The cream and light brown she-wolf rolled over in her bedding -- crunchy, dry, uncomfortable materials -- and eyed the small shafts of light at the edge of the den. The small shafts flickered in and out like shadows at the entrance, unsure of whether they really were permitted to be there or not. And, of course, the fog still does not lift. She groaned audibly and rose to stretch. It seemed she was one of the last wolves in the den -- she must've overslept. I feel bad, but I don't think I'll get in trouble -- my shoulder was hurting me since the battle. It's a little stiff, but at least it's not as bad as it has been. She rolled the said shoulder a bit, wincing at the slight distress in the muscles. She shrugged, then began to pad uncertainly towards the exit.
The world was white and mysterious as ever, though visibility seemed just a slight degree more managable. Or maybe that was her eyes adapting to the wonderland swirls of gray, black, and white. It seemed so abstract, so terribly wrong to be happening now, of all times. Winter, perhaps, this would've seem so out of character, but it was autumn! Leave should be changing to sunset hues and falling to carpet the floor of the camp and territories -- not this. Eh. I've been over this before. No need to re hash it all internally....not like I actually expected to wake up and find it all back to normal. She glanced around, looking for nothing in particular, but still hoping to find another wolf. I know we need food and bedding and things to prepare for winter, but....all of this worrying is driving me crazy. I know I do it too much in general, but if I don't get some air soon.....it will be dangerous to have me around, and I'll be too much of a downer. ....I need fun. "Hello?"

"Oi," replied Styx coming out of the fog. "What are you still doing here? I thought you would've been awake and gone off by now." He tried to smile even though he could tell Meg was feeling down. "What's wrong with you? Is it the fog?" He looked up and blew at the fog. The swirling little clouds actually amused him. "Erm..yeah... What are you doing here again?"

Meg shrugged, the momentary lonliness evaporating at the sight of her packmate. "I guess I overslept -- my internal clock is all messed up, probably 'cause of this stuff and the seasons changing and crap like that. Ah, well, I didn't miss anything important, did I? I don't think Reason scheduled any training for me today, either....though I really should be out on a patrol or something," Meg woofed, a bit guiltily. Ah, well, I guess it happens to the best of us, doesn't it? I really need to work with this stuff, too -- we're all going to have to learn some techniques to navigate through these conditions. Adaptation is probably the only option. Can't fight nature.... But I really don't feel like dealing with nature, honestly. Lazy, maybe, but true.

"Eh... No, nothing important. I haven't seen my mentor lately, too. So I guess there's really nothing here we can do." He sat down and started thinking. Maybe we can go patrolling around. I'm sure no one will mind. "That's it! We'll just patrol the territory. That way we'll at least be doing something important. What do you think?"

Meg, who had slopped down beside Styx, almost out of disappointment there wasn't any news or happenings, perked up. "That's a good idea --- that way we can be productive, at least. And hey...." she sniffed the fog hanging close to them. "Maybe we can even manage to have some fun with this stuff. Where should we start?" She stood, giving her pelt a small shake.

"Let's try Sparkling Stream! We can hunt while we're there, too." The main reason Styx wanted to go there was because he was after the fish. He had failed to catch a fish last time and ended up getting bit by a beaver. Today he had planned not to get bitten and not to have a fish slip out of his grasp again. He would even jump in the water and chase one if he had to.

Meg nodded, excited at the prospect at her first attempt to catch a fish. "All right! Let's go! Wait -- I'll race you!" She grinned, crouching low and swishing her tail to add some dramatics. "Unless the great Styx isn't up for the challenge?" She laughed, rolling her eyes, but still tense and at the ready in case her friend decided to spurt off on a head start. "What do ya say?" Thank somebody upstairs for comic relief! And Styx, too. He's the only one who doesn't seem to have a) and attitude problem b) chronic depression or c) lack of humor lately! And hey -- maybe I'll even get to catch a fish today! Doubtful, but still, one can hope. And if all else fails, we can always just go swimming.

Styx also crouched down. "I'll definitely beat you. You'll be so far behind that I'll already be finished eating a piece of fish before you arrive!" I need a shortcut that'll help me win. I don't know any shortcuts though. Maybe I can devise a way to slow Meg down. He smirked and stared straight ahead. "Ready when you are."

Meg narrowed her eyes with determination, nodding once. "I was born ready, Styx! Not so sure you can beat that!" She turned, eyes trained on the camp exit. "Let's do this. On three, no cheating or the mist will eat you." She shuffled her paws, took a deep breath, then started the count down. "One.....two.....three!" Her paws surged into action and soon, she was flying past the camp exit and out into the Sheeran territories. Holy crap! I forgot about the mist -- this is gonna make things way more difficult.....ah, well, it could be an advantage if I stay on course... She squited and shifted her form so she was slinking low to the ground and a swift, vigorous pace. To her surprise, she could see a vast amount better if she remained lower, underneath the majority of the fog. She smiled, continuing along at a pace that accelerated gradually until she'd mastered a nice race pace while remaining low so she could still see. Take that, Styx!

Styx ran with his head half way lowered and his eyes squinted. He could barely see his own paws let alone where he was going. He tried to follow Meg's scent, but the mist easily wiped it away. He was not going to give up though. I must think of a way to win...but how. I could 'accidentally' hurt myself. Meg might come running back. He smirked and kept running a few distances before he purposely tripped. He bit a cut onto his paw and yelped in pain. "Oi! I can't feel my paw!"

A yelp behind her from Styx brought Meg to a thoughtful pause. She knew she shouldn't hesitate ; if Styx was hurt, she most certainly should go back and help him. Reluctantly, she sighed and maneuvered her way back towards her companion. "Hey, are you all right?" she asked him, standing a few feet away still, at what was probably the edge of visibility for Styx. He doesn't really look seriously injured or anything....

"I...can't feel my paw," Styx answered. "It's bleeding, too. I must've hit a sharp branch, or something. What if it gets infected?" He started licking his injured paw. He was smirking on the inside, though. She fell for it. All I need is for her to come closer, and then I'll dash away and laugh at the same time.

Meg frowned, severely disappointed. So much for a fun day hunting by the river....well, I guess I could get Terralisa or someone else to come with me... She tried to hide her small upset at this news when she looked up at Styx. "Well....we really aren't that far away -- I can still see the camp from here. You'll be find to walk back by yourself, right?" she woofed.

"Um... I don't know." Styx got up and started limping. "There must be a piece of branch in the cut. I can barely see it in this fog though." Heheh. My plan will finally work soon! I should do these pranks more often.

Meg wrinkled her nose. "It's only a few feet...." she murmured, a bit taken aback. Since when has a mere splinter ailed Styx? "It doesn't look very big from where I'm standing...." she woofed honestly. What's he playing at? It's not like he always acts macho and tough guy and stuff, but really, it looks like a teeny weeny little twig.... She stared at him, a puzzled look crossing over her.
