Eli couldn't help but smile at the femmora. It was nice how she was trying to make him feel a little better about stammering and jabbering about. She was shy like him, so she must have known what it was like. He looked at her and said quietly, "Why is it that you're so...graceful...when no one but me is around? If they saw you run like you just did, they'd know, you, i mean, you know, that you're not, um, a clutz." Eli turned a little and was about to climb the side of the embankment when he thought about something else. "What's down here? I've never seen it before, is there good hunting here?" he asked, looking around. Eli could hear the many sounds of the winter birds and he felt happy inside. He also remembered the faces of the new neophytes earlier that day. They all looked so proud. He really liked living in a pack, and he told Bluefrost that as soon as the thought crossed his mind.

Bluefrost shrugged. "I don't know. I get...frustrated or embarrassed and then poof, there goes all my confidence." Bluefrost looked around the small clearing at the bottom of the embankment where she'd landed. A small creek could be heard nearby so there had to be some prey around here somewhere. If they were lucky, maybe a doe or stag would cross their path. The pack would love a chance to get deer meat in their bellies after their long hard trek over the mountains. "It looks like a place where deer would bed down" Bluefrost barked, looking around agian. "Maybe we can track one down?"

Eli grinned at the thought. He loved to hunt deer. Always a challenge, always great meat. "I say let's go for it," he said, happy to be going and happy to leave the subject that made him look like a babbling idiot. He took off at a brisk walk toward the sound of the water, scanning the land for any sign of prey, especially a deer. He thought he smelled a doe, but it was rather old, and he was pretty sure it would be long gone by now. He headed foreward anyway, scenting the site for the doe.

Bluefrost followed shortly behind her packmate, head up and ears pricked. As she neared a clearing, Bluefrost stopped, ears up and eyes scanning the undergrowth. Something was coming and it wasn't a deer. The sound of crunching snow was what alerted Bluefrost. Deer were light-footed, especially on snow. They never made that much noise. Then the scent hit her. It was a strange, strong scent, one she knew but had never had to face. Bear. Bluefrost's eyes widened in horror was a huge black bear lumbered out of the undergrowth, snarling bad-temperedly. From the looks of it, it was winter-fat and about to go into its den for the winter...and it was cranky. Bluefrost let out a terrified howl, alerting Eli to run. The fae turned and started to run full pelt away from the huge beast as it lumbered after her.

The howl from Bluefrost alerted Eli quickly. He looked up from the scent in the snow, and gasped when he saw a giant, cranky blackbear chasing his friend. He yelped in panic, anger, and confusion, and charged after the bear. "Bluefrost! Quickly, get up the embankment! And please, for the love of God, don't trip on anything!" The grey-white-black brute cought up to the bear but stayed a good five banners' distance away, snarling at the beast. He hoped Bluefrost didn't see through the act. He was more afraid than he'd ever been in his life, but he knew if he could act unafraid, it might help the fae not be scared. He growled, still padding alongside the monster. He'd diverted it attention, praying Blue had gotten away. He didnt have the time to make sure though. He was busy tryig not to get eaten. "Blue, when you're safe, let me know! I'll run like hellfire out of here. You go one way, I'll go the other. It'll confuse it, and we should be able to get away!" He managed to jump from one side to the other, backing up, still growling. He was shaking uncontrolably, and his fur was on end. He took a quick glance around for Bluefrost, and that was a mistake. The bear lunged, and a claw managed to scape the maw of the brute. He yelped in pain, his attention drawing back on the beast.

Eli's words gave Bluefrost an idea. The fae saw a root up ahead. Smirking, the fae ran striaght at it. Her paw caught and she tumbled down, landing belly up. The bear appeared. Bluefrost rolled onto her belly, still laying on the ground and shot forward. She was under the bear. Pushing up, Bluefrost slammed her back and shoulders against the bear's softer underbelly. The bear snarled angrily as Bluefrost's fangs sank into its thick hide. The bear reared onto it's hind legs, half dragging Bluefrost off the ground. Bluefrost let go of the bear and sprang back. She saw Eli nearby and winked at him. "Stay back I know what I'm doing!"
Bluefrost snarled, tail raised and fangs exposed. The bear roared angrily, flailing around it's oversized paws and hooked claws. Bluefrost sprang forward, leaping up. The world seemed to slow down as she soared toward the ugly beast. Her fangs sank into it's neck. Long claws hooked on her side but Bluefrost wouldn't let go. Bluefrost twisted her head, tearing the bear's throat open. The giant tumbled backward and fell with a crash. Bluefrost laid on top of it, panting and three long gashes running down her side from the claws. The bear was twitching and snarling, trying to rise and maul the wolves that had harmed it.
Well that didn't go right Bluefrost thought dazedly as she forced herself to roll off othe bear and stumble away a banner length from it before her paws refused to move anymore.

