Kar staggered into camp, pupils tiny black pinpoints on his eyes… he was obviously in shock. Blood soaked his chest and chin, giving him an almost savage look. But this was not his own blood- it was his father’s. His own father had given his life for him… With a distraught whine, Kar collapsed to the ground, shaking as he let tears flow from under his lids. This… this can’t be happening…

Blood. It filled her nostrils, the rank smell of death. Annelise's eyes widened and she stood, darting from her place in the healer den and stopping just as quickly in the main clearing. "Kar? W-What happened?" She gasped. But a part of her already knew. Kar had overheard parts of her conversation with Arroyo....Kar had come in from the same place Arroyo had left....the blood...the scents. Kar had met with Arroyo, and some other wolf, too, but she didn't care about that. Not now, at least. "Kar, where's Dad?" She asked, her voice cracking.

The silver brute simply shook his head, unable to speak as tears stained the black fur that painted his face. "...r-rabid... he d-didn't... h-he wouldn't s-stop... he s-stood there... and t-the t-tree....." Kar looked away from his sister, choking out sobs. He felt as if he couldn't breathe.

Annelise's eyes widened as she took a sharp breath. The tears came silently, but she shook with them. "No...no....why now?" She whispered, voice barely audible. She swayed on her paws, one thought still penetrating the chaos: I. Need. To. See. Shade. She didn't know how she still managed to think in a time like this, but she knew it was true. Not yet. I think I need Kar right now, too.
