Solaris frowned deeply, taking a few pawsteps forward, out of the den's safe haven, as Moonwind struggled with the moose. He shook his head again and called out to her once more, "The pack doesn't need us being wreckless! We've lost it, it happens! Come over---" he broke off, eyes wide as the moose collapsed atop of her. He took a short dart forward, pausing again and sighing with momentary relief as she was up again, but continued forth once more with a growl as she kept going at the moose. "Moonwind, it's one hunt. There will be more moose -- caribou, too, when winter hits harder. We'll make up for it, I promise, but right now killing ourselves isn't going to help anything, no, not even the pack! Let's get out of here!"

She wanted to cry in frustration. She growled at him unwilling to leave her kill. She looked at him as the wind swept her a couple feet to the left. She looked sadly at her kill and howled a hunters song. The Short song was lost to the wind, but voiced her desire too bring it home. She snarled as she fought the wind to get into the cave. She didn't look at Solaris her sad blue eyes showing her dismay. She was clearly torn. She stepped into the cave and almost fell over as the wind stopped pushing her.She shook her caught and looked out longingly at the moose.

Solaris breathed heavily with relief when they both reached the cave, which broke the most bitter of the draftings. But here, at the edge of the den, they were still not protected from the blakc swirling mass moving closer and closer -- that thing was a determined beast, and just because they were pawsteps over a point where wind had no effect didn't mean the ravenous creature would give up anytime soon. The black wolf, pelt toussled and ragged now, gazed anxiously at Moonwind. "We need to go farther back -- we won't be safe from whatever the hell that thing is if we just stand here....we need to go as deep as we can and hope it doesn't cave." Ah, good Twilight this thing better damn well not cave!

Moownind nodded saddly and glanced one more time outside the cave to her prize then at the black vertex . She shivered and walked slowly back deeper into the cave. She stoped and looked back at Solaris to make sure he was coming. She took a little time to flatten and smooth her fur, after she reached the back. As her tounge ran over her silver fur she taseted bllod, but not moose blood. She licked her lips and slowly relized it was her own blood.

Solaris ducked down as the stone ceiling of the den lowered. He'd turned after Moonwind and slunk along the shadowy sides of the cave, trying to avoid any sudden blasts of air from the mouth of the structure that could send him suddenly off balance. He continued along like this for a few minutes, then straightened out and padded out into the middle of the narrow passageway when there was only a miniscule whisper of the frigid, torrential cyclone. He arched his back absentmindedly and stretched his sore, battered figure. Wet droplets clung in thick densities to his pelt, toussled and unruly from the crushing winds. He blinked and looked around the den, his sight coming not from a light source, but from the wolven nocturnal senses alone.
The back of the den was a foot in front of him, and Moonwind was licking her paw next to it. He sighed, scenting the air absentmindedly. Stale as it probably was, Solaris drank it in in great gulps -- the fire's poison had never blackened these walls or infected the air to scorch throats. Musty and forgotton as this place was, it was the perfect place -- and the only place -- for Solaris and Moonwind to stay for now.
Who knows how long this storm will last? I guess, if it calms down, we'll have to go out and see if there's any prey about. The storm will flood a lot of the ground creatures' dens....hopefully we will, if things just calm down a touch, be able to get back into the camp. It's not that far, but we don't have a prayer of getting back there now, what with that thing spinning around out there....
Solaris blinked, sitting down at the dry, slightly warmed and rough cave ending. He leaned his back agains the coarse stone, examining himself for injuries. Frowning deeply, he saw his paw -- the one he'd twisted earlier -- was purple and blue, blossoming with grotesque cuts and brusies. His entire body was heavily brusied, but his only other critical impairement besides his ankle was a large gash across one of his flanks. His nosed around for cobwebs when he caught sight of Moonwind's paw. "You're bleeding? I don't know a thing about healing, but I have seen Adrian and Lilly Pad use cobwebs for bandages. There aren't any herbs or useful things back here besides those, so let's hope it'll be enough for use to hold out...." he woofed, nosing up a few wads of the thick white webs. He used one of his good paws to push one towards Moonwind and then began, with gentle use of his teeth, to apply the temporary bindings to his own scarrings.

She pricked her ears and her features slide slowly into a smile. stood up and limped to him. Her bark was soft and musical on the ears, "I know a little about healing. I can help you if you want it that is." Her blue eyes twinkled kindly in his direction. She limped to him and barked again gently, "I trained as a herb healer before I was a warrior. My parents and the pack thought I was to small and weak to be any good as a hunter or fighter. I didn't like this idea so I started to skip my sessions as a healer and worked out.." She felt like any idiot for telling him this, she barley knew this male, and she was probably freaking him out. 'Damn my large mouth... I'm going to scare him off!'

Solaris' ears twitched with a mixture of interest and subtle releif. He needed to get his mind off of what was going to happen to them for now -- what good would into to fall into paranoia? Impairing his senses with panic and alarm was not a good idea. We're safe for now. It's better to shift gears to thoughts of other things. Worrying won't make anything pass faster....certainly not this...storm.
His eyes widened with curiosity. "Really? I know of only one other who did something similar, but that was long ago. I guess you never really know what your true path is unless you follow what you feel is right. And I wish we could find herbs right now, but nothing's growing but musty old moss in here....wait...." he stopped, a small smile forming on his maw as he continued to wrap his wound. "We haven't been able to find new moss since the fires....when the storm stops, we can bring some back to the camp!"

