"Mama? Can I ask you something?" A black femmora lifted her head tiredly, but quickly lightened with a smile as a black-and-white pup bounced to her side. "Yes, of course- what is it, Coal?" "Is daddy from a different pack?" And the smile faded, her eyes desperately trying to hide the pain that resided there. "What would ever give you that idea?" "Well, you don't talk about him... and that's what Moss thinks, too." "Well, it doesn't matter..." "Yes it does!" His mother reguarded him with stern eyes, but he continued anyway. "At least... let me know his name!" She paused, looking at her child. "...come here." Coal obediantly padded close enough so that she could pull him beside her, nuzzling her son fondly. "...his name was Kale..." The young pup grinned, pressing himself closer to his mother. "Kale..." he breathed softly. "...Kale..."
"Let me through-- please!" The medicine wolf hesitantly stepped aside as the neophyte burst in, tears of horror and worry in his eyes. "M-mother!" he cried out, skidding to a halt beside her unmoving form. "Mother... wake up! Please!" The old fae slowly opened her eyes, and offered a sad, wistful smile in response. "...oh, Coal... you look so much like your father... and you've grown up so well..." "Mother--?" "Don't be sad..." "Mother!?" "...I'll meet your father soon..." "....mother?" No answer. And the young wolf broke down, sobbing into his mother's fur... and wishing all night for a miracle that would send her back to him.
"Kale... Mother...." Coal blinked, startled by the mass of memories that flooded back into his mind. He remembered. And then another single thought penetrated his mind:
"I love you."
"....Ivory!" Coal swiveled around, fur standing on end. She... she's been hurt! Oh, no... oh, GOD, no... With a snarl of complete and utter rage, the wolf surged forward, leaping onto the bear and ripping into the bear's throat, finishing the work that Ivory had started. "You-damn-MONSTER!"

Ivory breathed lightly, her eyes seeing nothing but the scarlet coloring of blood. Her form was motionless, unmoving. Thoughts weaving through her mind, the hopelessness of Coal's memory loss mixing through her head. He doesn't know who you are, Ivory. He doesn't remember you, or the memories you held together, or the last bear attack, or the time he saved your life from the battle with Blood Mist. He doesn't remember the love you shared. The thoughts swirled, and whipped at her, giving her deep wounds and lashes, even as they were internal they were painful.

"No-no-no-- YOU STAY WITH ME!" Coal howled toward Ivory, eyes frantically darting to the bear and back to his lover's still, bloody form. He dug his fangs into the bears throat, listening for the satisfactory gurgling of the bear choking on its own blood. This time I'll kill you for good... and send you to Hellfire where you belong! "Come on Ivory!" Coal cried out, a crimson mask adorning his muzzle. "I love you!"

The femora's eyes slowly opened, watching Coal with a wistful smile. Her eyes showed light leaving, but as it seemed that all light had gone, she still breathed. Her heart thumped as the words Coal said began to make sense, the words she had been repeating to him for moons that he never returned. "Oh, Coal, I'm so glad that you have seen the light, I'm so glad you have your memory back.." she rasped, her eyes sparking a bit.

"I-Ivory," Coal stammered, slackening his grip. In that moment, the bear swung about, neck spilling blood... and threw Coal off- But he landed on his paws, skidding roughly on the ground. I'm not losing my memory again... I will NOT. He looked toward Ivory's dying form, and pressed his nose into her fur. "Please... hang in there... I'll get help, and then when you're better, we can have a life for us- like we always dreamed of having..." He licked her fur gently, sorrow and love shining in his eyes. "Please, Ivory... don't leave me.... not now...?"
Behind them, the bear was swaying about, near-death and furoius...

Ivory's trembling paw raised and landed towards his; trying to grab him almost. She looked up at him, her wistful smile remaining, eyes almost seeming sightless. Shaking her head, she laughed very softly. "I'm very sorry, Coal. I wish.. but medicines won't help me--" something jerked sending her eyes snapping shut. "I'm sorry.." her whisper weakened.

