“…peachy.” He gazed up through the ripples, her figure skewed by the wavering texture of the water’s surface. Yet, despite the blurring, he was able to make out a smile, to which he responded with one of his own. How exquisitely charming, wouldn’t you say? As the pressure on his stomach became more permanent, an ear slipped onto his chest. Heartbeat progressed as normal, although his grin widened. “You sure? I’m feeling faint.” Content to stare up at her for a while yet, he remained quiet until he impulsively added, “Well, it could be worse; you could be sitting on my face. In any case, how ‘bout a trade? My freedom in exchange for whatever you’d like… I’d even catch you a fish, if you’d like.” Because I am quite obviously worth as much as a fish.

She arched an eyebrow, and her bottom lifted. She backed away from him slowly, and then sat down in the water, tilting her head to the side. He offered to get me a fish...Wow. She thought, and then glanced at him again. A puzzled look flashed across her face for a moment. Who am I, really? She thought, before looked to him once again. She grinned, moving toward him, and then nudged the nape of his neck up. "Are you going to get up?" She muttered gently. She even dipped her tail in the water, and splashed it against the bit of maw that was showing. She was now wet from the eyes down her maw. She grinned gently, dipping her head again and nudging. "C'mon!" She urged.

To his amazement (or, rather, exaggerated amazement), Joker released Icarus from his bindings. Sighing slowly, he waited for some other assault on his personal bubble—a somersault onto his chest, maybe—but instead heard a voice urging him to stand. Plus, an accompanying nudge. Gradually, Icarus brought himself up to a seated position, drenched to the bone. He shook himself furiously, a heavy spray of water showering in all directions. “No catch? Not even a fish?” He grinned. “The offer still stands, my master.”

She stood there, now soaked to the bone. She sighed gently, and spit some water out of her mouth. She slowly opened her eyes, and then shook her head. "I don't think so..." She smirked gently, and raised a paw to her maw to lick it clean. "Icarus...You got me soaking wet!" She pretended to sulk as she moved toward the bank, and shook herself, her tail waving wildly through the air. She shot him a grin over her shoulder, before attempting to dry herself off all by herself...again. Suddenly though, a thin mist began to puddle around her columns. "Awh, shit." She growled. The mist.

“Aw, I apologize, Miss Joker. Can’t help myself; you make such a wonderful towel!” Icarus chuckled, tilting his head to smooth down his shoulder hairs. After some grooming, he wandered away from the water’s edge, the tufts of hair along his hind legs labored with moisture. Shaking himself again, this time away from Joker, he shifted an ear. Frowning at the sound of growling, he returned to her side. Was it because I got her wet? “Hey, what’s wrong?”

She looked at him, figuring she would be forced to explain things to him sooner than she had hoped. She sucked in a deep breath, and then said "I'm not normal...I..I don't know how I got here. Every once in a blue moon this blasted mist comes back...and...I never know what's going to happen. I never know if I'll go insane like I normally do." She looked toward him, frustration and despair flooding into her eyes. "I almost killed myself one time because of it...it nearly drove me off suicide cliff...I was lucky someone stopped me, but unlucky because I ended up killing them..." She muttered, and then cursing again as the mist began to thicken. "All I know is that once it is thick and full, and up to my chest I turn into something else...A monster to do it's bidding. I..I could even end up killing you..." She growled, looking at him suddenly.

Icarus stared, unblinkingly, nodding to show that he was listening, but all the same not comprehending. Either she’s insane, she’s telling the truth, or she’s trying to turn me down easy. Probably the third, but eh… Mildly hurt at the thought, he blinked slowly, and titled his head. “Honestly, I’ve never heard anything like this. But hey, I can help you. I’m here, you can get through this.” She doesn’t smell rabid. And… I’m not that bad of a guy, am I? He glanced down, noticing the ominous fog creeping thicker around his ankles, and rising to his underside. “Can I do anything for you? Joker, c’mon, you wouldn’t kill a pacifist, would you?” He smiled lightly, but without humor. He was suddenly tense, unnerved by the shift in atmosphere.

She stared at him incredulously. "I'm not insane, if that's what your thinking." She growled slightly. So, even when I do open up and tell someone that I can't control what happens to me they still look at me like I'm crazy. Nice to know. Thanks Icarus. She thought, and then began to panic as she saw it thickening. "Are you sure you even believe, Icarus? It's not like I can produce the fog when ever I want to. And no. I don't think you could help me. 1.) Because you don't really think that the fog is what influence--" She cut off, holding her breath now. She was trying to detour the mist. If she breathed it in, she was a goner. That's why she generally lost it once it got to her chest. It worked, but she couldn't hold her breath for ever. She indicated he should step away from her, lest he get infected by breathing it in as well. Then, everything changed. Her blue eyes suddenly had a tint of red, and her fur grew that much more crazy. Scars from previous battles in this form lined her stomach, and sides. One ragged line all down her face. She gritted her teeth, glancing at him. She still had her state of mind...so far. "See...I wasn't lying..." Her voice came out darkly, with a sharp edge. Though, she couldn't stop it. Her pleading eyes were enough to tell him to what she was really feeling. Frightened.

