I Just Know There's No Escape Now Once It Sets It's Eyes On You But I Wont Run Have To Stare It In The Eyes Halo stopped in mid-step. His gaze was turned down toward his paws and he looked once more like an ivory statue. "Then" he barked, "You make a place for yourself, even if it's not exactly what you wanted." It was what Halo had done. He hadn't wanted anything to do with his sister's pups and yet, he was caring for one of them, searching for the others and keeping their foster mother safe. He had made a place for himself, even if it wasn't what he had wanted. It gave him a reason to keep himself going and not let himself simply curl up and die. The fact that Merci's pups relied on him for their safety gave him a reason to keep going. Stand My Ground I Won't Give In No More Denying I've Gotta Face It Won't Close My Eyes And Hide The Truth Inside If I Don't Make It, Someone Else Will Stand My Ground

Mosca inclined her head, thinking. "Then I suppose I should look a little harder." She lifted her gaze, eyes studying Halo. Again, a strange feeling went up her spine, just as it did when she had last met him beside the river. Ignore the emotions she told herself. Ignore them all.

You're sick of feeling numb You're not the only one I'll take you by the hand And I'll show you a world that you can understand Halo turned his head to look back at Mosca. A small smile curled on his snowy maw, this first smile he'd worn in moon. Mosca was a good wolf, just....lost. The topaz-eyed brujo felt a little lighter then he had since Merci's death though he wasn't sure why. Maybe it was because he'd helped Mosca or maybe he was just starting to move on but Halo didn't know. All he knew was it was odd and had a feeling it was connected to Mosca's reappearance. "Just don't follow my path Mosca, nothing lies at the end of it other then a broken wolf." This life is filled with hurt When happiness doesn't work Trust me and take my hand When the lights go out you will understand

Mosca narrowed her eyes, but not accusingly. Her gaze was more of playfullness then suspicion. "You are certainly an unusual wolf," she woofed. "Not many wolves admit their despair and decide to repair it." She had had enough experience with sorrow among wolves-- others and herself-- to justify her claims.

Every memory of looking out the back door I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor It's hard to say it, time to say it Goodbye, goodbye
"Who says I've repaired anything?" Halo asked, turning to look at Mosca. "I'm just cleaning up what Merci left behind." The brute looked at Mosca, straight in the eye. Whether others saw it or not, Halo did, Mosca was much like Merci. Though many things differed, Halo could pick out the fine things that made them so similar and it made him sad to think of it. "You of all wolves know this Mosca, happiness isn't something that's easily found." Halo had been challenged to find happiness since he and Merci had been born. Merci had found her happiness and then died. Halo was simply what was left behind. "Go to the lake near the cliff, you may find something interesting there, something you need to see." Halo knew it probably wasn't a good idea sending Mosca to that place but, she needed to know and it was probably best if she found out for herself rather then through the tales of others. So hard to stay Too hard to leave it If I could I relive those days I know the one thing that would never change

The corner's of her mouth twitched. "'Cleaning up'?" she repeated. After a moment, she decided not to pursue it. It sounds like he doesn't care about them... but who am I to judge? Instead, she asked, "What would be of interest to me?" She had a terrible feeling in her inquiry. Her whithers were already rising. Dear Lupus, what now? Then, without waiting for an answer, she jumped to her paws. She couldn't stand staying here, hanging on every word another wolf said. No, she would find out why he had spoken... why the air suddenly seemed heavy and the world seemed colder. Pace quickening, she bounded in the direction of the cliff.

Sound the bugle now - play it just for me As the seasons change - remember how I used to be Now I can't go on - I can't even start I've got nothing left - just an empty heart
Halo was about to answer when Mosca took off running but when she did, he to sprang toward the cliff. His powerful limbs carried him swiftly after the femmora though his muscle weight slowed him ever so slightly. He managed to keep her in sight as they ran toward the cliff where a rather nasty surprise awaited Mosca. Halo knew better then to just let her go alone. Leaving her to face that alone would be too cruel, for even a broken wolf like Halo it was cruel and unthinkable. Mosca would need someone to keep her sane, probably now more then ever. Halo was second-guessing his decision to tell her but decided it was for the best in the end, even if Mosca didnt think so in the beginning. I'm a soldier - wounded so I must give up the fight There's nothing more for me - lead me away... Or leave me lying here

Mosca ran forward, blind to the fact that Fell was dead. And then the odor hit her. Blood. And moments after followed and even worse scent... Fell. Fell and Blood. She ran faster. At last, she skidded to a halt at the base of the cliff, eyes fixed on a mound of river gravel in front of her. Slowly, she approached it, staring down. Halo had done well burying it, but it still carried the scent of death... and Fell. And her mind was whirling. She was standing over it, looking down. "...Fell...?"

