xx WOLVES OF THE MIST xx
A Wolven Legend
xx Note xx
*Please read rules first
Before you read this, please understand this did not happen overnight, and we didn't just come up with this all at once. In fact, Plot one was finished and plot two was halfway in the making by the time we figured out our backstory. It didn't take on full-fledged clarification until after that second plot, either. The thing that really sets this place out from other rpgs is probably this factor ; we go on instinct, on muse, on whim to create our stories and plots. THIS is the imagining it thing I was talking about. Yeah, I know I sounded kinda corny after a while.....but this is the good stuff.
*2nd half of codeword is here.
xx Backstory xx
When the world began, it was devoid of most life. A single lupine divinity roamed his creations alone, surrounded by nothing but the empty forest and his golden splendor. It was a lonesome existence, even for a god. And so, he forged and created the pack culture out of nothing but his own imagination. Great woodland herds emerged into the world, creatures of small and large stature, but the truest connection he felt with any of his many creations was the one he felt towards the wolves. He wished them to be smarter than the others, to live as he lived and saw as he saw. And so, Golden Wolf created five supreme wolves, who each held twelve immortal lives and could only be struck down in battle. He named them each and gave them their own pack of fellow wolves to lead; Verlust led her malicious Blood Mist; Lupus headed the clever and shadowed Night Mist; Sky led the witty Shimmering Mist; Wind led the brooding Storm Mist. The last, Mira, was patient while she waited for the other leaders to be named. Golden Wolf set her apart from them so that she would bring the culture of the packs to the mountains. Golden Wolf gave them free will, a gift which most wolves would later call a curse. Despite his carefully crafting paws, the packs of Golden Wolf’s creation erupted into war and nearly destroyed each other completely. He kept true to his word and did not intervene, but in the end, Sky and Wind, lovers, were obliterated by Lupus and Verlust, also lovers. Verlust turned and murdered Lupus in cold blood, then fled the packlands. The packs, shattered, fled the valley for a new one, across the mountains, desperate to forget and rewrite their past.
xx Plot One: Life & Death xx
When the packs reached their new home by Mirror Lake, they replaced their old names with new ones; Storm Mist became Grey Mist, Shimmering Mist became Silver Mist, Night Mist became Black Mist, and Blood Mist divided in half. The first half of Blood Mist did not journey to the new territories, and chose to remain Blood Mist, searching for Verlust. The second half became the polar opposite of the old Blood Mist wolves, naming themselves White Mist and being famed for traits like compassion. For a long time, the wolves lived in peace with one another, save for the expected skirmishes. Over time, they forgot their history. However, Blood Mist returned under the leadership of a brute named Bloodsbane. This new Blood Mist worshipped Lupus incessantly, oblivious that their idol Verlust had abandoned him in the darkest hour. Blood Mist terrorized the packs for many moons, bringing with them a darkness that never ceased and winter in summertime, as their presence disturbed the balance of the packs. Lupus sired two children in an attempt to fully take over the packs and achieve vengeance over his forefather, the Golden Wolf. The children were named Death and Flame. Flame was kept secret by her mother, Redfang, and given to a Yozoran warrior to be raised as a true pack wolf. Death was the opposite, and became the fiendish leader of Blood Mist. A prophecy was set in stone, predicting the outcome of it all:
A darkness is coming, sinister and wild,
The Earth held in the paws of one small child,
Death, he will be named, a wolf who cannot be tamed.
He and his enemy are the same;
Flame, she will be named, a wolf who’s been drenched in pain.
Rip, Tear, Slash, Kill, these wolves will fulfill Death’s will,
Burn, Ember, Silenthowl, Light, these wolves will fight for the right.
The sky will burn, a crimson night,
Where the wolves will stand for their last fight.
Lupus’ hatred was tempered by the love of a she-wolf named Rhain, goddess of spring. Seeing the error in his ways, Lupus tried to stop Death in his path of destruction, but the battle came to be despite his efforts. Flame represented life for Death, and vice versa; they could only be destroyed by each other. Brother and sister fell into the Mirror Lake, Death finding his sanity and murmuring the simple words “I’m sorry,” before he and Flame drowned. And the sun rose once more.
