Carolina layed with grey eyes closed in her lush nest of fur and moss. She did not sleep, however. The lovely femme merely tossed and turned back and forth as she wrestled with the sickness brewing inside of her.
She was sick, but stubborn. She'd been in to see Sedaka only once, and he'd told her to take some tansy and get some rest. So, this was what she was attempting to do.
Only she was unable. Her lids flew open once more, frustration and exhaustion mingling into anger at herself. She coughed and sputtered a bit, then resigned to simply lay there, eyes open, staring at the roof of the cave.

Sothis lay solemly outisde the resting dens. Staring at nothing in particular. The sickness around him was evident. Yet, somehow, he remained healthy. It disturbed him greatly. Sothis should be happy that he was immune. Yet, he felt angry, frustrated. Other wolves were getting sick. Why wasn't he? He should be the one suffering! If he hadn't been so afraid he could have gotten to Destiny. Warned her. The alphess would still be alive. It was his fault Destiny was dead, his fault Akaira was banished. Yet, Destiny had simply forgiven him. Come to him in a dream and told him that it was not his fault. Sothis had loved Destiny, she had always taken him for what he was. It didn't matter that he was a total freak to her. He was still a member of her pack. Destiny had been his friend. And now, she was dead.
The young brute pulled his tail over his nose and curled up in a ball. He lay in the shadows near the den now. No one would see him unless they really looked. No one would look.

Carolina, after much intense staring at the cave roof, had come to simple conclusion. She resented herself. It was plainly apparent, really. She'd been a traitor before she was even a neophyte. She was a failure as a neophyte. And now she was sick and probably infesting the rest of the camp with her disease.

Sothis was about to start cursing and snarling. The brute paused. Not here. I don't want to disturb the rest of my pack. His top lip was drawn back halfway. The brute stood. Still standing in the dark shadows of the camp Sothis turned his pools on the entrance to the resting dens. Silently, ghost like, he crept towards it. Glancing around him he stuck his head inside the entrance. The den seemed empty. Sothis did not notice Carolina. Swiftly Sothis darted into the den. Half snarling , fur on end he slunk towards the darkest, lonelist, blackest corner of the den. The farthest away from the entrance and the pack as he could manage without leaving camp. The brute slunk right past Carolina. In his angry frustration he still did not notice her. The femme he loved. The snarls and waves off anger raked through his form. Stabbing him, theoretically speaking, burning him. He hated himself and everything about him.

Alarm surged through Carolina as snarls errupted from an unknow source. Stading up, fur on end, she realized they had come from Sothis. Letting her fur lie flat, she forced her puls to return to normal. "Sothis? What are you doing?" she rasped, confused and nearly fearful. What had become of the wolf she loved?

Sothis whipped around. Snarling angrily. The brute stopped so abruptly that he bit his lip open. He swiped his tounge over his maw. Cleaning off some of the blood. The brute's pelt was still pricked. Sothis deep midnight pools were filled with frustration and anger with himself. The brute had ceased his angry snarls as soon as he realized who was speaking to him. Carolina. The femme he cared so much about. Carolina was sick. The sickness radiated from her in waves. Sothis could feel the tears brewing behind his lids. Turning away he slunk farther into the darkness of the den. Tail between his hind legs. Carolina seemed scared of him. He hadn't meant to frighten anyone. Especially not her. That was why he had been so quite and tried to keep his anger hidden. He'd succeded until now. "Nothing." As much as Sothis was trying to hide his anger again, his efforts failed. Sothis could never seem to fake his emotions around Carolina. The frustration in his voice had been obvious. The brute cursed himself angrily.

Carolina frowned. "Now why do you do that, Sothis?" She murmered. "I know that's not true, and I know there's something wrong here." she rasped. She fell into a a violent coughing fit, slim, slender form wracked with spasms of pain. A few drops of blood stained her fur, but she licked them away, hoping Sothis hadn't noticed.

