Ligua stood in the forest, the trees casting long shadows across his pelt.
The decision that he was trying to come to struggled back and forth across his mind.
There is nothing for me here. I have had every opportunity in the world, and I thank the fates, if there are any, and certainly my pack. But it has all come to naught. Nothing.
Look at me now. I will probably never have a mate, I have no relatives, my friends are dead, and my efforts to help the pack are... middling, if best.
He caught the distinct whiff of self-pity in his thoughts, and waved it off. As he saw it, he was trying to state the facts, but he was biased by the obvious emotional potential of his thoughts. They were personal, after all.
I helped to save Sabela, but... I think nothing really came of that. I hear they have a new alpha now. I was assigned to train Neveria, but I failed.
Ligua paused for a minute and closed his eyes as he remembered. He had once trained Neveria in these very woods. Shaking his head, he went on with his silent monologue.
She's gone over to the Blood Mists, I hear. I made some friends, or the nearest to friends I had here. Crow and Saskia are dead, and I haven't seen fit to force my company on the ones that still remain. My search for my sister, the one remaining family member that I might still have, is dead-ended. I've all but given up.
The pack might need me still, I don't know. That's the only reason I might stay, out of loyalty. But I'm no use to them this way.
Ligua made his decision. No one needed to know he had left. They would find out soon enough.
Softly, he padded out into the loner lands, lighting out for the territories.
I need to find myself.
