Crunch. Crack. Snap. Break.
"So delicate, this forest is...." A heavy sigh issued from a large, muscular brute. Thinned peltage of black and blue-streamers cloaked the male, woodsy brown eyes eying the small lump at his claws with disdain. "Let me go, you fucking bastard--" The lump exhaled with a scream, whipping onto its back and twisting every which way. It's head lolled on its neck at a funny angle;; an impaired spine. Light and pinewood brown marked this apparently younger male. His captor had dressed him in elegant veiling of crimson strings. Entrails. His own. And silver dagger claws were impaled into the stomach wound once more, the young, newly claimed warrior writhing and panting in effort to stay conscious. "Silence! It's a funny thing they named you Weed, because you sound a hell of a lot more like a dried leaf when being murdered. Ah, well. You're not the first misnamed wolf I've come across." "LET ME GO---" CRUNCH. Weed lay like a mop of fallen leaves at the feet of his killer, no breath visible, no movement.... "I did it, Master Regulus. What should we do with the body?" ...except for the infinitesimal beat of his heart. "No, no, my eager learner. We must steal the soul, first, should we not?" "Steal the soul?" "No body is a body if it is both a body and a soul at once. and what power is there in a body? No, the sould is what shall be taken, and then the body discarded." The second speaker had a deep, gravelly tongue. He was monstorous, a coat of midnight handing on his shoulders, and red scars lacertating his body. One might've guessed he'd just run through barbed wire. "But how?" "By the laws of the wilderness, but the true will of the beast within! This is what you must embrace if you are truly to reach paradise within this world. This is what it means to be wolf. There is only blood, and nothing more. Only blood." "Anarchy?" "To someone who has not yet seen even another see clearly, then yes. But watch me, learner, and find for yourself what it means to be wolf." Regulus moved forward and dipped a paw into the hole in Weed's gut. "Feather of lead, snow of fire...."

Crouching in the brush, a figure shifted her weight to her haunches before creeping forward. Balancing in her position like an agile cat, she peered with a single aquamarine eye out into the light, narrowing it at that abomination she had witnessed. They don't seem like Damien, but yet... She took a careful step forward. ...are they undead like him? A resounding CRACK sounded from beneath her paws, like a gunshot in her ears. In a split second, the she-wolf was staring down at the broken twig under her flame-streaked paws. ...why does this always happen when wolves are spying!? Her cover blown, Sanceul hurriedly attempting to back out of the bush and run. Not good... not good... ugh, didn't someone tell me that I should keep my nose out of other people's business?

CRACK. "....eyes of displacement, ears of sly intentions! Arkantos, leave me and return to your Siverian home. Take care that you pick up the buck we downed earlier -- the blessed meat may give life to our cause in some of your current packmates, and it will give you a cover. Wash the blood from your paws, learner. Tonight is not the night for you to be accepted into the world as a true wolf. Soon, soon. I'll take care of the carcass. The spirit is probably worming free." Though the gash in his chest was wide and crimson painted, Weed was not yet dead. Dying, yes, but he could hang on for another hour like this, the up and down rise of his chest being miniscule and highly difficult to detect. "But what if he's still---" "GO! And whoever watches from the shadows, watches where eyes are not supposed to be, shall have said sight taken from them!" Arkantos retired, doing as he was instructed. Regulus' growl was deep and barbaric, and his massive shape moved into the remainder of the brush. His aura was invisible, but raged around him like a violet storm. Hate, murder, killing -- it radiated from him like the unseen, black heart of the sun. He was a magnificent, finely-tuned tyrant. His breath was hot and heavy as he sought to find the spy who had been listening in on what should've been an initiation ceremony. He brushed pelt for a moment, it was inches away from him, but he could not place what direction it was moving in.

Slowing her pace by fractions of a second, Sanceul glanced over her shoulder with a disgusted scowl painted on her face. You wanna take my sight, do you, furface? Well, then, bring it! I ain't afraid of no ghost! She stopped. ...wait.... what? Shaking the thought from her mind, she dove right into a depression in the soil, silently thanking the gods for creating her with the short limbs that enabled her to hide more easily in the thicket. She then swiveled around to face the entrance of the 'burrow' and prepared to strike the moment she saw the paws of her pursuer. Come on, partner-- let's dance, shall we?

A small brush and a shift in the air and black swirls were enough for Regulus to navigate himself properly. He dipped low, searching for limbs, but instead, finding a small depression in the ground. A growl spurred instinctively from him, and deepened into a gutteral sounding as he shifted the reins on his inner beast. "Hello there, piteous being. It's no wonder you decided to come here --- If I were you, I'd want to give up my soul to someone much better than myself, too. After all, why wasted it with a life being shoved in the mud?" He took a hold of her scalp with his teeth and pushed it hard to the ground, eyes wide and livid with wildfire. Tonight, the earth dines on rich blood that dapples the ground with majestic splendour...

"Hey, who you callin' piteous!?" But before her razor tongue could spill even a single insult, she felt fangs nailing hard into her skull. The pressure peaking as he shoving her into the earth, she let out a hoarse yelp, sticky scarlet sliding over her colored eye. Her black orb dimmly flickered back and forth in search of a way out. As far as she could tell, there was none. "...I may not value life..." she grunted painfully "...as much as the n-next wolf... b-but no way in H-Hell am I going out like t-this!" She squirmed desperately, swiveling on her back and kicking out her legs in her attacker's direction... she hoped. Suddenly, she hated the gods for making her so small.

