Everest batted at a clump of moss, smiling with satisfaction as it rolled about the nursery. The young, dusky grey brute lunged and attacked his green enemy with force and determination. In a matter of moments, his plaything was reduced to a few shreds of tattered moss. He pushed it together again with his small paws, ready to repeat his favorite passtime.
In the corner of the nursery, Nyra watched with silent interest. She scarcely ever joined in with the other pups' games. In this way, she was much like her mother. However, today Nyra decided that watching was no longer as fun as originally thought. She bounded over to her brother with excitement and batted the clump away from him. "Catch me if you can!" She laughed at his bewildered expression. "Didn't think I COULD have fun, did you?" She giggled, still taking pleasure in his utter shock.

An ebony pup-- his flank streaked silver and long black claws digging into the ground beneath him-- watched the two play. He was pratically of neophyte age, but very shy... He watched Nyra and Everest longingly, wanting to ask to join their game... but he felt to awkward trying to ask. And thus, Ashai watched.

Nyra glanced Ashai watching them, and blinked kindly at him. She abandoned her brother and his clumps of moss. The younf, light grey wolf padded on small paws over to Ashai. She sat next to him and inclined her head in his direction. "I'm Nyra....and don't worry, I'm sorta shy, too. In fact, I don't usually talk to anybody but my brother...this is a first. So...er...what's your name?" She whispered awkwardly. It was true, now that she really thought on it. Nyra had never once spoken to a wolf besides her brother.

Ashai's ears went back slightly, surprised that Nyra had ventured over to him. Eyes glancing at his paws, he nervously answered, "Ashai." His pale gold eyes slowly raised to look at Nyra, trying to ignore the instinct to make himself invisible. "I don't even really talk with my brothers or sisters," he admitted in a soft tone.

Nyra nodded, and said nothing for a long while. "Who are your parents?" She managed after the silence seemed unbearable. Normally, silence was her ally and she was flocked to it often. She embraced it, and it cleansed her. Now, it seemed important NOT to let the silence take over. For some odd reason, she finally felt the need to break out of the small shell she'd made for herself.

Ashai's eyes gleamed with amusement. "Toss and Crescent... I have lots of brothers and sisters." It was well-known that Toss and Crescent had the largest family, with three or four generations of wolves living in the same pack at the same time. He glanced at his paws again. "They mostly ignore me, but I'm fine with that... It's better than getting picked on."

Nyra's eyes widened. "With all do respect, your family confuses me! I've tried to figure out who's all related to who and in what way....I gave up!" She smiled. "My parent was Nirvana...she didn't last through having me and Everest....but that's okay. She just watches us from the stars. It's a little far away, but she's still there," She told him.

Ashai's lips twitched in a smale smile. "I wouldn't worry-- my family confuses me too... especially my dad." He tilted his head as she spoke of Nirvana watching from the stars. "I've always wondered if my older brother and sister watches me from the stars..." He tilted his head up. "...I think they are..."

Nyra nodded, resisting the urge to ask which brother and sister he meant. She tilted her small head to the stars as well, smiling as they shimmered brightly. "We'll be with them some day, but for now, we follow the paths of the living...." she murmered, more to herself than to Ashai.
Everest was fast asleep in the mossy nests of the nursery. He didn't seem to notice Nyra and Ashai at all. Loud, thunderous snores emmitted from him. XD

(Lol-- Everest sounds like my dog XD)
Ashai shrugged. "I don't even know what I can do for this pack..." he murmured quietly. "All I can do is watch-- my brother says that I need to fight."

( ha! XD )
Nyra sighed softly. "Fight? But where is the courage, the dignity in that? Courage is not a wolf with claws outstretched. Courage is when you know you're damned before you begin but you begin nevertheless. It is rare to go far, but sometimes you win. And fighting might be necessary, yes, but it is not something to boast or brag about. It is not a way of life, but merely a part of it," she told him.

"Tell that to my brother," Ashai yawned. He shook himself briskily, adding, "I'm not a fan of fighting, really... I'd like to try hunting, but...." He shrugged. "....I haven't a clue how."

Nyra thought on this. "Well...I know you have to crouch real low, then slink forward....like this!" She got down close to the ground and moved forward...slithering like a snake. Nyra had the main idea...she just didn't understand that she hand to crawl, not slither. XD

(lol, I'm enjoying this thread XD)
Ashai copied her movements.... At least, he attempted to copy her movements. He ended up falling, feet sprawling out in all different directions and stomach flat on the floor. "Ouch-- hunting is hard," he laughed.

Nyra nodded in agreement. "Everest and I tried it just outside the nursery today....it makes your belly burn if you go too fast!" She added, seriousness in her tone.
XD I agree with that statement.