“No, I don’t think you’re insane. And you don’t even want to know half the things…” He took a small step back, eyes widening a bit as she began to hunch over. “…I believe…” Almost immediately, he noticed a shift. Her eyes burned, her voice deepened. He fluttered his eyelids, not quite sure what to expect. Should I run? Should I hide? But what if she hurts herself? Or tries to kill me? Or what? He coughed awkwardly, taking a small step toward her again. He brushed against her flank, not quite sure what needed to be done. Correction: now I think you’re crazy. In fact, now I think I’m crazy. “Hey, Joker, listen—don’t give into it, okay? Whatever it is, it’s bad. You’ve gotta fight it, alright? Be a fighter.”

She grew rigid, her eyes perhaps the only thing soft about her now. She stood up straight, eyes closing for a moment. "I know it's...bad...but it's where I...came..from. Believe it..or not." All the spaces in between her words were where she was fighting it. Wishing that she could hold it back. She couldn't... She started to involuntarily take a few steps toward him...Not to return the brush, but intending to do something else. Her eyes locked on him as they flickered from soft, to a killers gaze. Her muscles bunched, and she crouched, getting ready to pounce before.... A soft shrill like whine entered the air around them, and she ripped herself back from him. She forced herself to back up until her hind legs hit the water again. She watched him for a moment, and another flicker of her eyes...this time, back to that insane look. Oh, please...Icarus...I can't control it. I'm not Insane. I'm not doing this...Oh please..." She pleaded in her mind that was now pushed all the way back. She began to slink toward him again, and then took off at him in a wild sprint. No! She screamed inwardly, and fought for control. Her body lifted off, and pinned him to the ground, a growl ripping through her. No! You can't...Joker! Get a hold of yourself! You should have never stayed this long..You knew this might have happened! Her other half payed no heed to her shrill callings. Another snarl ripped through the air, and she began to lower her mouth to rip at his throat. Almost there.... His lyrics rang in her audits. Hey Joker-Listen, don't give into it, Okay? What ever it is,its bad.You gotta fight it, alright? Be a fighter. A whimper was heard slightly in the snarl. Her whole body was shaking as she fought back, yet her crown continued to lower dangerously close to his throat. No! A flicker of the Joker he knew flashed through her eyes, but it was quickly gone again. Suddenly, she lunged for his throat and...
"No!" She whimpered, and slowly backed away from him, the mist disappearing suddenly. She continued to back away from him. "I-I'm sorry...So sorry...I...I shouldn't have stayed here...that long...I'm..I'm sorry...I'm not insane though...I'm not....You believe me..right?" She looked at him hopefully, her whole body quivering. "Don't you...."

It was an intense frenzy of emotions. Befuddlement escalated to a sort of premature horror at what this Yozoran Proeliator was becoming. All at once, the heat of her figure disappeared, retreating from his touch. And before he could speak soft promises of protection and urge her to return to him, she retraced her pawsteps. Only she was different somehow. At one point, he realized he had been pinned against the earth, although he did not recall how he had been tripped. Although he had the physical ability to throw her off, he continued to stare up at her, not wanting to touch her. She seemed conflicted and enraged in some sort of weird concoction of sensations—and she lunged. He gritted his fangs, preparing to give a retaliating blow, but there was no need. The pressure alleviated without his interference, and Icarus soon regained his balance. Taking a small step toward her, he shook his head slowly, somewhat shaken but not showing it. “Of course I believe you, Joker. That was good; you controlled yourself. That was very good…” He studied her carefully. “Do you need me to do something for you?”

She didn't move as he moved closer to her, but she watched him closely. She was shaking like a leaf, her teeth chattering against each other. It had taken almost everything out of her to control herself from kill him. She would have never lived with herself if she had killed him. "Are you okay, Icarus? Are you? I didn't hurt you did I?" Concern was weaved in with her lyrics, causing them to come out soft, and shaky. She closed her chasms, her audits perked forward. She finally shook her head, and said "I don't think you can do anything for me, Icarus. No one can...I'm a lost cause..." She gave a slight smile, and looked away again. She bit her lip, glancing toward him once more.

Inclining his muzzle, Icarus gazed at his companion, eyes brightening. Whatever overwhelmed her a minute ago certainly isn’t around anymore. “Give me some credit, Joker—I’m tougher to kill than I look.” He smiled reassuringly. “But no, you did just fine. I’m okay.” Relaxing his suspicions a bit, Icarus wandered to her side and brushed his snout against her shoulder. “And hey, take it from me. There are no lost causes, only forgotten ones. And I certainly won’t forget about you.”

"Then I am a forgotten cause. You won't forget me because I nearly tried to kill you, and I never said that you weren't hard to kill. You just haven't seen how bad I can get in that form." Her blue eyes sparked slightly, and she gave a shuddered sigh. "Besides, if it weren't for the mist I'd be ordinary, so there's nothing special about me really." She insisted, glancing at him for a moment. I don't think he'll by that... She pushed the thought from her mind, and shook her cranium once, audits perking for his lyrics in the air once more.

“With a name like ‘Joker’, I keep expecting you to catch onto my weird humor,” he chuckled, straightening his frame. He was standing directly in front of her now, inches away, and yet possessing the faithful certainty that she would not attempt to kill him. “’sides, you haven’t seen how bad I can get either. But ‘ordinary’?” Scoffing a little, Icarus circled around the fae, tail swishing peacefully between his legs. “‘Ordinary’ is such a dull term. Hardly suitable. I mean, I only just met your acquaintance, but you, at the very least, invited a stranger to share a meal instead of chasing him out. An act of trusting and kindness like that is worth noting, and hardly in the norm. You’re certainly kind, if not special, without that mist.”