Her eyes britened up at this. "That is a great plan!" She wagged ehr tail and finshed his wounds. She inspected her work making note of what herbs she wished they had. She sighed deeply her tail still wagging, as she turned her eyes to him. A shiver ran down her spin. This was a musclure brute, no he didn't scare her but he was very interesting. She limped off a litttle and licked her paw. She had used all the cob-webs she could see on him. He was more important to the pack then a small female. She wound bleed and sighed. Her heart sank slightly as she saw how deep it really was. She could almost spot the bone. 'Damn it! If this get an infection in it it will be a dead paw.' She thought silently and licked it softly

Solaris glanced at her oddly again from the corner of his eye. "You know, you really should use some for yourself -- I'll be fine. I think there's still a wad in the corner behind you that you could use. Eh. If there are any grizzlies or things like that trying to flee the storm, let's hope they don't smell the blood...." he snickered softly, imagining the strange happening. "Now that would really be something. Sure, we excaped a swirling air-twist of terror, but how about a wet grizzly?"
He tucked himself together to make the most of his body heat. "So what happened next?" He woofed absently. "I mean, you started working out, but did the pack finally recognize you belonged among the warrior trainees?"

She listened then looked in the corner behind her and found a perfect size wad. She wrapped up her paw carefully and tested it. She could stand on it,but a grizzly fight? She shivered roughly at the thought and had to shake her fur to rid her brain of the thought. She walked a little closer to him and laid down in front of him. She settled down ready to give her story. She was surprised he had asked about it. "I had been training in secret for about a moon when my brother..." She had to fight to calm her bark from cracking, "got attack by a lynx. I was in a clearing a five minute run from him, he had been following me by the way. I was just warming up when I heard a scream from someone I knew so well it hurt my mental state just to hear it. I don't remember running after the sound or jumping on the lynx, but I remember the horrible pain as he sliced at my flank." She stops a second to show him a scar running down her side.

Solaris nodded, ears twitching in sympathy for her brother. Lynx attacks weren't exactly frequent -- they kept the creatures as far from them as possible -- but being a pack that loved the mountain slopes and bases, it wasn't completely unheard of for something to slip through their patrols and defenses. And when such things did happen, it was natural for the animals to go for smaller prey, meaning pups or neophytes. Well, hopefully he made it, right...?
"What happened to you and your brother?" he asked, both intereseted and now concerned. Please let him have lived...? I don't think she does have any living relatives, though, as far as I can tell....it's sad, but many of us don't anymore. He thought, with a flicker of sadness, understanding, and gratitude of Natalia. He was very lucky to still have his sister around.

She looked at him as her mind trailed to the memories of it wall. She bark was slow and dripping with emotion, "After what seemed like for ever a warrior showed up and chased it off. They had seen me fighting. My brother was torn to ribbons," She took a deep breath, "Thankfully he made it out alright he has a ton of scars running all over his body. I got off lucky, when my brother awoke he told the leader what had happened and I had been transfered to warrior training. I was so proud and so where my..." Her bark cracked with pain at the mention of her parents.

In an instant, Solaris felt both immensely guilty and tremendously uncomfortable with the current state of things. ....this is what happens when I try and start a conversation. I either weird them out, make them mad, or get them upset or uneased in some other way. Well....I've no idea how to fix this...ugh, why can't I have a way with words or something? Or like, be an empathetic.....sure, it would hurt, but at least I would have an inkling of what to do....
"Er...look, I'm sorry for being too nosy. I didn't mean to upset you or anything..." he woofed hastily. He wasn't used to wolves who openly displayed much emotion -- sure, he was used to things like easy-going steadiness, but Solaris hadn't really been confronted with this sort of thing before. The method he used to dispose of his own sadness did not involve others.....though occasionally he shared it with Natalia, but even that had become rarer and rarer across the moons.

She stood up and shook her fur to clear away the sadness. she slowly and carefully laid back down infront of him. She looked at him and slightly cocked her head at his words. A smile touched were wolven lips. "Oh, don't worry about it. I haven't had anyone to talk to in a long time. Thank you for listening." She barked in a gentle voice with honesty hanging on her words.

When she seemed to recover a little bit, Solaris relaxed slightly. But he decided that he did not exactly want to get back into the same situation again. Well, I can't just not say anything at all....well....um.....I guess I could try and find a safer path to travel as far as conversation goes, for now....wait....something's changing.... Solaris stood up, hairs standing on end, and crouched low to the ground. "I'll be right back....I think the storm's calming a bit....." He slunk through the narrow passageway, a dim, ghostly glow now lighting the way. It took considerably less time, now that he had passed it once and there was light again. He padded slowly to the edge of the cave, eyes wide as he peered outward. The woods had been mauled, murdered, stripped of its wild cloak. Trees laid broken and bleeding with maimed branches and open trunks piled on what was left of the forest floor. Solaris stared, gazing at the catastrophic scene with remorse and sadness flooding him. Eventually, he managed to call to Moonwind over his shoulder. "Moonwind! Come look!" The storm, truly, was ending, as the last rolls of thunder were receding. But a definite chill resided now in the valley; thick frost rested upon the burial grounds.
