The night was dappled with starlight and the presence of the moon. The forest air was cold and the arrival of snow could happen any moment with the comming clouds threatening to block the stars and moon. The sounds of the forest were silenced at night and the only sound was the pawsteps of Zandochi.
A doe drank from the rapidly freezing water. A small fawn was by her side grazing from a little plant. Hiding amongst the shrubs and the snowy ground. Zandochi stalked his prey with stealth. He weaved his way through the shrubs and some fallen tree limbs. He rolled in snow to hide his scent and to camoflauge his pelt. The only thing that would stick out would be his eyes. Confidence was rapidly creeping inside him with every pawstep twoards his prey. The doe looked weak from hunger so his target was her. The closer he got his confidence was going wild. Suddenly, a snap of a twig sent the doe into an instant run. She was suprsingly fast for one so frail looking, but then he wondered if she was only naturally slender. The fawn was galloping away at a more chasable pace. Zandochi threw himself into a run and chased down the fawn. The fallen branches were obstacles for both predator and prey. The fawn leapt and weaved expertly through the underbrush while Zandochi struggled and stumbled ands oon gave up. He panted hard and the cold did not help his breathing. The water was cold too but he needed to drink something.
As Zandochi lapped up the icy cold and refreshing water he gazed at the sky and with utter disappointment the snow clouds were here and then a shower of snow fall ethereally floated to the ground. Zandochi disliked the snow and wished the warmth of the spring air would come soon. While wishing for the winter season to end. Zandochi laid down near the waters edge serveying his surrounding.