"N-no.... no-please-no..." Coal licked Ivory's face frantically, heart pounding and breaking at the same time. Tears spilled from his eyes, falling beside his paws as dark lines stained his face. "...not now... not when I just remembered- no...." He laid himself beside her, still licking. "Please, I need you to stay with me.... I need you with me..."

Tears began to slip from Ivory's closed eyes. Whispers came from her muzzle, so light that they were unauditable. Her form tightened, then loosened. Her breathing became softer, less noticable until it seemed she did not breath, but, if you looked closely enough, then you would be able to see a light up and down motion on her chest-- her heart was still beating. She was alive, but not for too long. "Coal... please do not dwell upon this, you can find another mate, I won't mind, whatever makes you happy. I love you, I want you to be happy." it was faint, and she felt a huge lump apear in her throat as she said these; she didn't want him to find another mate, but she did want him to be happy.

"N-no... I can only be happy with you..." Coal nuzzled Ivory helplessly, tears in his eyes. "Only you..." ...what's the use in remembering if all you get is pain? "Please, no... stay with me... p-please, s-stay..."

Ivory began to push herself to her feet, eyes tight in pain. She began to fall back to the ground, but she grabbed Coal's chest in her teeth, then began to pull herself to her feet again. Once she had released Coal's chest, she looked up af him and whispered, "Sorry, about your chest... I fell.." She coughed then whispered, "Let's go, I think I can make it to camp." Should I tell him...? About our lost pups.. how my injury.. killed them? She thought this to herself, wondering how much pain he could take. No. He's gone through quite enough.. maybe later. She knew she could never tell him. It might have been clear-- the way she seemed to have a random spurt of pain, or maybe it seemed injury related.

((oo- what a nice little secret XD))
Relief and anxiety clawed at his mind as Ivory attempted to stand. He hardly felt the fangs piercing his chest, clouded with too many other emotions to notice such a trivial action. "It's fine," he murmured softly. "Here- lean on me..." Coming up along her flank and lowering himself so that she could lean on him, he cast a final glance behind him. There was blood all over the clearing... and the bear was gone. This time... will you stay dead? he wondered.

[[The pack literally killed them-- she was running away from the pack because they were chasing her out and she tripped and fell into the rushing waters of the river-- a very nice secret ^^]]
Ivory leaned heavily on his shoulder, barely able to hold herself on her own feet, as she tried to make it the few yards into the camp with her broken paw. She gasped, as something stabbed her broken paw. She glanced down, wincing, as the thorn added to the pain of keeping this from Coal. I can't cause him anymore pain; I don't think he could take it. A tear slipped from her eye, and she quickly closed her eyes before Coal could notice anything was wrong, though she knew she could quickly lie, telling him how happy she was that his memory was back, but she couldn't take keeping something like this from him.

Coal glanced to one side, hearing her emit a small gasp. "What's wrong?" he asked worriedly, slowing his pace slightly. He didn't want to take any chances at this point. He also notice something-- no, she closed her eyes. He could've sworn he saw a- no. Focus on getting her safe.

Lie. No. Lie. No It would be so easy... I know. Then do it. I won't. Do it. No.
She almost began to pant with a nervous jerk, but she held it in. He would be suspicious, she knew he would, but she also knew she couldn't cause him anymore pain. She shook her head and glanced up at the wolf, wondering how she could tell him. The opposing voice didn't speak again, but she could hear it's amused chuckles as she began to speak. She didn't like it either. "I-- It's nothing.. I just feel sick.. that's all--" the last to words came out quickly, as though she was lying.
You were lying... I know..

Coal looked the other way slightly, as if his other paw suddenly caught his attention and fascinated him. Rather, he was just trying to hide the raw hurt that flashed in his face. She didn't trust him- he knew as well as anyone that she was lying.... first off, he knew her very well (as he now remembered), and secondly, he senses had been heightened during his ordeals of crossing into the land of the dead. She might has well have slapped him in the face and said 'Sorry- this is my secret'. But he respected her apparent wishes and kept his distance, forcing himself not to weed the truth out of her and instead replying with a tart, "Alright then." He hoped that he didn't sound as bitter as he felt.