This is what i brought you this you can keep, This is what i brought you may forget me.
Slowing his stride, Halo came upon Mosca as she uttered the fallen wolf's name. His heart hardened and dropped like a stone, his eyes smoldering with sympathy and sorrow for Mosca. "He found her" Halo murmured. "Merci. She came for him. I could still smell her scent when I pulled him out of the lake." Halo had left the body of Fell's killer in the lake to decay. He knew Merci would have wanted him to bring up the other body but he honestly didn't think Mosca would have apprciaited a killer being buried beside Fell. "Don't be sad for him Mosca. He was able to rest peacefully after such a broken life." Halo sat back on his hunches, looking away from Mosca as she stood beside the grave. If she wanted him to go, he would go but not far. I promised to depart just promise one thing, Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.

Slowly, Mosca lowered her head to the grave, resting her muzzle upon the cold stones. And then the tears came, first few, and then many. Tears fell to the earth, and she began to tremble. "My brother, my son, my love..." she whispered shakily. "...my friend... You were never a demon... You were a fallen angel, Fell. If only you remembered... oh, you deserve to remember..." She curled about the grave, closing her eyes tight. "Murderer to the evil, hero to the victems... you saved them all, Fell. Legion and I are proud... we are..." She paused, choking back more tears. "...at least you'll be with Merci, Fell. Don't worry anymore... let me worry. I'll finish the job to my last breath, Fell... don't worry..." And then she was still. Silent and still. Her best friend was gone, but she felt strangely accepting of it. You fought to the end, Fell... just as I've always expected you to... And, as her heart shattered inside, she looked up to the sky and managed to produce a mourning howl.

Halo turned his muzzle skyward as Mosca let out her own mournful howl and accompanied it with his own deeper cry. He wanted Mosca to know she wasn't alone, never alone. There was always some with her, whether she was aware of it or not. Halo finally let his own call die away and rose to his paws, slowly approaching Mosca. The brute laid down near her, looking to offer what little support he could though he knew nothing would replace Mosca's friends.

Mosca heard the additional sound, and slowly lowered her muzzle to look in Halo's direction. As her wolfsong faded to silence, she felt the agonizing sorrow of it all. But Halo's howl had soothed her in some strange way. She looked directly into Halo's eyes when he settled himself beside her, and she refused to look away. She just sat there, silent and inert, staring deep into his eyes, she found comfort there... and she wasn't crying anymore.

Halo held Mosca's gaze with his own and noticed that tears no longer seemed to fall. The brute didn't move, nor did he speak for he had no words to sooth Mosca. As Merci had once told him, there was no herb to heal a broken heart and the words to heal a broken heart were hard to find. Halo slowly lowered his head and rested his crown upon his paws, continuing to look up at Mosca with his haunted golden gaze. He was prepared to wait until Mosca either spoke to send him away or had said her last goodbyes to Fell. If she sent him away, again he would go but never far. Right now he knew Mosca needed to know someone was there for her and Halo knew going too far from her might bring back her former grief and that would only make things worse.

It took many moments before Mosca finally diverted her gaze. But, when she did, she leaned forward to touch her nose to his. It only took seconds to pull away. She closed her eyes, and stood up on numb paws. "Thank you for helping me." It wasn't dismissal, but something she had to say. She then began a slow trot torward the forest, head low. She didn't expect Halo to follow her. Why would anyone follow me?

Halo watched as the ebony femmora rose to her paws, his topaz eyes wondering to the sky overhead for a moment before flicking back to Mosca. She thanked him but Halo wondered if she knew there was no reason to thank him. It was her right to know that Fell had died. Fell had found happiness in the end, it seemed rather unfair that wolves like Halo and Mosca were left behind in the dust, sad and alone yet....together. Slowly, Halo rose to his paws and padded to the cliff, finding a narrow path up the side until he stood at the top, where Merci had stood waiting for Fell's spirit. Turning his muzzle skyward, Halo let out a deep sorrowful howl, pouring a broken heart and lost light into the howl. He pretended to be healing so Mosca would think he could help her but really, he was just as wounded as the night Merci had died.
