Camp was quiet at night. The stars glittered through the cracks and crevices in the forest canopy in an inky summer sky. The moon was but a silver sliver, creeping closer to the new moon with every passing night. At the heart of the central clearing, an ash-colored, broad-shouldered wolf paced restlessly while his packmates slept. Such peaceful sleep eluded him, and he'd lost the ability to dream. Now, all he had were nightmares. Nightmares of Kaylee tumbling into her funeral pyre. It was this time, each day, that he felt like giving up. It was always at night, when his strength was spent from the day, where his heart came under attack once more and he felt his body buckle at the weight bearing down on his shoulders. It wasn't the same without her here. His family was almost completely gone, and though his packmates shared his losses, he had never felt more alone. He knew they held sorrow, too, but his sadness was so thick it had built a wall between him and the other Siverians. He couldn't feel the warmth of his brethren any longer. Just one sister left, that's it. She was what kept him going every day. Sighing softly, Griffin sat and stared up at the moon, wondering if what the elders told him of the Twilight Realm was true. If our ancestors are really watching us right now, why did they let this happen?

Yuriko was out patrolling the camp as her shift was coming to an end. Her paws leading her by the night dens which she could see Griffen watching the moon which had aided her during her shift. She nodded to another wolf who passed as they took over and went to join him. "Hey , How are you holding up?" she whispered in the darkness coming to lay next to her friend who looked as though he needed some one to lean on. "I am sorry for your loss." she said remembering some of the warriors mentioning some of the fallen and gossiping a bit. She looked at the moon in the sky and thought it looked a bit lonely. I wonder what he is thinking. I have never suffered such a large loss. I am glad he is still here.

Griffen stiffened at the sound of an approaching wolf, ears twitching at the disturbance. As he turned and caught sight of Yuriko, he was able to relax. Things had gotten bad enough to make him tense up within his own camp. He offered her a small smile that faded to sadness at her inquiry. However distressed his expression became, he was truly grateful for her company. The thing he loved most about his pack was that they leaned on each other. Even in times of need or struggle, they always had each other. Packmates were just extended family in his book. "I'm hanging in there," he told her, voice soft so as not to wake the others. "It's been really strange, not having most of my family around anymore, but I keep telling myself they aren't really gone -- they're still watching over us. They wouldn't want me to give up now, not after they died fighting Blood Mist. We can't back down after losing so many." As an afterthought, he gave her another small smile and added, "Thanks for asking. Some wolves just get all awkward by trying not to bring it up, but looking all sorry for me anyways."

"They know how hard it is for you and are probably not sure what to do. I am unsure myself because i have yet and hope never to lose someone important to me. Just remember that no matter what there is always someone who care for you just as you cared for your sister." She continued to whisper so not to stir the other sleeping wolves. her tail moved to cover his in a comforting fashion. "Even if the fallen wolves watch over us that does not mean they can take actions to stop anything we do. we just have to let them not die in vain. Heh on a lighter note is there any fae your interested in?" She snickered and nudged him playfully at her lighter comment. she was trying to get his mind else where and possibly cheer him up a bit.

(LOL not very subtle with your flirtation, are you, Yuriko? ) Griffin nodded in assent. "I know what you mean. I think some wolves expect Twilight to be able to fix everything. What they don't realize is Twilight is supposed to be a resting place....if we want anything to be different down here, we're the ones who are going to have to make it different." It was refreshing to talk to someone who understood this; he was sick of woebegone wolves praying to Twilight for a savior. We have to be our own saviors this time. They're trying to get us to realize that. Who knows, maybe they'll send us a sign, but that doesn't mean we should give up if they don't. "Huh?" He'd barely caught the tail end of Yuriko's comment. "Oh, girls," he laughed softly. "I hadn't given it much thought honestly, it seems like I haven't had time to. How about you, any special guy in your life?" Griffin was rather oblivious at the moment, having his head buried in other thoughts until her abrupt question, but he appreciated the lightening in the mood.

(Lol not in the least bit ) "Me? This wasn't about me." She seemed to want to get the attention off her self. Her fur was fluffed and she shifted uneasily. He paws seemed to fiddle with dust on the den floor. Afer a short bit she finally decided to answer his inquiry with a vague answer. "Okay, if you really want to know... I like a brute. He makes me smile but he doesn't notice me really." She sighed and looked at the moon then back to her pack mate. I wish that he would notice me, but I am probably to young.

Griffin rolled his eyes at her attempt to shift the conversation away from herself. "Too bad, sweetheart, you asked me, I get to ask you!" He winked at her, chuckling under his breath. This was just what he'd needed to get his mind off the battle, off of everything. He shrugged his shoulders as she confessed herself, feeling a stir of sympathy for the she-wolf. "Don't worry," he assured her. "Times have been rough, but with luck, maybe we'll get an ounce of peace and he'll start to notice you. I doubt there would be any other reason for him not to notice you besides everything that's been going on with the war and such. I mean, look at you -- you're absolutely beautiful." He stopped himself there; a wolfish sort of blush heated the skin beneath his pelt with embarrasment.

Yuriko sighed, looked at her pack mate with a smile her body already heated from a blush of telling her feelings to him. Her heavy fur especially in the summer was not helping her composure. He continued to speak and this time she listened to him ignoring his comment about her asking and it was his turn to receive answers.
"Don't worry,"
He said and she looked back to him her initial blush faded. She listened to his words.
"Times have been rough,”
She nodded and remained silent letting him finish his statement.
“but with luck, maybe we'll get an ounce of peace and he'll start to notice you.”
She giggled and laid her head on her paws. “Oh I sure hope he gets a clue.” she whispered to herself still listening to him intently.
“I doubt there would be any other reason for him not to notice you besides everything that's been going on with the war and such. I mean, look at you-”
She looked back at Griffin her eyebrow raised waiting for his speech to be finished. Her body tenses a little ~ what is he thinking? ~she leaned closer.
“- you're absolutely beautiful."
The fae blushed at the blunt words and paused for a moment. She then leaned in to quickly lick his cheek. She then turns away her tail swaying against the ground. "Thank you." She said softly.

Something warm pressed against his cheek, and then it was suddenly gone and then there were some murmured words, but Griffin scarcely heard them, he was so overcome with the suddenness of the action and the feeling it had caused. For a moment, he just stared at her in what may have been shock, but more likely was awe. A silly, lopsided grin formed slowly, but gradually on his maw as he gazed at her incredulously. Finally, he cleared his throat. "So, you think he needs to get a clue, huh? Must be one hell of a blockhead." In a fluid, swift gesture, he leaned towards her licked her cheek gently in return. He moved away slowly, still unable to move the stupid grin from his face. Say something smooth, idiot! "Uh...." You can do better than that! Be tall, dark, and handsome! "Let's get out of here -- go for a run or something." Not your greatest, but that'll do, that'll do.