Sothis pools darted back to Carolina. The frustration replaced by a deep sadness as she fell into a fit of coughing. "Carolina, I could have saved Destiny's life. I could have saved poor , young Akaira from being banished from everything she knew. From her home. I could have done something. But I didn't" Sothis moved farther away from her. Lying down in a scentless, abandoned nest. The brute curled up into a tight ball. "Why does everyone else have to get sick. They should all be healthy and happy. You should be healthy and happy. I should be the one suffering. Not you. Not anyone else." Just the thought of something horrible happening to Akaira made his fur prickle. Made him shiver. It hurt like hell, the thought of something happening to his be-loved Carolina.

Carolina shook her head. "No. You're wrong, Sothis. Even if Destiny had known Loni was after her she wouldn't have done anything to stop him. You and I both know that. She ordered us to stay still, and to not do anything. So that's what we all did, Sothis. We did what she wanted us to. There's nothing else to say about it!" She rasped, coughing again. More blood oozed from her throat, but she pretended not to notice.

Sothis raised his crown now. Auds perking. A fearful look came into his pools as he gazed at her. Sothis un-curled himself. The brute rose, silently, to his paws. A strange look in his eyes. Sothis padded, hesitating every few steps , towards Carolina. The brutes pelt was laid flat again. A deep sadness floated over him now. Not frustration or anger anymore, just a deep sadness. Sothis stopped. Inches from Carolina. He reached forward and touched his nose to hers. Then the brute moved farther forward. He moved close to her. Wrapping her in a wolfish hug.

Carolina sighed, eyes shut tight. She couldn't deny the facts any longer. It would occurr sooner or later, and perhaps it wasn't good for Sothis to be close to her, or anyone, for that matter. "Sothis...I...." she paused, tears excaping her storm cloud eyes. She swallowed, blood oozing in a steady, crimson river down her rugged throat. "I'm going to die, Sothis."

Sothis could feel the tears now. They were trying to escape his eyes. No. They had already escaped. He felt his body shudder. Once.Twice.Three times with the silent sobs. Then he got his emotions under control. Sothis released her from his hug. The brute rasped his tounge over her muzzle. Then touched his nose to hers once more. Finally, the brute backed away, barely, but away. For a moment, he turned his eyes to the ground. FInally, the brute pulled his gaze upward. A new fire, a determination burning deep in his midnight pools. "No." He locked his gaze with hers. "I will not let that happen to you."

Carolina, despite her own tears and desperation, knew this could not be. She knew what would happen to her, and that there would be no stopping it. She's simply run out of luck and second chances... "Sothis....my heart might rest in your paws, but my life rests in the paws of the Twilight Wolves," she whispered, eyes flickering with torment. She wanted to live a life with him, wanted to be with him.... but that could not be. It simply couldn't be... ( Yeah. Uh, Carolina? Your knight in shining armour is gonna come save you! XD )

(XD)
Sothis glared at her now. A fierce anger blazing deep within his eyes. Within his heart. In the very depths of his soul. A rage so strong he trembled. The brute snarled. "You speak as if you think there is no one who can save you." He snarled the words. Glaring bitterly at her. Backing away from her the brute's un-sheathed claws scraped against the den floor. His fangs glimmered in the dim light as he pulled his lip back in a frustrated snarl. Eventually, his vicious growling ceased. THough the deep anger still burned in his pools. "Don't you trust me, Carolina? Don't you trust me with your life?" He knew the question was a cruel one to ask. Yet he did not regret speaking the harsh words.

Tears welled in her eyes, her gaze pleading and hurt. "Sothis...just because I wish it would be doesn't mean it can be! Just because I would give my life for you doesn't mean it can be! Because I would, Sothis. I would do anything to stay here with you, to be the femme of your desires and dreams. But I can't! And god dammit it's not my fault and it's not fair!" She broke down, terrible sobs rippling through her ragged form. Her eyes were shut tight, pain coarsing through her.
