Pretending To Sleep (Open!)

The night was still young, the crickets chirruping noisily from their grassy dens. Only a silver strand of moonshine hung in the sky, a sliver of white on a quilt of black. The air was hot, arid, sizzling with summer.

Tatiana rolled around in her nest, unable to find sleep she desperately needed. Rabbit fur and moss clung to her as she did so. She thrashed about shaking herself free from the tendrils, then peered around the seemingly empty den, a hot flush searing under her pelt. It's a good thing nobody else is in here. That was...er...embarrasing. Oh, well, I'm sure there's been worse. I wish there was something else to do but sit here, though. None of the other neophytes are around a lot it seems like....

Her brother, Etheris, was out Wind knows where, and Breeze was nowhere to be found, either. Besides these two, she really didn't know many wolves in the Destinian pack. I guess it's time to make new friends, seeing as those two aren't around a ton. Eh...that is, if any other wolves aren't sleeping...

[Njack]

"Oof!" There was a thudding sound, and then a giggle. Banana sprang up from his prone position, and then tried to stand on his head again.

Didn't work. Thud. "Oof!" It was then that he noticed Tatiana.

"Hi!" He bounded over to Tatiana, stopping a few inches away from her face. "Who are you?"

(I'm so unbelievably hyper right now, I can't even write a long post. XD)

Thud. Thud. Oof. Oof.

Tatiana sprang to a stand, strange noises echoing off of the back of the den. Her eyes darted around for the source of the noise, which had found her instead and stared her right in the face. She blinked a few times, wide-eyed, but immediately identifying this ball of fur as a Destinian. Pup or neophyte? I can't see past his face! It's everywhere!
"Er...hello. I'm Tatiana, who are you? Are you a neophyte?"
Her voice was both bewildered and amused. Well, I did want somebody to hang out with. I guess he makes up for my lack of energy. Well, I'm awake now, that's for sure.

Banana gamboled around Tatiana a couple of times happily. Then he stopped and let it all out in one breath.

"Hi,myname'sBanana!Yep,I'maneophytewannabemyfriend?" (XD)

He was still grinning like a fool, his tail wagging like it was about to fall off.

(Lol, "it's everywhere!")

Tatiana blinked her wide eyes at the dancing creature. Somewhere in his slur of words, she understood he was indeed a neophyte, and his name was...Banana? Yes, that was probably right. I think I've heard of him before...maybe not. Well, in any case, I have now. I guess I could use a friend, too.
"Er...sure! What do you want to do? I'm bored stiff, there's nothing fun around here to do alone!" She barked, tail wagging, a wide smile upon her maw.
Some wolves just walk in at the right time, I guess. Let's hope understanding him will get easier as time goes on.

[Njack]

Yay! I made a friend! Banana was a little bouncing bundle of joy.

"Oh! Um..." His tail still wagging frantically, he tilted his head to the side for a moment. "Wanna go exploring? Let's go to the other dens and stuff!"

Banana grinned, already bouncing towards the entrance of the den.

Shaking the last of the moss from her pelt, Tatiana scrambled eagerly out of her nest and beamed at her new companion. I've seen some of the other dens before...but I haven't really gone in many of them. "Sure," she barked, tail wagging cheerfully. It's better than just sitting here, that's for sure. She bounded to the front of the den, casting a glance over her shoulder to see if Banana would follow. "I'll race you to Fireflight's den!" She barked, having seen the alphess follow Euphrates out onto the terras a while ago. She probably won't be back for quite a bit, the lovebirds! She chuckled under her breath, wondering if Banana had noticed the two mates, too. "Fireflight 'n Euphrates are probably getting married on the terras, and she won't be mad if we don't poke around too much."

[Njack]

"A race?" Banana's ears perked up. "Let's go!" He watched Tatiana carefully (well, as carefully as you can watch someone while practically bouncing off the floor) to see when she would say "go!"

Say go! Say go! Say go! He scratched his ear. And what is this thing called "married"? Should I try it?

He tensed his leg muscles, ready to bound off at any moment and most likely bounce off a wall. Whoo hoo!

