The rain poured down upon the field like a waterfall, but all the droplets in the world could not wash away the red from the once-green clearing. Bundles of fallen felines, some still clinging to life by a single thread, others long dead and beginning to rot, rest upon the soaked ground. Their living clanmates' tears added to the wet forest floor, dripping ever so silently into the pools of blood that lay beside their brethren. Amidst the carnage stood two cats, both equally wounded to the point of near death, facing each other and waiting for the other to attack. Neither cat spoke, only the rain and the sobs of the brokenhearted breaking the cold silence. Finally, one of the two, a light gray tabby with deep gashes down her flank, gasped at her opponent.

"Why?" She paused to cough up a considerable amount of blood, "Why Rabbitclaw? Why would you commit such a terrible sin, on the night of a Gathering no less, against your own sister?" She didn't look her brother in the eye, those cold gray eyes, because she knew there would be nothing there. No remorse, no sadness, nothing but sheer hatred. The brown and white feline who was her brother, his tabby markings hidden beneath the maroon colored liquid, merely smiled. Despite his exhaustion, he kept his voice steady as he replied in a deep voice. "You and I both know I gave up that name seasons ago, Fawnstar. I am now Adderstar, leader of Windclan, and soon to be leader of the forest."

Fawnstar finally gathered up the courage to gaze into her littermate's gray eyes with her own hazel ones and saw what she knew she would see. A mixture of hatred and insanity rested in her little brother's stare, the same mixture that had been there for who knows how long. Tears ran down Fawnstar's gray cheeks as she saw what had become of her cute little brother. Despite her tears, the Shadowclan leader looked her kin in the eye, all the pain and sadness and betrayal revealing themselves to the feline before them.

"Is this what you wanted?" She whispered, flicking her ringed tail at the massacre that surrounded them, "Is this murder, this carnage, what you craved for since the beginning?" Adderstar said nothing, his grin getting wider by the second, in response to his sister's questioning. He leaped at her, pinning the she-cat to the bloodied ground and pushing her face into the dirt. "Finally!" He screeched at her insanely, "Finally you'll get what was coming to you! It was always about little Fawnkit! 'Oh look at Fawnkit!', 'Amazing as always, Fawnkit!', 'Why can't you be like your sister Rabbitkit?' You were always everyone's favorite, no one gave a damn about weak and puny Rabbitkit! Well there's no Rabbitkit here! Only you and Adderstar!"

The excited tom-cat dug his claws into his sister's chest, deeper, deeper. Fawnstar's screeches of pain were drowned out by her brother's laughter. "Get off of her!" A Thunderclan warrior raced towards the two, alongside a Shadowclan apprentice. Before they could reach the felines, six rouges jumped out them, clawing their throats out and watching them bleed. Adderstar whispered into his sister's ear, "Favorite 'till the very end." He slashed at the she-cat's throat, taking away her final life. Adderstar was about to step off of her body, but something was speaking his name. Curious, he leaned down to listen to his sister's dying words. A strange light had come to her hazel eyes, making them shine brighter than at any point that she had been alive. She rasped incoherent words in a voice that was not her own, and the Windclan leader leaned down until his ear was up against her mouth.

"Snakes will come and rule the four, taking all but wanting more. Spawn of all the things he makes, six will come and slay the snakes."
