Sweet Tangerine's beautiful form strolled through the hollow. She was in no rush, and kept a slow pace. She'd split away from Grey Mist when the fighting had started the previous day. Destiny had granted she and Twilla permission to travel across with them. Tangerine would forever be grateful to the alphess for that, and she would never forget it. However, she was unsure. She'd thought a while about requesting to join Grey Mist, but had decided to remain free for now. She could hold her own in a fight, but that was about it. And besides, she preferred a simpler lifestyle.
She wasn't sure what had happened to Twilla's two other siblings, Vuelo and Birch, but this didn't seem to bother Twilla. The pup had been so young when Tangerine had found her that she doubted Twilla remembered them much.
Twilla bounced around Sweet Tangerine's heels, batting at a fly. The pup was so lively and carefree; unaware of the tragedies around her, or that wolves had died just yesterday.
Tangerine wondered if Twilla was happy. Would Twilla prefer life in a pack, or was she satisfied with the life Tangerine had carved for herself?

Muffled cursing echoed from the medium sized brute's form. Dark ebony fur was dull. No longer holding the sheen of health that it had when he had taken good care of himself. The brute had not eaten anything for several days. Though he was still young and in his prime his muscles were withering from his form. No food meant no nutrients. He was'nt as healthy as he had been. The stress , pain and anxiety that had been with him lately had caused silver and greyish white to begin tinting his fur. Something that should not have happened for several moons more. Soft blue eyes gazed at nothing in particular now. How much longer before he died? How much more pain? Of course, even after death the pain would still be there. The pain of loving a Black Mist fae. The one he had trained while she had been a loner with him. The one who could never love him. How he wished for her presence. something he would never get again. The sounds of wolves were brought to his auds.

Sweet Tangerine backed away a bit at the sight of the seemingly sick brute. She pushed Twilla behind her as a safety percaution. "Hello? Who are you?" She called, voice soft and velvet-like. Tangerine had never been a hostile female. Though she was a bit on edge right now, she decided it would be better to see what this character was about before plunging into a fight....especially with Twilla around. "I'm Sweet Tangerine....just call me Tangerine...."

The ebony brute turned his head to see a femme. A second, much younger female was behind her. Parting his greying muzzle he replied in a rather tired tone. "Call me Nezero. I'm but a simple weary loner. You can call me Nero if you like." He paused. Glancing down at the pup. A smile crested his maw. The ebony brute had always loved pups. He lay down on his belly. Smiling at the pup."Hello there little one. What's your name?" His hard eyes of ice changed to ones of a softer tone.

Tangerine allowed her fur to lie flat. He didn't look like much of a threat, anyhow. In any other situation, he would be, but he seemed worn and tattered. She noted he seemed to have a sickly aura. She knew what herbs would help him, but should she leave Twilla alone with this stranger? No...Twilla could come with her... there were some things that needed to be explained, anyway...
Twilla bounced forward from behind Tangerine, smiling luminously. "I'm Twilla!" She yipped playfully. "Hi Nero! Did you travel far, too?" She asked, referring to the long trek across the mountains. Twilla didn't know what had happened on the twenty-first, or that wolves had perished on that long voyage. She didn't yet understand that wolves died every day. Tangerine had saw to it that she and Twilla had split from the packs when the going got rough.

Nezero smiled happily. For once in moons the brute actually seemed to be happy. "Nice to meet you Twilla. Yes. I was on a long journey. From the other side of the mountains. There was a beautiful lake, the Mirrow lake. The terra's were all beautiful and vast. I remember it quite well." For a moment the male's pools were distant. Then he came back. Turning his crown he smiled at Twilla.

Twilla nodded. "But then the lake got sick and died!" She frowned deeply. "And then I got seperated from Vuelo and Birch....but Tangerine found me! We looked and looked for them, but they were gone!" She explained sadly.
Tangerine monitored the two carefully. She knew Twilla's cry well, and Tangerine was one of the swiftest wolves around. If anything happened, Tangerine would be able to get back before things worsened... "You're sickly, Nero. I know of some herbs that may ease your pains. I'll be back in a moment with them." She turned, then added in an undertone so only Nero could hear, "And if one little hair on her head is astray, I'll send you to your grave."

Nezero gave a swift nod of his crown. Motioning that he had heard. Then he barked, "That is very kind of you Tangerine." speaking about the herbs. turning back to Twilla he smiled again. "I'm sure you will see your siblings again someday Twilla. " Then thinking of teh lake he added." The lake did not die. It simply ended. I am sure one day it will be pure again."He murmured. Though he knew such a thing would never happen.

Tangerine flicked her tail and padded swiftly into the woods. Though she was sure Twilla wouldn't be harmed, she was still determined to make this a fast trip. She mentally went over Nero's visible symptoms in her head. She decided the best things for him would be feerfew, celadine, chamomile, and a bit of goldenrod. She sniffed and shuffled through the leaves with a healer's care.
Twilla shrugged. "They didn't come across the mountains. We don't know what the devil did while we weren't in the forest. Maybe she hurt them and the others who stayed. We won't ever know."

Nezero looked down at the pup. Thinking. One black ear flicked. "You have to hope they will find you. Beleive they are alright. And wish for their safe return. Perhaps, they will be found again." One aud was perked for the sounds of approaching animals or predators.

"But why?" Twilla pressed, unconvinced. "Why have false hope? I know there's no chance they'll find this place. When Tangerine and I got here, we heard this huge bang! Tangerine didn't tell me everything, but she said that there must have been a rock fall or something..."

Nezero stiffened. Closing his pools for a moment. The battle scene flashed back to him. Then his eyes opened again. "If you don't have hope then what do you have? Even when everything hurts. When all hope seems to be lost. You have to hope. Without hope what would help you sleep at night?"

"Hope is but a dream," Twilla grunted stubbornly. The young pup was obviously pessimistic. She had not gotten this from Tangerine;; the female was always upbeat around the pup. But when she thought Twilla wasn't looking...Tangerine wept. Twilla hadn't said anything to her gaurdian, but it had irked the young wolf. She felt for Tangerine, but wasn't sure how to help her.
Tangerine returned with her herbs and padded over to Nero. She first applied the chewed-up celadine to his eyes. They'd seemed a bit blood-shot to her, and the celadine would help whatever irritants he had go away. She then pushed the feverfew, goldenrod, and chamomile towards him. "Eat them seperately," she told him.

Nezero nodded. He took the feverfew in his maw and began to eat it. Looking at Twilla. Then he glanced at Tangerine. "You two always been loners?"He asked as soon as he had swalloed the feverfew.

Tangerine sighed. She supposed she should explain her past to him. All the loners back home had known of her background, but they hadn't cared. If Nero did, he could go eat his own tail. "Twilla is the daughter of Ragweed and Crystal. So yes, she's always been a loner. My parents were of Blood Mist. When my father died, my mother was pregnant with me. She didn't want that life for me. She wanted me to be free...without the influences of Verlust. She escaped, but at a horrible cost. They chased her down. They hunted her. For nine long moons, she lived in hiding. I was alive for six of those moons. She used to sing to me....a song called Sweet Tangerine. She hadn't named me when I was born, so I simply remained her pup. One day, she was caught. She told me to run, and I did. The Blood Mist wolves killed her under a tangerine tree. When i came back at dusk, she sang me that song one last time. And she named me Sweet Tangerine."
