Mosca watched Halo go, but did not pursue. What could I do? She continued to drink. But, as she drank, something vile slid across her tongue. She jumped back instantly, coughing. Peering once more into the water, she saw a trickle of pink in the current. Blood in the water. "S**t," she cursed, glancing upriver. "Not again." The black femme raced into the trees, following the winding waterway, and eventually becoming invisible in the night.

Sound the bugle now - tell them I don't care There's not a road I know - that leads to anywhere Without a light feat that I will - stumble in the dark Lay right down - decide not to go on
Halo's paws beat softly on the snow-coated ground as he ran, powerful muscles carrying him through the darkness of night as moonlight splattered his coat. He smelled them coming, hunters but not wolves. No beast, or at least, no common beast. So they hunted here too? Just like in the old lands. Halo had sensed them near Star and the pups and had decided to draw them away from his family. Though he seldom said it, that was what they were, even Mosca. Family. Loved by an unloving brute. He heard the baying of a hound, a weak sound compared to the unearthly tone of a wolf howl and easily destinguished by wolves that had been hunted before.
There they were. He heard them running behind him, three hounds at the most followed by what seemed like a human and his son. Halo snarled low in his chest and kept running. He leapt over a fallen log and kept running without breaking stride. If he could just draw them far enough away then loose them, everything would be fine. It seemed divine wolves had other plans for him however.
A loud bang shattered the silence of the night. Halo's limbs lockedand his maw opened to howl in pain but nothing came out. The force of the close-range shot sent him tumbling forward, nose over tail, blood smearing the snow where he fell. He landed on his side, head at the right angle to see the moon through the twisted bare branches of overhead trees.
Trails of scarlet carved their way through his ivory fur, staining the colorless snow below the brute their fire-toned hue. Halo had always imagined being shot as being painful, burning or worse but not now...he felt numb. The sounds of the hounds circling him warily brought no fear nor aggression from him for he knew his limbs would not move. The crunch of approaching human boots didn't make him flinch or wish to flee. He simply stared at the moon through dulled honey orbs, focusing on the cold white light that shone through the vail that couldn't decide if it was blue or black. Then from on hight - somewhere in the distance There's a voice that calls - remember who your are If you lose yourself - your courage soon will follow

At last, Mosca found what she had suspected. Laying on the opposite side of the river was a scrawny wolf, his leg caught in a trap and his eyes rolled back in his head. Blood leaking into the river, Mosca bounded across a fallen log to reach the other side. Once there, she carefully nudged the injured wolf. "Hello? Can you hear me?"
No response.
Mosca lowered her head and sighed. "Not again..." And then a familiar sound echoed in her ears, like a shrieking foghorn in the midst of the silent forest. She whirled around, ears erect. Gunfire. Halo was headed that way... She pelted in that direction with all the speed she could muster. No... not again. You damn humans have done this to Legion, Fell, and hundreds of others. You've done it to me. You won't do it to Halo.
She saw the bony frames of hounds up ahead... and what was that in the middle? Halo. Her heart pounded wildly, and a snarl curled on her maw. She threw herself into a mad frenzy, racing forward to lunge into the human, grasping his leg with her fangs and pulling his weight from under him. The human fell. The hounds were on top of her, biting at her neck and tearing at her limbs.

Sound the bugle now - play it just for me As the seasons change - remember how I used to be Now I can't go on - I can't even start I've got nothing left - just an empty heart The earth vibrated under Halo as a battle raged somewhere, either near or far he couldn't tell. It all seemed the same. His eyes remained on the moon, half open and half closed. From between his shoulders the blood continued blooming, staining his coat scarlet. A scent came through the fog. Mosca. Moving seemed impossible but he was doing it. As he moved the pain came. It burned through every nerve, setting his bones on fire and tearing his muscles apart but he moved. His rising was slow, his head down, breathing ragged. A hound leapt at him and shoved him down, fangs going for his neck but Halo beat him to it, sinking his fangs into the dog's neck. Fangs nicked his neck but Halo jerked the hound away, tossing it away. This time as he tried to rise, he fell once more and could move no more. He laid limp at the edge of the clearing, a speckled trail of blood leading to his fallen form. A trail of blood wound down to the black heart on his chest, trailing through it as if trying to break the black sign in half. I'm a soldier - wounded so I must give up the fight There's nothing more for me - lead me away... Or leave me lying here