xx Plot Two: The Wolven Trail of Tears (The Journey) xx
After many moons of prosperous times, prophecy came again to the packwolves. War started between the Silver Mists and Grey Mists over petty words and false accusations. More aware of their roots, they turned further away from Golden Wolf and instead looked to their deceased for aid, as well as Sheera of Autumn, Rhain of Spring, and Feather of Summer. The Winter divinity remained at unknown. In the flurry of a particularly vicious battle, seven wolves vanished from their places altogether (Arroyo, Tundra, Blue Moon, Tumbleweed, Liviana, Torn, Faun). They became known as the Vanishings. The reappeared in the Blood Mist camp, face-to-face with Verlust, champion of the new Blood Mist, herself. They were saved by seven nobles, some dead, some alive, known as the Rescuers (Haze, Wisteria, Svetta, Dusk, Adawolfa, Jag, Faerie). The Rescuers sacrificed existence so that the Vanishings could warn the packs. Verlust’s Blood Mist was back and reigning terror like never before; her beta, Babylonia, was a living nightmare, and the pack was full with terrifying denizens. The Silver Mist/Grey Mist conflict was ended abruptly, and the wolves received a new prophecy:
Bones break and blood drips,
Eyes grow bloodshot and hearts rip,
The cruel goddess Verlust
Has erased every drop of trust,
There will be seven,
Who reach the one last heaven,
Who stop the blood and war,
Who no wolf noticed much before,
To end the heartbreak and the tears,
To erase the panic and the fear,
So let them light the way
To the last safe place.
The packs fled, once more, across the mountains in hopes of escaping Verlust. Verlust followed, and a great battle ensued. Siveria, alpha of Silver Mist, challenged Verlust to her title of goddess of Winter. Siveria’s guard consisted of the seven vanishings, saved by seven rescuers, against Verlust’s guard of seven. (Scar, Zeffen, Sylvana, Guts, Assyria, Risika, Snare). Seven times three, on the twenty-first of December. Many wolves died that day, including both Verlust and Siveria, but Siv managed to do what she set out to before death. The packs moved back into the first valley of their ancestors, stricken by the sacrifices they had seen…
xx Plot Three: The Plague (The Spirit Wood) xx
At the arrival at their ancient homeland, the packs renamed themselves a third time, to honor the deceased leaders of the Mirror Lake; Black Mist became the Yozoran Pack, after Yozora; Silver Mist became the Siverian Pack, after Siveria; Grey Mist became the Destinian Pack, after Destiny; White Mist became the Sheeran Pack, after Sheera. Pack life became increasingly monotone with the new generation, who knew little but safety and understood little of Blood Mist. However, war disturbed the lands once more, creating great rifts with the packs. On the brink of a second complete pack war, disease took a swift hold of the lands. No herb the healers used could treat the malady. If the victims survived, insanity was the outcome. Worse than rabies, and highly contagious. They were without a prophecy or proclaimed end, and a mysterious assassin was killing off packwolves. Nine wolves followed an elder healer, Silence, into the woods, eager for answers. (Sirius, Sothis, Tisana, Coal, Asha, Artem, Kunai, Anelie, Shadow). Until now, Silence had been ‘mute’. She gave them this prophecy:
I took one big breath,
That was the end,
I will learn to live again,
Until then, I’m broken,
I coughed, I shed,
I shoved, I bled,
Still no prevail.
I need to break out,
The nine is the key,
The drug is the cure,
Now run, don’t scream
The war lives on.
Silence was truly Mira, fallen leader of the mountain pack. Her pack was long extinct, but her immortality kept her from death. She had traveled long, and made the mistake of sleeping in a place known as the Spirit Wood; the dark spirits had taken her voice, and the lighter ones had given her a prophecy to carry. Silence led them into the Spirit Wood, the only place to locate the cure for the plague, under the time of nine minutes. When they emerged, Silence was trapped by the assassin – Lily, daughter of Bloodsbane. Silence and Lily died as the Spirit Wood dispersed. The wolves carried their cure to the packs, both confused and tormented by what they had seen.
xx Plot Four: The Resurrection of Hellfire xx (current)
Time passed, as it always does. The natural animosities in the packs passed back and forth, resulting in nothing of consequence. The young generation of wolves knew little of their background, and had few worries. The Moonless Meeting in July exploded this serenity with a blazing fire. Smoke clogged the forest for many moons, and invisible denizens murdered and kidnapped wolves from the packs. The smoke is cleared now, and some of the taken are returned, but more death and treachery emerge as the wolves are faced with dead realization: the wolves of Hellfire, lupine hell, have come to earth once more.
xx Thus Continued xx
This site was started on July 3rd of 2007, between 5-7 pm central U.S. time. (The exact time is unclear due to differing time zones between myself and proboards at the time of making it.) Up and running for more than two years
I was the one who set up all the boards and administrative stuff like that, sure, but I could never have done any of this without some of my best friends ; whether you are a new member, or you've been a part of this site for as long as its been going, you are now officially a best friend of Sivvy xD.
So basically, if you ever want to double check something with the plot, just peek into the side box for the current plot to the side of this screen or look it up in this thread. (And remember, the second half of the codeword is always here. The first half is in the rules thread. If you're not sure what that is, please go read the rules. *nods*)
Unlike some sites, we work with one URL and we don't create more "versions" of the site. It will always be the same rpg, no matter how long it lasts or how far our charries wander, etc.
So here's to many years to come, and whether you are an old member referencing here, or a newbie reading this for the first time,
W E L C O M E !
