Zabe looked up at the dark sky. He was waiting for vultures to appear in the sky so he could know where to scavenge. He always thought about hungry every time his stomach growled, but his paws just would not move. So Zabe just laid on a rock and waited. I need something to keep me busy. For some reason, I feel like beating up another wolf for no reason. Zabe jumped off the rock and looked around. No one is around... I'll practice on that tree, then. He scratched his claws across the tree over and over again. Within a few minutes, there were claw marks covering most of the bottom part of the tree. That was fun. I will wait again, now.

Lily shook her coat free of snow and headed in a meandering trail back through a rocky mountain pass. She murmured to herself, wondering what Harriet was up to, she hadn't seen her sister or even heard from her in so long that Lily wasn't even sure if her sister still lived. It was fun in the mountains, her fur seemed particularly suited to it. And the solitary peaks had become like friends. She returned now because though she loved the peaks and the white rabbits running there sustained her, she needed to speak to another wolf. As she wandered downwards on the mountain, she did not expect to see another living soul, but soon she heard scratching. Lily paused, wondering if it was a deer scraping its horns, or a rabbit getting bark for nesting. Curious, Lily listened for any signs of leaving. A rabbit wouldn't stay, it would leave and come back... Lily howled into the cold air, and listened for a reply, hoping.

Zabe pricked his ears at the howl. Who could be here? Maybe someone found food for me to steal. He smirked and slowly stalked where the sound of the howl came from. "I can't believe it. I've been waiting here for almost ever and finally someone comes. I wonder what type of prey this wolf caught." A cold breeze blew down from the mountain and Zabe sniffed the air. There was no scent of prey, so why was the wolf howling? He started going even slower up the mountain; more wary this time. What if the wolf had heard or seen him and was calling for backup. He decided he would howl just to show he was friendly.

Lily jumped in the air, feeling a little foolish as her feet hit the soft ground. It was only a wolf after-all, not a rare gem. Having made her 'I'm not trying to sneak up and attack you' greeting, she set off, scenting the air, disappointed to find she was upwind and couldn't get anything further afield than her vision. Leaving the pass, Lily looked about her, sighing at the beautiful scene. Pristine-white snow glittered, even where trees broke the landscape, their branches were coated. The tree's were what she wanted, even though the scratching had stopped, it was fairly obvious that a wolf scratching bark must be around trees. Humming lightly, Lily moved towards the trees, lifting her paws high as snow-drifts made it harder to move. Something white darted across her path, for a moment she looked after the rabbit, wondering whether or not to try and chase it. By the time she decided she wasn't that hungry, it was already out of sight. "Hello?" Her light voice called as the tree's shadows drew her in. The crisp snow changed to odd splatters which covered crackling undergrowth. Lily eyed a cluster of icicles hanging above her head, moving silently to the side of them.

Zabe flicked his ears and slowly went towards the sound. Obviously the wolf was worried and confused. So I had nothing to be afraid of! Just a lost and lonely wolf, probably. He walked on until he saw a wolf waiting beside icicles. She has no food with her. There's nothing worth stealing here. Maybe I can just say a 'hello' and leave. He nodded and walked over to the wolf. "Hello, there. To tell you the truth, I never expected to see another wolf up here."

Lily nodded an eager consent. Eyes running up and down Zabe, she couldn't help but notice the lack of prey-smells on him. To find out when a wolf had last eaten, Lily usually smelled their breath. She inhaled, her nose twitching as cold-biting air raced through into her lungs. Still no food smell, poor thing. Lily lifted her tail up, and glanced out of the forest, wondering if she should tell him there was a rabbit nearby. It was probably miles away by now, the way rabbits run. Remembering her manners, Lily turned her head back and smiled. "I don't see why wolves don't favour these mountains" She murmured, jumping to the conclusion that this wolf had been in the mountains for a while. Slinking forward, keeping the ice shards in the corner of her vision in case they decided to make a dramatic entrance into her skin. "I'm Lily by the way" She added, then waited to hear the other wolf's name.

"Oh, well my name is Zabe. What are you doing on these mountains anyway? I was here because I wanted to..." Zabe quickly thought of a good lie. "I wanted to get away from some other wolves for awhile. I would never expect to see anyone else here." He hesitated and narrowed his eyes. "You weren't following me, were you?" He lifted his lips in a form of a snarl. He didn't want to really fight, he was just acting tough like he usually did when he met up with another wolf.

Am I intruding on this wolf's peace in my own efforts for company? Lily thought, a little guilty. It made sense that wolves hanging around in the mountains wouldn't be highly social. It had a snow-leopard ring to it, and snow leopards did nothing to attract others unless they were in heat. Suddenly, he was snarling at her! Lily stepped back, getting a fresh reminder of why she preferred solitude. Her nature was skittish, and having a strange wolf snarl at her did not help a bit. Her mottled fur stood straight along her back, increasing her size a few inches. "No I was not" Lily told him firmly. Why would she be following a wolf she had never met before? And did she really smell like her paws had been running over something other than snow for the past month? Answers in order: She wouldn't, and Yes.

"That's what I thought." Zabe turned to leave. "I'll continue on my way. And if I still see you, then I won't hesitate to attack." With a flick of his tail, he continued on. His stomach growled and he stopped. I need to eat something. It was pointless even talking to that wolf since she didn't have any food. He sniffed the ground for the scent of prey. He hated hunting and always scavenged, but if he had to hunt, he would.

Lily's mouth dropped, all guilt swept away by the wolf's sudden hostility. Well then, let him starve if he didn't have enough politeness in his blood to get a meal from her. She owed this wolf nothing, and it would be best to continue on for nicer company. Going the opposite way to Zabe would be impractical, even though her first thought was to storm that way. Down was the way to find more wolves, she would just pass him quickly and keep going. Not wanting anything more to do with him, Lily started into a lope, only slightly swerving her path to avoid colliding into him. Her tail held high behind her, Lily picked up speed through the little group of trees. That'll show him She thought to herself. Next time he'll think twice before threatening random wolves when he could use some help.
