Shouldn’t she feel content, even happy that she had escaped the clutches of the Blood Mist? She should, she knew she should, but she could not. BurnNote knew that she had gotten close to Regulus in more than one way, and now she felt some what of an attachment to him. No matter; she would soon enough forget about him. Wouldn’t she? The blur of red fur seen making a run for home--Yes, home at last-- was frantically moving to escape the pursuing Blood Mist. She hadn’t stopped, just like Regulus had told her to do. Her heart was beating erratically in her chest, threatening to come bursting out at any moment; yet should she stop she would be forever forgotten in the sea of would-be’s. Thorns ripped at her columns, her blood running out of the paper cut size slits in her body. Her head was spinning, and what’s more, dots were racing across her visage. Why was it when ever she was moving, or fighting for her life her vision began to go out? Don’t look back…Don’t stop…You need to get home… She would tell herself, feeling the wind tug against her canvas. Her broken leg wasn’t slowly her down too much, but it was painfully unbearable as she limped across the borders of the Destinians, and limped slowly into the center of the camp. She ignored the staring gazes of wolves who’s mouths dropped slightly agape, and was determined to find either Carolina, or Firefight. They thought you were dead…do you see the way they stare at you? The thought made her jump for it was not normally something she would think. It didn’t matter though. Her only thoughts were on Fireflight, and the safety of her pups. Yet, her mind began to wander away, and she was once again thinking of Regulus. Oh stop it! He’s the reason you were trapped for nearly two months, rotting away without medical care! He only let you go because he knew he would get you again…he knew… She shook her head, and turned her azure eyes to the center of the camp. She wearily limped to the center, and sat down slowly, as if she were afraid that her bones were break. It was true, she felt brittle. Fragile, and yet, she called: ”I am back…”[/color]

It was a hot day. No, not moist. Not sticky. Just a haze of heat resting in a suspended layer over their earthly heads. Not unpleasant—maybe even delightfully warm to some—but all the same as if a gust of air from a crackling fireplace had twirled against your feet. It was nice until the fire came too close. And that’s what I’m afraid of… A noise snapped his attentions back to reality, Euphrates’ vision slowly fading into focus. Whatever had previously marked his thoughts now regressed into a realm of his subconscious, undecipherable amidst the rest of his suppressed wonderings. What? …whose there? He shook himself, swallowing the yawn that attempted to spill from his tongue. He had fallen asleep again, once more snug within the walls of his mate’s abode. And yet, he was alone. Not spiritually, no, but Fireflight tended to the pups in the nursery. She’s a wonderful mother. Dreamlike reveries, then, were once again broken by a more intelligible interruption. ”I am back…” Slowly, Euphrates slipped from the den, golden eyes widening at the surprising sight. It was never in his nature to converse much with other wolves—aside from Fireflight, his old neophyte, and the former Sumer, there was never much reason for it—but there were exceptions to every rule. “…Burn Note? How did you…?” Then the scent hit him, and he froze, nearly collapsing on the spot. …Assyria…?

Just an hour earlier, she'd been immersed in a morning hunt. Hunting was her ritual now -- it was the only thing that stopped her from going completely out of her wits. Between BurnNote's disappearence, the unsettled scores of the battle, and her ongoing grief for the mate she feared would never return, it was the only thing that kept her sane, the only thing that still seemed natural in a world full of unnatural wrongs. She carried a rabbit in her jaws as she padded back into camp. Carolina froze very suddenly, eyes wide as they locked on the familiar, long-lost form of a dear friend. The rabbit fell from her jaws, agape in disbelief, and hit the ground uselessly. "B-BurnNote, is it really you?" The words were whispery; for a moment, it looked as if the she-wolf would faint.

BurnNote suddenly forget all about Regulus and the Blood Mist camp. She looked at Euphrates, and sighed gently. Apparently, she smelled like blood mist, and looked like hell as well. With a sigh, she shrugged, and said "I guess I managed to sweet talk a brute into letting me go...There are more depressing matters on our hands right now though."[/i] She muttered, and turned her head to see Carolina standing there. Her friend...A smile lit up her features, and she nodded, and said "In the flesh." A hint of humor was heard in her tone, but the graveness in her eyes were still filled to the rim.

