The crimson femmora slunk through the plains, copper eyes fixed on the shadowy figure in front of her. The doe was limping terribly, blood oozing from a wound in her leg. She reeked of fox scent, so Fireflight could conclude that she'd been attacked unsuccessfully by a fox. Well then, best put her out of her misery... Fireflight leaped, a crimson streak in the dark night. She landed square on the doe's back, black claws taking a hold of her prey. The doe's legs buckled under the weight, and Fireflight took the oppourtunity to severe her spine through a bite to the back of the neck. The doe went, limp, heartbeat shuddering to a halt. Fireflight closed her eyes and bowed her head, sending thanks to Wind for sending her the catch. She let out a hoarse cough, then frowned. The dow would be a little much to carry back on her own...she supposed she could try...

The rugged outline of the scarlet-russet brute slunk through the undergrowth, prowling foward and pausing when a lupine scent danced across his nostrils. Glancing up, he saw a femme nearby... coughing. Euphrates had not yet fallen ill, but he still felt that the sickness was inevitable. ...maybe, while I'm healthy... I can still help. He stepped from the shadows, perking his ears toward Fireflight. "Need any help?" he woofed, speaking softly with the calm voice he often used to speak to his brother.

Fireflight turned her head to see Euphrates, which suprised her a tad. The warrior usually kept to himself, his brother, and occasionally his neophyte as far as Fireflight knew. Not that she had any problems with him; she was just suprised to see him. "Sure! Thanks," she woofed, taking up the front of the doe. "Nice night," she mentioned, eyes lingering on the stars above.

Euphrates looked up at the sky, not moving and gazing at the stars-- like dancing embers of a fire suspended in the sky-- until he felt the silence all around him, comforting him. The wind running through his fur like gentle hands caressing his form, again comforting him.... comforting him like his mother had once did before he betrayed her and his family. Before he took his brother away from their mother. Murderous or not, she was family... And as the thoughts crossed his mind, Euphrates tore away from the wonderous sight and solemnly agreed, "Very nice night." Distractedly, he took a few paces foward until he had arrived beside his packmate, and kneeled down to grab hold of one of the legs.

Fireflight gave him an odd, curious look. "Are you alright? You seem a tad out of sorts," she woofed honestly. He words were genuine, and unlike some other wolves she had crossed, she truly meant the things she spoke.

As he usually did, Euphrates eyes flashed with a guarded look, as if shutting his emotions and the inner workings of his mind into lockdown. "I'm fine." But after a moment, the I'm okay facade faded away, and he looked down at his paws and lessened his grip on the doe. "Just... ghosts on my mind."

"Hm. We have something in common there," Fireflight woofed softly, eyes glazing over with pain. Her parents and sister had passed away not long ago, and fresh thorns of sorrow raked across her heart. "They never really leave....crazy stalkers...." she murmered, attempting to lighten the situation.

Euphrates' lips twitched in a small half-smile, apparently amused. "I know, right?" He tilted his head back, gazing more closely at the stars. "...you know, most of the time I look up there and think of the family I--" he paused, thinking of his betrayal "--that are gone now... but when I get past the feelings, the stars actually do look quite..." He trailed off, slowly inclining his head from the constellations blazing in the sky to rest his eyes on Fireflight once more. "...beautiful..." he finished softly.

( XD I love these two already ) Fireflight's copper gaze rose to the painted skies once more. "Yes...you know, I think some crazy elder tried to tell me stars were really spheres of violent flames that hung up in the sky, millions of pawsteps away. Again, I think he's crazy. Is fire really capable of that beauty? Most say stars are our ancestors, looking down. But really, I'm not quite sure...most of my family members weren't THAT pretty!" She smiled.

(of course-- they are meant to be XD) Euphrates let out a small chuckle-- this was one of the first happy moments he had felt in ages. "I'm sure they weren't ugly, either," he woofed. "But I don't understand about what you said about fire-- it's majestic, dangerous, and beautiful at the same time!" He flicked his ears and, after a short pause, added, "I'm not a pyro-- just saying." (...could there be a hidden message beneath all his wonderful words about fire?? Let's find out! )

( If they ever have pups, we should name one of them Pyro XD )
Fireflight shrugged "I suppose....I've actually never seen a fire, to be quite honest." She laughed, feeling rather ignorant.

(LOL XD)
Euphrates raised a brow. "Really? Well, I guess I couldn't blame you... I've only seen it when lightening strikes the trees during storm season. But... it reminds me of your fur." He ran his eyes across her pelt. "A nice red shade, just like that... flickering and dancing and changing..."

Fireflight smiled widely. "Well...I suppose I AM a pretty good dancer...." she giggled. "But I think I lack the art of flickering...."

The wolf grinned. "Well, fire behaves in different ways... each flame has a different personality. Apparently, you are the dancing type." He laughed. "And besides: all you need to do in order to flicker is to concentrate really hard..." He rolled his eyes.

"Oh, really?" Fireflight teased. "Well, then, show me how it's done!" She smiled mischeviously at him. "Oh, and I suppose I'm also pretty fast...can't catch me!" She nipped his ear lightly, then dashed away.
