legs, tugging it in her direction. The deer had other ideas and veered off to the right. Chicken Muffin jumped in front of it, nipping at its legs. To her surprise, the deer kicked her!

"Watch out!" Gaara bit onto the deer's hind legs. He watched as the deer fell onto the ground and struggled up. He jumped on the deer's back and gnawed at its shoulder.

Chicken Muffin wheezed, her side feeling very painful. She managed to grab the deer's mouth, and shoved it deep into the snow, a paw helping her to hold it down. The deer struggled, but Chicken Muffin just pressed its face further into the ground, now using both paws whilst she dug deep into its neck.

Gaara felt the deer struggling, but he didn't say or think anything. He let go of its shoulders and launched his jaws at its neck. He bit as hard and as deep his teeth could go. You're dead meat! His claws ripped at the deer's side.

Chicken Muffin jerked the neck, trying to break it with little success. The deer's struggles grew weaker as life ebbed into nothing. Chicken Muffin squeezed tighter, feeling a sudden limpness that told her the deer was dead.

Gaara let go and slightly smiled. Nightshade will be proud to hear that I was able to kill something big. But then again... His eyes softened and he looked away from the deer and Muffin. ...I'll become a warrior alone. My sister has ran off and may not be coming back.

Chicken Muffin laid down, giving her injured side a once over. She was glad to find nothing broken, just a splotchy bruise popping up. She licked a section of the deer "Good hunt" she thumped her tail on the ground, biting into the warm flesh.

"Is that bruise of yours all right? It looks pretty bad." Gaara sniffed at the deer and yawned. Now thinking about it, he wasn't so hungry. He kicked at one of the hooves and sat down. Maybe its just me, but this seemed like a long day. I've been worrying too much.