He had been in a fantastic position ;; being over her while she was in the dip had been near perfect. But as he'd dug deeper into her skull, his feet had shifted to accomadate him, therefor not all that higher that the fae's own crouched form. And, though it seemed to have been a perfect kill, Regulus had stumbled upon a fighter who did not back down easily at all, to say the veyr least. He was knocked out, fangs ripped immediately from the gashes they had left. He was sprawled out on the side of the bend, where he lay for a few moments in the aftershock. He caught his breath slowly, but rose gingerly as he did so. He narrowed his eyes at the female, a grudging acceptence in his eyes. "Is there a reason you walked into my ceremony, wolf?"

With a muffled gasp, Sanceul seized the opportunity to roll onto her paws, despite the wonderfully terrible pain that echoed through her head. She watched through dimmed and bloodied vision at the wolf in front of her, drinking in his features with her eyes and resisting the urge to run, flee, and even the urge to blink. She would need full advantage to survive this encounter, and she was taking no chances. "Why does curiosity always have to kill the cat?" she growled in return, hackles rising a few centimeters from her spine. "I was simply assessing the situation of Tartarus. Are you one of those... zombies, or whatever they are?"

Regulus studied her through narrowed eyes, noting how she tensed, and also being bewildered at how his own self was relaxing. And then, she said it....and he burst into uproarous laughter. "Zombie? My dear girl, I'm just as much alive as you!" He chuckled. Shaking his head. It wasn't like him to act this way, kinder than usual. But many of the Hellfirian wolves had come to the conclusion that they must not be ruled by a single leader, but rather the laws they used to live by ;; the rituals and ceremonies that took place under Bloodsbane's rule, only they would refuse to succumb to a single wolf's rule -- every leader they had in the past had only taken them to the brink of extinction. However, this near extinction came after a time of prosperity. So prosperity seemed to be linked to traditionalism. And in traditionalism, they needed followers. And followers were not recieved by smashing wolves' heads into the dirt, though Regulus still longed to do so. It's such good fun! Ah, well...there will be another one soon enough... "What, or perhaps who, made you think such things? It's quite dangerous, you know, accusing someone of being something they are simply not. You never know if you're going to run into a lunatic. Good thing I'm not that, right?" He laughed softly.

Sanceul forced her fur to lie flat, with much effort on her part. Get a grip on yourself-- nothing's gonna be accomplished if your ready to spring at any second. Swishing her fox-like tail slowly to one side, she muttered, "Yeah... good thing." She narrowed her eyes. "But you act like those wolves from Tartarus-- whatever you'd like to call yourselves. I met one... and I was wondering if he was telling the truth... and judging by how you were hunting down that wolf over there," she nodded in the direction they had come, "it seems he was right. That's a BloodMist hunting style, isn't it? It looked that way by your words at the end."

Ahhh so this is a potential recruit? Interesting how she knows about the techniques we use. But who is this other wolf who told her these things...? "Ah, that....yes, it was a Blood Mist style of hunting. I'd prefer to call it Traditionalism -- the passing down of the ceremonies of true wolves, generation after genetraion. Tradition. It's a funny thing -- most wolves don't remember our rituals, seeing as almost none lived that witnessed them, and they have not been practiced in many years. The wolves who do recall them are probably long gone by now. So how is it you know such things?"

Almost immediately after he had finished speaking, Sanceul's ears were flat against her injured skull. She took a risk by breaking eye contact to look down at her paws while she answered. "...my mother... she knew a lot of things. She wasn't a Healer... more of a Gypsy of sorts... but she knew things like that... and she was famous for it, really." She quickly snapped her attention back to the brute, preparing herself just in case he decided to attack again, all while trying to control her tongue. I shouldn't be telling him personal things... maybe I shouldn't tell him about Blood... Her heart skipped a beat. ...but what if Blood ended up in Tartarus and came out with him? The possibility seemed all too real and likely that Sanceul practically shivered in discomfort. If that was the case, she'd need as much information about what had happened that she could get her paws on...

"A famous gypsy that studied the rituals of Blood Mist?" He asked, intersted growing rapidly. "Really? Then, chances are, I knew her. Out of curiosity, what's her name?" He asked. I can't place her face --- didn't help that I pushed it in the dirt, either. Ah, well, I'll get a straight answer, or I'll track her and figure it out by myself. No one is completely unknown to these woods ;; someone is bound to have something on who she is. Ha. I wonder what she thought about my lunatic comment... I'm sane, but not to be underestimated.

Sanceul immediately stiffened, hesitant to answer Regulus’ question. Not only was he a stranger—a complete alien to her—but he had also tried to kill her moments before. Why in hell should I trust him? Resisting the impulse to shout her thoughts out loud, she reminded herself that this could be an opportunity to see if Blood had ended up in Tartarus and had possibly returned to the earth with the others. “…her name was Blood,” the she-wolf responded flatly. “She lived on the outskirts of the BloodMist border, in Loner territory.” Before she could offer up any more information, she clamped her jaws shut. If your going to say something, don’t blab it all! she scolded herself. Keep the status quo.

Blood? What? She never had a mate, or children.....but then again, who knows what happened to her after Death's fall? She never showed up again -- not when Verlust assembled us. Was she even alive then? "Really? I didn't know her well personally, but I came in contact with her once or twice. She was another set of eyes for Blood Mist," he woofed, almost as if he doubted Sanceul would know this. "She was a good wolf, a friend to my kind. So, that being said, sorry for my stunt earlier. Any daughter of Blood's is no foe of mine."
