The landscape was whitewashed in a fresh downy snowfall, though the birds had been twittering about earlier, beckoning in the Spring. It seemed to Neva that Spring would never come again -- they'd been trapped in a world of cold and dreary snowfall for far too long for her liking. The female was winding her way through the woods now, alone, for another training session with her mentor, Ligua. She had perk in her swift, eager steps as she moved through the baren barrage of trees. Winter will be over in a few moons, she told herself, always the optimist. As she came into sight of her destination, the Hoot Hollow, she picked up her pace and loped merrily to the setting of her latest training session. I wonder what Ligua will be teaching me today? Hunting or fighting? Or something different alltogether? While she awaited the arrival of her mentor, she skipped about the clearing, eyeing the many hollows in the black, gnarled trees for the infamous hooting residents. I wonder what it's like to be an owl...

A spray of snow nearby announced the arrival of Ligua, if accidentally, one of his back legs having plowed through a mound of fresh powder. He didn't mind, though. At least he hadn't tripped.
He trotted into the clearing, glancing around at the leafless trees. I probably should have planned something. I'm not that great of a mentor, am I?
"Hello." Ligua nodded at Neveria. "Er..." His words seemed to float away from him, onto muffling banks of snow. "So, let's begin, I guess." There was a small silence, then Ligua blinked as an idea came to him.
"...I've decided... that perhaps our lesson today should be whatever you'd like to learn." He blinked again, worried about what his neophyte might think of this. "I found that I learned better when I was interested in the subject, before, when I was a... er, loner, so I just thought perhaps we could change the lesson plans up a bit. Who knows? I might learn something too. Of course, you don't have to if you don't want to."
He looked at Neveria, awaiting her answer, already formulating other plans in case she decided otherwise.

Neveria immediately put an end to her 'puplike' play and sat hastily as Ligua joined her. She woofed a soft greeting, then perked her ears, listening intently. She mulled over his words, thinking hard. She was deep in thought, but the excited glint in her eyes was unmistakeable as she did so. Well, we did simple hunting last time, and I've mastered that now. I do need to learn how to hunt bigger prey with another wolf or two sometime, but let's think about the necessities first. It's not like I'm going to forget how to catch a rabbit anytime soon -- I think I've pretty much got that one down. We haven't really done any battle training yet....and I am really anxious to try. I'll be able to surprise Tria next time she gets too mouthy for my taste! She smiled hopefully up at Ligua, and asked tentatively, "...Can we do some battle practice, Ligua?"
