The large, muscular brute padded through the dirt with a heavy heart. His eyes dropped from the exhaustion of sleepless nights. His shoulder slouched slightly, the result of carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. His long, ragged, patched fur no longer held the luster is once had. It no longer blew around with carefree breezes. As the lonesome wolf sat in the shade of a tall, snow-dusted pine, it felt as if he was decaying into the earth and dying like leaves as they fall from trees. However, he knew that he was alive. He could still feel some pain, so that meant he had to be alive. He'd felt this pain for too long....it was time he'd healed. But how? He knew of no herb to heal a broken heart. He only knew of time, which had actually done him much good. He'd gotten used to Silenthowl leaving. He'd gotten used to her not caring....leaving him behind. And so he'd grown out of their romance. It seemed to have lasted forever when it was still a burning flame, but now, as the last of the embers cooled to ice, he felt as if it had never been there at all. He knew then he didn't love Silenthowl anymore. He wished he did. He wished they were together right then and there. And yet.... he still did not truly loved her. If she appeared and told him that she'd never leave again, he'd give in. But she was not here, and she had left him. So now he would leave her, too. The brute stood, shoulders no longer slouched, and head held high. He tilted his head back to the heavens above and let out a long, ghostly howl that rang through the trees and cut through the Winter.

A small ghastly whimper, barely heard by its owner was made. The one who had held the cracky whimper sat in the shadows. No, that lurking waiting for its prey. Just waiting for life to rush through. The wolf just sit in the shadows tuning out the world. For some weird reason, after many years of tuning out the world.. she heard the one howl that made her alert. She perked her ears.
If anyone had looked into the shadows deep enough they would see a small ragged body. It would almost appear a corpse was rotting away.
(your turn XD)

Riley pricked his black, white, and brown dapples auds. Pacing forward gingerly, he scented a fae among the shafts of shadow. He stepped forward a few more steps untill he was inches away from her. She seemed weak, perhaps even sickly, but she smelled of the Siverians. He realized that she was his packmate. Dashina, and relaxed a bit. "Hey...you okay?" He woofed, voice soft and light as velvet. Her gave her flank and comforting lick, not really realizing what he was doing.

Dashina's eyes shone dully as she looked at him. Yes, she looked sickly and weak. She didn't care. She had cleaned her fur probbaly weeks ago. She probably looked like a rat with fleas. She didn't care. Her red fur looked tangled and rugged... she didn't care. What she did care about was the sudden voice she had heard. After many years of wolves going past her not really knowing they had her in the pack.. she first didn't know he was talking to her. She glanced around slowly to spot an expected other wolf.. she saw none. Though he had licked her flank. she still did not believe someone knew she was alive.
She had not used her voice in a long.. long time. Maybe years. So when she spoke it was raspy and rusty.
"Uh.. yes.." her raspy voice replied awkwardly. She didn't know what else to say.. she probably hadn't engaged into a conversation in years.

Riley glanced at her for a moment, saying nothing. He settled down next to her and began to groom her fur, something it had seemed she'd forgotten how to do. He didn't say anything at all for a long while, then said softly, "Dashina, you seem so terribly sad! I know you're not alright. Something's wrong here. We can do this the easy way, or the hard way." Riley was a sucker for a wolf in need. He was always the shoulder to cry on.

(LOL he's a ladies man XD)
Dashina had made no attempt to escape as he groomed her fur. She just sat in a weird state. She sat in silence.. the silence unbroken.. until the other wolf broke it. O.O She was not the wolf to go and off with childish responses such as 'Then the hard way it is'. So she did not. She sighed and looked at the wolf with an odd look.
"Nothing terrible.. " she began. She didn't want to feel stupid. What should she tell him... 'Oh I'm just still sad that I don't knwo who my father is and I'm still mourning my mother's death after three years!' That to her made her sound rather dumb. So she had to think of something else.
"Just.. " she had a matter of seconds to think of something or he wouldn't believe her. "I.. couldn't. catch. the. buck.." she said awkwardly each word coming out abrubtly. It was a rather poor excuse.. he couldn't be that dumb.. or could he?

(haha but of course! XD )
Riley frowned. "We all have bad hunts. There's something way deeper here, Dashina. What's made you stay in the shadows for so long? And don't tell me it's because you don't like yourself. You're pretty, smart, and..." he trailed off, blushing slightly. He wondered what was making his packmate so sad. What could've made a fae so pretty stay away for so long?

Dang it.. I paused to long! she thought angrily. XD
Her glittering eyes fought to change to a happy expression... that failed and she just watched silently. Her eyes sad and solumn. Her eye's expression neever changed as she silently looked away. She was about to spill everything but decided only to say a small amount.
"The pain of having someone close to you.. ripped away by mother nature... is one thing" she began in her raspy voice.
"The most painful.. is when it is not mother nature that rips them away.. but themselves." she rasped thinking of her father.

Riley nodded, understanding. He himself had been an orphan since six moons. "There will be a new chapter for you, Dashina. They'll always be with you, just not where you can see them. I'll bet you whoever it is you're thinking of is thinking of you right now," he told her.

She shook her head. She knew her parents were not. She knew something noyone else did. She knew her family's secret. She'd rather die than tell. She would probably be chased out.. outcasted.. for her family secret. She kept her eyes from revealing anything. She just looked at the other wolf.
"I'm sure they are," she lied.. rather badly I'd say.

Riley sighed, not sure what else to say. How could he help her? What could he do to make her genuinely smile tonight? After a long perioed of silence, he stood slowly. "Take a walk with me?" It wasn't a command, but a hopeful question. She needed to see the light to heal. The light was definitly not here among the shadows. She needed to get out and really see the world. Then maybe, just maybe she would smile for him. And maybe, jusy maybe she would mean it.

Her solumn eyes searched his as if looking for an emotion of pity. She shook her head.. not saying no.. but clearing her thoughts. She stood and looked at him. She gave a nod.. just a nod. She knew that it wouldn't do much for her as she waited fro him to lead. She stood there her fragile LOOKING body kind of slumped. She looked sickly and slim... though that was not true.

He brushed his fur lightly against hers in comfort. He wanted her to know that he did not pity her. No, not at all. He understood her. He'd been in so many dark places over the years. From losing his parents, to being an outcast, to losing Feather, to losing Silenthowl. He was done losing everything he held dear. Now, he would win. And he didn't realize it quite yet, but in that very moment, he became determined to win over Dashina. He led her out into the fading sunlight. It made the snow sparkle slightly. He glanced back to make sure she was still following, then broke into a run. "Come on!" He called to her, tail wagging ever so slightly.

She followed him into the sunlight. Her walk did not seem to match her sickly looks. No. It was more graceful, more intelligent. She watched with a jolt as he ran. Her graceful walk turned into an elegant run and she kept one step behind him. Her eyes the same solumn sadness.

"Catch me if you can!" He sped up even more, kicking up white powder as he surged across the snowy plains. He circled her, laughing as he did so. "Come on, Dashina! I know for a fact you could easily make moose meat of me now!"
