The Grey Mist Pack Travels

Grug chuckled to himself. "Smooth moves, Silver. Is he really that hard to see against snow?" He winked at her just to show he was playing.

"You wouldn't know the difference to a pile of snow and a white wolf even if it hit you in the face." Zuni bit down a little harder on Grug's tail. "You okay, Silver?"

Grug paused for a moment and started thinking in his head. That made no sense. Oh well, Zuni never knows what he's talking about.

Silver laughed. It was a clear bell-like sound. As she rose, cold snow tumbled off of her flanks. Silver padded to Grug. Snow still clung to her fur. Standing near the brute, Silver shook her fur sending snow at Grug. Silver looked over at Zuni and smiled, touching her muzzle to his. "Yeah I'm fine, just a little snow-footed I guess."

Grug glared at Silver in a friendly way. "Oh yea, just what I needed. More snow!" He shook some of it off before he continued to keep walking.

"Snow-footed?" asked Zuni. "I've never heard that one before. Are you sure you're not just being clumsy?" He flicked his ears as a few flakes of snow landed on them.

Nirvana sighed with irritance. "This isn't the time for showing off or jokes. Do you want to die like Star? Tell me right now, would any of you give your lives to save your pack? Because Star just did! She could've let us help her, but she sent us away. That alone is selfless and an act of nobility. Now are you going to let her die in vain or are you going to accept her wishes? Any decent wolf would take this all seriously. To not would be to mock Star. So tell me, who dares to mock Star? She covered your sorry asses so show some gratitude!" Nirvana barked with exsasperation. She sped up, not passing Destiny out of respect, though her limbs were screaming to catch up with Svel.

"Oh shut your trap windbag" Silver growled. "We'll all die someday, no need to be sad about it." Silver turned and smiled at Zuni. "Snow-footed is what an old pack of mine used to call it when you'd get cold paws and your paws would go numb, making it easy to trip. Snow-sight is when you get hypnotized by the snow and get sleepy and clumsy."

Nirvana glared murder at Silver, a snarl on her maw. "Idiot." she murmered darkly. Had every wolf in Grey Mist lost sense completely? It would seem so... "So what? We're to celebrate the death of a packmate?" She challenged Silver. "Whatever. I don't really care of your ramblings, young'un." She sped up again, not caring whether she stayed with the pack or not. It was quite obvious they didn't respect opinions that contrasted theirs. Hadn't Star spoken up once? Maybe that was why they didn't care? This was no pack, then. This was no way to be wolf.

Grug continued on without another word. He watched as Nirvana ran off. He lowered his head and listened intently to the conversations going around.

Zuni smiled a little at what Silver said. If only we had a wolf that could easily cheer everyone up. But I guess... He looked back at where Star was. ...I guess everyone is a little angry right now.

Silver walked with Zuni. Her ears were deaf to the grumpy old femme. Instead she thought of other things, things to warm her like hazy summer days or blazing wildfires. It helped a little bit, at least some heat felt like it was getting to her icy paws. Silver brushed her fur against Zuni's as she walked, not really paying attention.

Nirvana finally caught up with Svel, fury burning along with tears in her light eyes. "I hate it here. I really, really hate it here." She spoke in a low tone to Svel. "What makes me a grumpy old windbag? They know well I'm no elder! I've never seen so much disrespect. She FREAKING DIED assholes! They only don't care because she didn't agree with all of them! And I'd be willing to bet a hell of a lot that they won't shed a tear when I pass, either!" Nirvana snarled.

Skysong bounded through the pack, having escaped from Bluefrost. The blue-black pup yipped in surprise when her paws slid on the ice, sending her skidding into Nirvana's paw. "Oops" Sky barked, scrambling up. "Sorry Nirvana." Skysong smiled at the other wolf. "Guess I should pay more attention." Skysong laughed lightly at her own clumsiness.

Nirvana offered the pup a half-smile. Skysong was a decent wolf. "It's fine, Skysong. Just be careful next time; I wouldn't want you to get hurt," she said kindly. She sighed heavily and began her sprint once more. She thought briefly of what she would do when Destiny called a rest. She knew right then she wouldn't rest with them.

Skysong smiled at Nirvana and got to her paws, weaving through the pack to run beside Sothis and Aliya. Sirius was at the back of the pack and had encouraged her to stay near her mother and brother since they might be stopping soon though it was unlikely. Sirius didn't want her dropping behind and being unable to find her in the snow.

A dark shape was hiding in the shadows, watching the wolves curiously as they traveled on. He smiled as he amused himself watching a few wolves yell at each other. Someone needs some Wolfgang lessons! The dark wolf stepped out of the shadows and looked around curiously. How can I do this without getting hurt?

Grug blinked a few times, thinking that he saw something up ahead. Maybe I'm going snow blind! He shook his head and continued on.

Silver's ears flicked up, deep green pools rising to scan the horizon. Snow whipped around her and the wind tore at her body like a thousand icy needles. "Is someone out there?" Silver asked, looking at Grug. "Or was that my imagination?" With the wind changing direction every two seconds it was impossible to track a scent unless it was a bunch of wolves moving as a pack like they were.

"That's what I've been thinking. Maybe its just a shadow..." Shadows can't move like that, idiot! Grug thought to himself. He wanted to go and see what it was himself, but it would seem awkward if its just turn out to be a shadow or whatever. "Do you want to try and take a look?"

"I do!" yipped Zuni. Then he paused, opened his eyes, and sighed. "Nevermind."
