The night had long since settled on the land, a crescent moon appearing in the sky, a grim sort of cheshire grin to taunt those who chose to wander the forest. One such creature was a young wolf, whose recent nights had been filled with searching out insects. That was precisely what he was in the middle of doing, bounding around to catch the flying insects. These were not, of course, the best tasting, but when little could be caught he had to survive.
While in the midst of licking his pads clean, his leathery nose would pick up the scent of something far more interesting. On close investigation, he found the remains of a small rat; it seemed that another had been feeding on it, though obviously none of his kind. The creature would have been going by now if they had. Gently touching his nose to the corpse, he'd sniff, attempting to surmise if the creature had been left there for a long period of time. Deciding it was still worthy, he'd pick it up gently in his mouth and glance quickly around... He needed to find an abandoned area to finish his meal. He didn't want anyone else traipsing around and attempting to take some of his prize.
Moving quickly into the shadows, the wolf would stumble over his own paws as he sought out the perfect spot to enjoy his treasure. It wasn't long before he arrived at a large lake. Instantly, he dropped the rodent, moving over to the water which ran into the lake. The stream was moving rather quickly, making his reflection seem distorted. After a moment of studying himself, he would turn back to his food. His steps were slow as he moved back towards his dinner, laying down beside the rat. This was as good of a place as any abandoned area.

Not supposed to be this far from home. Mom's probably gonna be all frazzled when I get back.... But we're leaving soon. I just want a glimpse of this place...something to remember it by. Maybe I can come back someday. Illustrian is gone for good, I know this....but maybe someday the ones who took him from us will be gone too. And then we can come back home for good....Illustrian didn't like it when we talked about moving.... The she-wolf was almost fox-like, a slim and slender frame draped with ragged, long chestnut brown pelt. The tip of her tail, as well as her muzzle, was painted black like the night sky above, all flooded with smoke from the fires. She was not fully-grown, this much was clear. Her light, honey-colored eyes rested on the few stars that stuck out through the shafts of fog and shadow. Illustrian....brother.....I miss you. I hope you're happy up there. Watch over this place -- I promise you I will return one day. And if your killers are not gone....I will find them myself. As her paws began to move forward once more, her eyes fell back to the forest path in front of her. But something caught her gaze; she gasped softly, surprised she was not alone. She froze for a moment, eyes taking in the other wolf by the Twilight Lake, noting his age was similar to hers, also noting he held no pack scent that she could decipher. Was another loner family nearby? No one had ever found the old abaondoned shed she and her family used....no one except for two demons who had tracked them not long ago. This wolf, at first sight, seemed no threat. So, not wanting to look like a complete odd ball, she broke free of her rigid position and forced a small smile. "Hello. It's a lovely night, isn't it? I'm....Amoret." They were leaving in a few days...it wasn't like she would tell him where. She could trust him with her name. "Who are you? I haven't seen you around here before."