Eli was impressed with Bluefrost, but when he saw the gashes on her side and she couldn't move right, he ran up, about to go and check her out when the bear gave a low growl again. It was almost dead already, but bears are tough creatures, and he knew he had to do something. He crept slowly up, and grabbed the other side of it's neck, like Bluefrost had done. He dug into the thick hide, and while the bear thrashed and roared, he dig in deeper and deeper until it finally went still. He looked up at Bluefrost, her maw covered in blood, her side sliced, but she looked like she was ok, for the most part. "Are you ok? Do you need help?" he asked her. He stepped over the bear and stood by his packmate licking the bottom of one of her wouds. Normally, he would have done no such thing, but he was concerned, and she'd saved his life. He would put that off until later. He looked at her, woondering the quickest way to get her back to the pack so she could get a healer. His maw was still bleeding, but it was very minor. He needed to get her back first. "You're able to walk, right? I can help you if you need it, but we need to get you back to the pack. You need a healer."

"Just find cobwebs or moss" Bluefrost rasped, letting blood seep into the snow. Her deep brown eyes were staring at nothing in particular as she focused on keeping her breathing even even though her sides burned with each breath. It wasn't life threatening as long as the bleeding was stopped. A metallic taste crept into Bluefrost's mouth. Coughing the fae spit out a bit of blood. "I'll be fine...when this bleeding stops" Bluefrost barked softly, glancing at her own wounds. They did look bad but she knew the bear could have easily gutted her like a hunter dressing a deer.

"I'll find what I can, but we're going back to the pack. You need ahealer." He tured toward the stream, then turned back and said, "I know you wont move from there, right?" he half-warned. He turned away and ran toward the stream. He got there and nosed around in the snow, breaking the ice on the edge. Eli grabbed a clump of moss and wrung it out on the top of the ice, pressing down with his paw. He took it up in his mouth and trotted back to Blue. He pressed it on her wounds for a moment, and took it off when the bleeding let up a little. looking at the wound, he pressed it on a little longer, and then looked up at her. "We need to get you back to the pack. Lean on me if you need it, and if we go too quickly let me know, we can slow the pace."

"Right" Bluefrost murmured. Bloodloss made her dizzy and lightheaded as she pushed herself up off the snow. Blood splotched the snow around where she had laid. The fae moved gingerly toward the embankment. Her head was low and tail dragging a bit. It would be a long trip back to camp. Bluefrost looked at the embankment and her jaw tensed a little. She could sense more pain in the near future.

"Just one foot after the other," he said calmly. He lead her up the embankment, walking slowly, trying not to rush the bloodloss. He lead her on the path back to the pack, constantly looking over at her to make sure she was ok. "We'll get there soon, Blue," he said. "You were so brave." He gave her a slight smile. "We'll get there soon..."

Bluefrost forced her heavy paws to move, pushing her up the embankment with each step she took. Her side hurt and her right shoulder was killing her. Bluefrost felt like her paws were embedded in ice or turned to stone. "Oh stop it Eli" Bluefrost murmured tiredly. "I'll either make it or not. I'm not scared of GoldenMist." Bluefrost pulled herself up onto the path they'd been taking before her rather sloppy fall down the embankment.

"You shouldn't be. But I'd rather keep my friend with me. Look, camp is just over there. We can get there in just a bit." Eli was now relaxed a little more, but he was rather anxious to get to camp. His nose was burning more than it was earlier, but that was the least of his worries at the moment. Finally, after a few more minutes, they broke through the trees to the camp.
End of thread.
