The sterling alphess flew through the woodlands, paws scarcely marking the ground as they flew over the spongy beds of grasses and pine needles. She was slimmer than usual, no longer her healthy, lean physique, but a splintered picture frame of what she'd once been. Her shimmering pelt was now a duller shine, blown back from the swift wind that ran with her and all creatures that day. The sun filtered through a rich green canopy above, but only a lone crow called through the mountain valley that morning. It soared an circled near the wolves, leathery black wings creating shadows over their heads.
Mist's limbs cried out in agony. They hadn't stopped to rest, as there was no time to do so. They needed recruits from the loner lands, wolves who could feed their pack without crossing the lines quite yet. That would come later, when the alliances were at equal advantages.
We'll need as many as we can get -- we need to be up to scratch as soon as possible. Plunging ourselves directly into war is a terrible thing, so at least we have some preface to whatever battle awaits us. There will be no fighting at the meeting -- so we'll have another day or so after our request to make preparations. If we're lucky, we can return to our former glory within a week. We need to step up our neophyte progress and rally our ranks if we are to succeed. Verlust might've been a tyrant, but she and Lupus are dead clever...
She hoped Light's thought patterns matched or at least were close to hers. He'd been more open than she thought he would be to speaking with the two ancient leaders, which pleased her. At least they were on the same page for some things. But was he as ready as her for the war they were speeding towards?
We don't have much of a choice anymore. War was inevitable from the first time we whispered our love. But now it is more than just a battle to prove our own romance. This is to feed our packs. And as I would for Light, I will fight on with every inch of strength I've got. And I will not stop until we have reached our goal and our packs, our alliance, our children are safe.
Mist slowed a bit, form stepping out into the light, sunny meadows where the loner populations was at its thickest. She glanced around, sifting through the barrage of scents for a few specific flavors. She looked back at Light, breathing deeply.
"Well...here it goes, I suppose..."
