A shadowy wraith melted into his surroundings, slithering amongst the darkness in search of who knows what. He was stronger now, ready to take on anyone-- whether they be ten times larger or not. The scar on the bridge of his nose still visible through his fur, Shade tilted his head back and narrowed his eyes at the moon. Where are you guys? Sisters, you left me...I won't lose my brother too. Appocalipto had disappeared, and he was determined to find him.

Moon sat on the crest of a hill just outside the Redbird Hollow. Her head was upturned though her misty eyes had no way of seeing the clear full moon hanging in the navy sky overhead. She still felt the moonlight, or that was how she imagined it. To Moon, the moonlight felt cooler, just like sunlight felt warmer. Maybe it was just her mind playing tricks but she didn't particularly care. She had just come from the Twilight Lake, comforting Kuroshin after his foster mother had died, Shero and Kasa still unknowing. Moon had thought of finding them. No family member deserved to not know the death of someone that had raised them.
Moon's clouded eyes closed as her mind drifted back in time to a simpler, happier time. Ebony. His scent of pine trees. Shade, always so kind and understanding about her blindness. Midnight, her best friend. Luna, her loving mother that tried so hard. Appocalipto, her mysterious brother but brother nonetheless. Moon missed them. All of them but she couldn't go back. The Yozorans wouldn't accept her now. The sickness made her fearful however. Ebony was growing old. Had he gotten sick? Was he still alive? What about Luna? Her brothers? Midnight?
So many thoughts flooded through Moon's mind that she didn't notice the moonlight making her shine like a becon, her white fur reflecting the silvery light. She failed to notice the familiar scent on the breeze or the pad of nearby pawsteps.

Shade perked his ears, straightening his spine and staring off into the night. A familiar scent reached his nostrils... and it sent his fur spiking up and made his mouth dry. Moon... He took a few steps forward, in such a state of disbelief that he couldn't speak when he saw her lovely form in the moonlight.

Moon was brought out of her trance of memories when the wind changed. Someone was there. Moon leapt to her paws, whipping around to face the direction the scent came from. Her fur bristled and her lips pulled back in a warning growl. "Who's there?" Moon barked, her voice sharp, ears pricked. She heard leaves rustle. They were close. Moon should have known better then letting herself get so lost in memories. Being absent minded in these days was dangerous but...the scent was wrong. It semlled like a packwolf. Moon relaxed a little, looking confused. "Who's there?" she asked in a softer tone, sounding more confused.

And that's when he knew it was her. He was positive. He didn't need the sight, nor the scent to assure himself that it was her... no, her ringing voice-- the voice bringing back memories of when they played in the den-- was all the justification that he needed. "M-M..." He couldn't find his voice right now. She's... alive? Still alive??

Moon took a wary step back. Her ears were flared forward, trying to catch what the other wolf was saying. The wind changed, blowing the scent away and instantly she was on hyperalert. Muscles tensed under her ivory pelt, ready to run. "I said who's there?" Moon barked, voice growing harsher again. She was wary. In these times it was almost impossible to ever relax. Forcers were becoming more and more common. That news in itself made her worry. Moon was blind. They would think her an easy target.

Still speechless, Shade found himself padding toward her. He knew it was a bad idea to approach a blind wolf so directly without forewarning, but everything was a dreamy blur now. He stopped right in front of his sister, drinking in her scent and listening to the unsteady, nervous pace of her breathing. He found himself leaning forward and touching noses with his sister, close to tears of disbelief and joy. He never said a word.

Moon sprang back, pushing herself away from Shade. She wheeled around and ran like a ghost through the night. Her heart was pounding out a jagged rythem of panic as she sprinted wildly, roughly crashing into trees, too worried to bother focusing on her path as clearly as she normally would. A forcer. No one else would do that. Not so directly. Nezero knew better. He would tell her he was coming or stand so she could smell him. Zenya would speak, one of her sarcastic little remarks or something along those lines. Strangers didn't do well with Moon. Ever. Not when she couldn't smell them and they wouldn't speak.

(shade is an idiot ) And now he found himself alone, his sister running from him. Gone again. And it was seeing her form disappearing into the woodland that brought him back to reality... to awareness. Oh my god... Shade, you idiot! He ran after her as fast as he could. I'm not losing my sister again... not AGAIN.

Moon howled in surprise as she collided painfully with something furry, warm and large. The femme tumbled backward, landing belly up on the mossy ground, blank eyes staring into the darkness that made up her solitary world. "Who's there?" Moon barked, breathing in frantically, wild with panic. The smell of pine trees however, cut through her panic like a hot knife through butter. "Ebony!"
Ebony's large black form was hidden in the darkness, or at least mostly hidden. His amber eyes were misting over, his fur turning grey around his muzzle to show his age. The muscle that had made his fur ripple in his prime had begun to stiffen, old battle injuries and the wear and tear of time making itself known. His eyes widened as he recognized a voice he hadn't heard in many moons. "Moon!" Ebony barked, turning his head to look at the blurred white femme still laying on the ground, apparently stunned. "What were you running from?"

Shade skidded to a halt, a shadow on the face of the earth. His ears twitched, hearing another voice. He took a small step foward... and his eyes widened further. Dad...? What is he doing out here? The wolf tentatively poked his head out from behind the bushes, scarred muzzle peering out into the darkness. He discovered his sister on the ground... and his father looming over her. He hesitated.

"You tell me" Moon barked, rolling over and pushing herself up. "Someone....someone's here and the damned bastard won't say anything, I can't catch a scent."
Ebony's misty honey eyes scanned the surrounding area. Breathing in the once formitable brute took in the smells of the Redbird Hollow. He wasn't surprised Moon was panicked. The last thing a blind wolf wanted to face was a wolf they didn't know, couldn't smell and couldn't hear. "Who's there? Come on out now."

Maybe... maybe I should just turn around now. Pretend they never saw me... But he listened to his father, and shyly stepped out into the open, ears back and head inclined. Shade looked from Moon to Ebony and back, and finally to his paws. She's alive, she's alive, she's alive...

Moon stiffened but Ebony remained relaxed, eyes following the sound of leaves moving. Slowly he moved forward, approaching the blurred form of another black wolf. A familiar black wolf. A small smile found its place on Ebony's worn visage, misty eyes lighting a bit. Reaching forward, Ebony touched his muzzle to Shade's. "It's been a long time son" he said softly.
Moon's jaw dropped and slowly she shifted so that she could catch his scent. There it was. "Shade?" Moon barked in surprise. "Dad....I thought....you said they went missing!" The last time she'd seen her father moons ago he had said her brothers and sister had gone missing. Now....one of them was back. It was almost unbelievable.

Shade dipped his head, ears going back. "I know... a long while," he murmured. His voice had changed since his puphood, becoming stronger and deeper. His scars now worn ornaments on his body. He rubbed his muzzle against Ebony's, and then pulled back to look at Moon. "...you're alive..." he whispered, half to himself.