(jeez, and I'm listening to the Sweeney Todd "final sequence"... not a good idea on my behalf ) "Halo..." Mosca whispered to herself, pulling away from the human and twisting to deliver a bite to the neck of one of the hounds. But the other dog was ripping at her leg. She wouldn't be able to run, nor walk.... Is this my final stand, then? She dug her fangs deep into the hound's spine. It yelped, then was silent. Seconds later, pressure on her leg was gone. The dog had stepped away. Why--?The click of the gun beside her, and the burn of the bullet biting into her chest. She staggered back, blood dripping from a wound dangerously close to her heart. Slowly, she raised her gaze to look from the remaining hound to the human to Halo and back. Gradually, her whole body began to tremble, and she collapsed onto the ground. Blood dripped from her maw and stained the snow crimson. "Halo," she woofed, looking torwards him. "I love you..." As soon as she spoke, she lunged forward, again, into the human, mauling the hunter with repeatative blows with her paws and claws. Meanwhile, she was growing tired. Every ounce of energy was being wasted to kill this human. Every precious ounce of life. The hound was biting her leg again. She didn't care. At last, she realized that she had killed the man. He was lifeless beneath her exhausted, bloody paws. Whirling around again, she held the hound in death lock by the neck, but did not have the strength to press down hard enough to fracture the spine. The hound snarled and continued to tear at her, weakened byt still alive.

Then from on hight - somewhere in the distance There's a voice that calls - remember who your are If you lose yourself - your courage soon will follow Halo say the fight but it was blurry. His eyes were dark and glazed. Halo closed his eyes for a long moment and pushed himself up to a half sitting position. A long howl rang from his chest, shattering the sounds of battle. The hound attacking Mosca released her as if it had just realized Halo was still alive. Halo's howl died and he met the eyes of the hound. It charnged. Halo fell backward onto the forest floor as fangs sank into his throat. Halo bit down on the hound. A crack rang eerily through the clearing. The hound went limp but Halo didn't move. His limbs trembled slightly and his ivory bulk shuddered slightly, catching the moonlight he laid in. It was over. It was done. The hounds were dead. The hunter slain. But what of the wolves? So be strong tonight - remember who you are Ya you're a soldier now - fighting in abattle To be free once more -Ya that's worth fighting for

(god, the final sequence makes me really want to kill someone-- erm, in roleplay, of course ) Mosca dragged her form in Halo's direction. Something wasn't right. She didn't feel... full enough. She felt lightheaded. No... she felt light. The blood poured profusely from the hole in her torso, and she coughed horribly, spurts of blood spraying from her jaws. "Halo..." She collapsed at his side, using the remainder of her energy to lick the wound on his neck. "Halo........."

"Shhh Mosca" Halo murmured, his voice barely a whisper. "Shh..." Halo bowed his head slightly and licked her muzzle lightly. His eyes were dark, his white fur lost amidst the red of his own blood. "Rest Mosca." His words were soft, tender and loving. Halo's breathing was ragged and shallow. Halo's head rested against the snow and his eyes slid closed. The glow of the moonlight falling upon the bloodied brute gave him an eerie look, like a fallen angel thrown from heaven into the depths of hell. Unless you looked hard enough you would think he was dead but not just yet....

Mosca's breathing hitched for a moment. "Are we dead?" she whispered, her eyes sliding closed. Her wound was numb now. No feeling. Nothing.

I open my eyes I try to see but I’m blinded by the white light I can’t remember how I can’t remember why I’m lying here tonight
Her words fell upon deaf ears. Halo's ivory bulk relaxed suddenly, a shudder passing through him. A soft sigh escaped the brute's maw as his final breath flitted away. Halo, brother of Merci, protector of Kasa, Kuroshin, Shiro and Star had fallen. No more would the hardships of a lone life haunt the brute, his heart no longer break and heart no longer feel the hate and pain of struggling to survive. No more, no more. It was done. How could this happen to me I made my mistakes I’ve got no where to run The night goes on As I’m fading away I’m sick of this life I just wanna scream How could this happen to me

"Halo...?" Mosca couldn't feel him anymore. And she buried her bloody head into his bloodied chest, right where his black heart was emblazoned on his fur. Bullet in her torso, she closed her eyes. "I forgive you, my brother," she whispered, slipping away. Voice fading. Body becoming an inert statue that symbolized the revenge of wolves forever victemized. A statue at last finding peace among herself, and love in her heart... She had lived a twisted mess. She had died a happy wolf.