For the moment, Burn's grave words were forgotten and Carolina was beaming at her. "So much for a rescue party," she laughed. "We figured we'd have to wait at least another month before striking back and springing you out -- Fireflight just had her pups." She swished her tail towards the nursery. She hadn't seemed to hear BurnNote when she talked of grave matters; Burn was back, there were newborns in the pack, the pack would recover and strike back at Blood Mist. There were horrors, of course, but they all seemed awfully pitiful for the time being. "Somebody sprang you out?" Carolina tilted her head thoughtfully. "Well, even if what they said is true, and they do have eyes in the packs, I suppose there must be traitors in their own midsts, too."

BurnNote seemed to lose all color on her face, and features. "The pups..." She knew she should be happy right now, erratic even, but she wasn't. She just felt like she was the bearer of bad news time and time again. She sucked in a sharp breath, and caste her gaze away from her friend. BurnNote was staring at the sod, and carefully choice her words. She spoke in a whisper; making sure it would be even hard for Carolina to hear it. "Fireflight, Euphrates, and the pups are in danger..." She muttered gently, a sigh ripping through her. She had said it. But, how would they take it?

Carolina's mouth was once again agape and her eyes grew abruptly distressed. How could this be? And what exactly had happened in the Blood Mist camp to allow BurnNote to talk a Blood Mist into just letting her go, regardless of what it could mean for him? What wolf in Blood Mist would do such a thing? But of course, the answer could be as Carolina had already stated: Blood Mist not only had eyes in the packs, but there were pack loyalists within Blood Mist as well. "You need to talk to Fireflight about all of this before you tell us anything more," she whispered, glancing nervously towards Euphrates. Had he the horrors BurnNote had spoken of, or had she been able to conceal it from him? "Not in front of the pups, though. We'll have to have a meeting in her den...I'll go and get her. I can watch the pups while you talk."

BurnNote nodded wearily, and looked down at the ground. She was seeing spots again, but she didn't care. She cared more about the pups and alpha than anything else in the world. She would go ahead and talk to Fireflight about this. The throbbing in her leg was getting to be more and longer, but she pushed that to the back of her mind. The only thing that matters now is Fireflight, and the pups. She told herself, yet her thoughts pulled away from the matters at hand, and drifted off to Regulus. Had he gotten away? Did he get the healer too? What would happen to him if he was found to be a traitor? The thoughts chased each other around like a confused dog would chase it's tail until it became too exaughsting to even think about it. She shook her head, and looked to Carolina. "Okay. Hurry! Tell her it's urgent."[/i]

…Assyria… "You betrayed your own family! You left us there to die! You took him and you left. You left me to die. And you call us evil!" Unrecognizable whispers stirred him from his memories, but the sharp sting of their presence remained in the larger portion of his mind. Why did the two speak so urgently, so secretively? His head swerved between the duo, his troubled expression masked with a guise of curiosity. Concern aside, Fireflight would want to see Burn Note and hear what she had to tell—and, as his ears angled to catch the last snippets of conversation, the returning captive had the same idea. “…the pups…? he repeated softly, seizing the words out of context, but troubled by their tone. What? What happened? He watched as Carolina was sent to fetch his mate before focusing his gaze on Burn Note. “I heard something about…” Erg, it can wait. “…erm, do you need to see a Healer? You don’t look very well, if you don’t mind me saying.”

Anxiously, Carolina glanced towards Euphrates, but when she saw his expression, she briskly looked away. "Euphrates, you and Fireflight can talk to BurnNote. I'll watch the pups for you," she murmured quickly. Without another word, she slipped away into the nursery. The sight of Fireflight, curled lovingly around snoozing little bodies made her heart quake. It brought back all the long-ago memories of when Carolina had been the resident mother and she had rested here with her children, basking in the warmth of love. It truly pained her to have to tear Fireflight away from her pups. She'll be back soon though....and she needs to hear this. "Carolina?" While she'd been deliberating in her head, Fireflight had become aware of her prescence. She looked up at her now, drowsy-eyed but concerned. "Fireflight...BurnNote's escaped from Blood Mist and returned to us. She needs to see you as soon as you can come." For a moment, the alpha just stared at her as realization seeped in. Then, slowly, gradually, she eased herself away from the little bodies that slept nearby and tiptoed towards the mouth of the den. "Watch them," she breathed to Carolina as she passed.
Dumbfounded wasn't the right word. Surprised, sure, but Fireflight's mind was not shocked into silence. She was reeling in thought, mind moving a mile of minute, though she'd barely said a word to Carolina and she scarcely said anything now, as she surveyed BurnNote for the first time with her own eyes. She glanced between Euprhates, and Burn, and the barked softly, "We should talk in my den, unless you wish to see a healer first? You must be exhausted and starving." Her tail flicked towards a somewhat picked-over moose carcass, where the tender meat of a leg still remained for the taking.

