Sunblaze didn't stop running until she reached the Mirror Stone. Or where it should have been. The absence of the stone sent chills down her spine and her eyes went wide. It was gone. Where it had gone, Sunblaze didn't know, it just...wasn't there. It should have been, was supposed to be there. It was the link between the packs and GoldenMist, the only link Sunblaze had to Kojo. He seemed to be the only wolf to know whatto do. Without that, Sunblaze was pretty much blind.
"No" Sunblaze murmured. "It has to be here. Maybe I'm in the wrong place..."
Sunblaze knew that was wrong. She was in the right place, where betas had gathered for years to get their twelve lives and get the wisdom of GoldenMist. No wonder the packs were loosing it. Their link was gone, their ancestors locked away and their voices muted.
Without thinking, Sunblaze leapt into the waters of the Mirror Lake. Her fur had only just dried from the gorge but she didn't care. Sunblaze went further down, kicking out, eyes searching the intense murky darkness. Down, down, down. There. Her eyes lighted upon the broken stone. A great crack had divided it in two. It had split and fallen into the Mirror Lake. The sides that had once glowed and showed where each packland was, were now dull as alge began making their way over the stone, clinging to it like an anchor.
Sunblaze swam closer, ignoring her need to breath. Her eyes wouldn't leave the fallen stone. She was rising, floating to the top. Sunblaze's head broke the surface and she gulped down the air, trance finally broken. Swimming to the shore, Sunblaze collapsed on the shore, half in and half out of the water.