Well, he's not much for a conversation. I guess he just knows what he really wants to say and says it....fast. She slunk down into a low crouch, poised for the launch of their race. Her tail dropped with her, swinging side to side in lashing energy. He eyes focused on the lumpy boulder that formed the back of the alpha den, tracing the fastest route -- across the camp and around a small turn -- in her mind.
"All right then. I'll count to three, then say go...." She felt excitement pulsing through her, and snickered softly. "Last one there is a moose brain, got it? Moose brains are probably all gross and disgusting-like, which probably wouldn't be so great to be. All right..."
One last dramatic pause.
"Three, two, one....go!"
She rocketed off, paws thudding hard on the dirt and grass.

[Njack]

Moose brains? Banana thought about it for a moment. Are they squishy?

Hey, wait a second... Banana darted off after Tatiana, who was already ahead of him. The wind rushing past him made him smile, and his tail waved like a propeller. Because tails can't spin like propellers, that would be crazy.

Banana was following somewhat close to Tatiana. Maybe I could beat her! Yeah! But how am I going to speed up? He kept on running.

Then he got hypnotized by Tatiana's tail waving back and forth. Good job, Banana, good job.

Banana was behind her at first, but he caught up with her fast. She smiled as they ran side by side. Suddenly, Banana and his yellow flurry were gone from her sight -- he had fallen behind again. Curiosity and worry biting at her, she looked back over her shoulder, cracking into uneven laughter as the little wolf became entranced with the waving of her streaming tail. She sped up in the last leg of the race and came to a screeching halt at Fireflight's den, digging her paws into the ground -- throwing on the brakes. "AND THEY'VE REACHED THE FINISH!" She giggled, twirling around in dizzy circles. "Banana? You there? What do you want to do now?" She spun swiftly, looking around for the bouncy bundle of her friend. Should we explore the den a bit? Fireflight's still not back...she probably wouldn't notice or anything...

[Njack]

The crowds are everywhere, cheering! Woooo!

Banana tilted his head to look at Tatiana, having just arrived right behind her. If there was ever a moment when a wolf's face could be classified as "" it was right then. "Wow, this place is cool! Yeah! Let's look around a bit?" The grin was probably permanently plastered on his face. The chronic tail wagging would probably remain too.

He took a few steps to sniff at the closer object in sight, but then stopped, a thought worming itself into his brain. "Ummm... am I supposed to be a moose brain now?"

Tatiana gazed on, a bit unsettled now by Banana's persistant "". She shivered, then shrugged it off. He's just a little furry bundle of joy, he's not creepy-happy like CLOWNS or anything! Sheesh, I hate those things! She dipped her head and padded cautiously into the den, sniffing about at the curved stone walls and ceiling. "Sure, why not? And no, I'd say that's close enough to a tie, you aren't a moose brain. Still a wolf," she barked to him, tail wagging behind her, similar to Banana's. Hm. Maybe if I spend enough time with him I'll go all "", too. Huh...wonder what wolf nip he's been sniffin'!
"Oh! I know! We could pretend we're two alphas from our own packs and go around the camp doing alpha stuff!" She barked, excitement lighting her eyes. It would be so awesome to be alpha!

[Njack]

(It must be addictive!)

"Yay!" Banana was glad he was not a moose brain.

I wonder if there's any wolfnip in here? Banana sniffed around some more. What is wolfnip, anyway? Maybe when I grow up, I should try some! Yeah!

Banana noticed Tatiana's eyes light up, and his tail wagged faster in response. "Ooooh! Yeah! Let's do it!" He grinned, the "" becoming even bigger. I don't know, there's probably not a big enough letter to express it. ":|_)"? Then he went back to the "", because too big of a grin hurted his mouth.

I wonder what alphas do? Banana watched Tatiana for further operating instructions.

As the "" grew, Tatiana thought she spied an underscore-like object stuck in Banana's maw. She blinked, and the image disappeared beneath the "". Huh, must've been seeing things! Ah, well...probably from the hyperosity of the situation! She shook herself lightly, then turned in the den towards Banana. "Okay, great! I'll be alpha of the...um...Tatianan Pack, and you could be alpha of the Bananan Pack!" She laughed softly at the names, though, privately, she was quite intrigued with this. Dude...that actually has a ring to it! "What do you think?" she twirled around the den, eyes starry with imaginations of their little game. What if this was my den, and I was alphess?