BurnNote shook her head, and said "No thank-you, Fireflight. What I have to say is of importance. During my stay in the Blood Mist camp I have figured out quite a few things that might come of great service later on."[/i] She closed her eyes for a bit, remembering her newly made friend that was dying, or close to it, and getting ready to birth too. "Annelise was there. She was with child, and we talked for a while. She gave me important information about The Blood Mist. They are very unorginized, and lack a good leader-ship. Mass confusion is something that happens regularly there...There are a few that try to control what happens, but all I really know is that there are some Blood Mist that are not loyal. That's how I escaped...some are willing to listen, but most are too afraid of death to try and do anything."[/i] Her stomach tossed and turned with sickness as she thought about what could have happened. What happened to the healer? What happened to Regulus? Surely they were caught by now. She shook the thought from her mind, and begin to think about what she had been sayuing again. "I am related to one of the blood mist themselves...Hellfire. He's..my brother."[/i] She said quickly, and changed subjects quickly. "But none of this concerns me the most. I found out some...disturbing news that you and your pups are in grave danger. There is a fae that wishes to kill you guys, and take the pups for their own...The source I got it from said that if it was true that you had truly given birth to pups; this dispute has taken a turn for the worse: A hell-raising, blood curling war is on the way."[/i] She suddenly faltered in her words, and looked down for a few moments, tears rising in her optics. Why did I have to come with this news? She thought, and looked up at them once again.

"I...Annelise? The Siverian healer? What....?" Now she was dumbfounded. She opened her mouth and closed it again as the horrors washed over her. Somewhere, in the back of her mind, the dark shadows of reality had been lurking around her temporary place of warmth and love. Now, they threatened to tear all she loved away forever. She closed her eyes and for a moment, just focused on keeping her breathing steady. When she at last opened them, she turned miserably to Euphrates. "It's Babylonia, isn't it? But she's....wounded....." She turned back to Burn, the pain brimming in her eyes. "BurnNote, I need to know who helped you. Perhaps they will help us now." This is too much....to much, too fast, all at once...

She opened her mouth to answer, but looked away. Was it safe? Perhaps he was in grave danger now...maybe they could save him. But what if he wasn't...what if he didn't do what he had been going to do? What if he was safe? What if he wasn't? With a shuddering breath, she closed her eyes, feeling as if she were the reason Fireflight's world was being tossed into an oblivion that only fate could save her now. With a sigh, she said "It was Regulus. He helped me escape. Though he was also the one that had captured me..."[/i] She muttered softly.

(I'm gonna wait for Wolfie to post after this cause I can't really post much more when Euphrates hasn't reacted yet ^^ )
Her eyes were glazed, as if, already, she was staring down death. And when she spoke, the strength and fire in her voice was drained to brittle bones and ashes. She heard the name, and took it with a small nod. "He might've helped us once, BurnNote, but we'll have to keep our eyes out for him. You say he is the one who captured you in the first place; then he is unpredictable and could change sides on a whim. Not only this, but Regulus is one of the elder Blood Mists. Blood Mist, the elder portion especially, likes payment for their labors. There may be potential for bribery."

And so the meteor hit, with its full, unyielding impact. This new information—this new reality. He stumbled into its crumbling void, without even glimpses of Fireflight or his children to cling onto. That gradual pressure building against his chest, always present but possible to ignore, was suddenly suffocating. He hardened, statuesque with eyes to the ground even as Fireflight uttered his identity. Maybe it would have been better if I’d never left Blood Mist… He remained silent during the following exchange. It was odd, hearing these names again. Regulus? Funny, how he used to look up to him. He was a model of Blood Mist behavior—one of the names he sought to replicate as a child, alongside Darkdeath, Shiver, his own parents… even Verlust. And to think, Regulus would seek new allegiance? A devoted traditionalist like him? He grimaced in a silent irony. Are we all traitors, then? “…Babylonia…? No…” he murmured softly, hardly aware of his speech. He managed to drag his gaze toward Fireflight, and strengthened his voice. “…well, maybe. But it’s Assyria, more like. Not as wounded, among other things.” Or perhaps far more wounded… His ears swiveled toward Burn. “Now then, I haven’t known Regulus to be so forgiving to pack wolves, but times have changed. From what you’ve seen, does he have any reason to defect? Why did he let you go?” His ears lowered a fraction. “…do you know if he’s still alive?” Or, rather, intact?
